VOTE: Time Warp HOF Ballot 1961

1936 Initial Ballot Results, 1937 Results, 1938 Results, 1939 Results, 1940 Results,
1941 Results, 1942 Results, 1943 Results, 1944 Results, 1945 Results,
1946 Results, 1947 Results, 1948 Results, 1949 Results, 1950 Results,
1951 Results, 1952 Results, 1953 Results, 1954 Results, 1955 Results,
1956 Results, 1957 Results, 1958 Results, 1959 Results, 1960 Results (lost in board crash)

No players were elected to the RL HOF by the BBWAA in 1961, but Max Carey and Billy Hamilton were elected by the VC.

All players who received at least 5% of votes on the last ballot were retained for this ballot. I also added players who became eligible for the ballot in 1961 (retired after 1955 season).

All players not receiving 5% of votes on this ballot will be removed. Also, all players who have been retired for 20 years fall off this ballot if not elected.

Vote for as many or as few as you want. Max votes are 10.

HOF Standard: 50 is considered an average HOF'er. 100 is max.

PLEASE NOTE:
Players who lost service time to the war are denoted with: WWII

Note: OPS+ and ERA+ are listed for all players now. 100 is considered league average. The higher the # the better the player. This lets you see how they did in relation to the players of their generation while also letting you compare their dominance of the league to players from different eras.

Here's all HOF'er OPS+ for reference:

Yeah... Peaches and Rauch suck. One of the best catchers of all-time and one of the best OF's of the Live Era.

I'm surprised by the lack of votes for Rauch. Just 2 of the 5 ballots so far. With Dunk going in so easily and Sunny finally going in last year, I would have thought we were in a period of showing love to the great catchers.

In the list of current HOFers and their OPS+, I don't see Fat Gus Kahle or Jonathan Wright. Didn't these guys get elected?

"Fat Gus" Kahle was elected in 1949 at 87.5%, the same as Kaiser Kahle.
Jonathan Wright was elected in 1958 at 85%, the same as Bud Breckenridge.

Ok, I'm satisfied now.

I'd also like to make a little speech in support of Dewey Mickelsen's candidacy for the Hall of Fame. If you haven't thought about voting for him before, please do:

Career Numbers (with All-Time rank at time of retirement, if in the top 25)

Average: .294
On-Base Percentage: .375
Slugging Percentage: .481
OPS: .857
Hits: 2560
Doubles: 329
Triples: 149
Home Runs: 335 (5th)
RBI: 1322
Runs: 1431
Walks: 1138
Strikeouts: 589

Hit for the cycle twice, and has an impressive number of triples for a guy who only stole 17 bases in his career. 3 Gold Gloves in left field. 3 hitting streaks of 20 or more games. 9 straight (9 total) All-Star appearances from 1937-1945 and somehow missed the team in 1946 and 1947 despite posting OPS totals of .934 and .951 those two seasons. Won the World Series with Chicago in 1938, the Cubs' third straight World Series appearance, and hit .350/.458/.500 in the '38 Series. Despite going .200/.231/.240 in the '36 Series, Mickelsen ended as a .286/.367/.357 career postseason hitter.

If he doesn't have enough hits for you, consider this: he didn't get a full-time job until he was 23, spending 5 years on the Cubs bench, and he has over 1100 walks. He was a tremendous disciplined hitter, striking out about half the number of times that he walked. This wasn't your big hacker power hitter. Mickelsen did everything except steal bases well: he hit for average, he hit for power, he hit doubles and triples (8 times in the top 10), he was in double figures for homers in every season he got at least 200 AB and hit over 20 homers a season 8 times, a testament to his longevity and durability. If that doesn't sound like many home runs, consider that he finished in the top 10 of the league for 15 straight years (1933-1947).

It's long past time to put Dewey in the Hall.
