half the problem ootp has is it takes 5 hours to setup and play. ootp should have multiple setup configs based upon difficulty or realism or whatever. We should be able to click start and play. Not need hours to set up the game to get it to run better.

Buy FM, install FM, Click start and play. No setup. No billion configurations to play with.

And there are some saying oh its no big deal japan and indys are gone its "only a couple of clicks". It is in no way a couple of clicks. More like a hundred. Then testing. WTH is up with that?

Give us a japan template in the wizard that isnt too much to ask for. I dont give a rats a** about ootp 24. no way in hell i am buying it. But I own 23 and I want to play it how i originally bought it.
I'll buy two so they don't miss out on your $35. Bye.

And anyone who would say that OOTP has terrible customer service because they are looking out for their bottom line just has an axe to grind for some reason and should never be taken seriously (see the many posts they have made, all saying the same thing in just different words.).

Anyway, Happy New Year everyone!

I may have mentioned this in another thread, but the Japan Football Association is so protective of its brand that for a time the internal research database couldn't have any J-league players in it and all of the players in the Japanese national team pool had to be fake. This was because they have had their own licensed games in the past. And this was the case even though FM has a license with the international FIFPRO players union, which should theoretically mean that the players in the J-League should be able to be in the game even if the clubs they're on have to be fake.

They also had EA remove the J-League from FIFA 23, if memory serves me correctly.

Either you have never played FM and are ignorant on how it works or you are just throwing out BS and hoping you won't be called on it.

To start a game, you click on which playable countries you want in the game, and then possibly which leagues below the top tier you want to include. You can click on entire continents, or individual countries, or a set of countries, or a world game template that someone else has set up, or on just one country. There are also FM Editor files people make with custom league setups for playable and "non-playable" nations that you can include to further customize your in-game experience.

Each different country has a slightly different start date in the game universe, so if you pick a club to start managing immediately instead of starting unemployed that has an impact on the exact date you start in the summer or winter. If you start unemployed, then you might have to consider which nation you pick as the one you "start" in because of its in-game start date.

Depending on the specs of your computer or laptop, you may have to go into the settings menu and determine the size of your player and staff database (small/medium/large) in order to help the game run as efficiently as possible on your computer. From there, you can select individual countries and decide if you want some, most, or all of their players and staff that are in the master DB loaded into the game from the start for the sake of immersion and realism.

If you're playing for the first time, or want to play using a different personality, you have to create a biography that considers things like like highest level of football you played at "amateur/pro/FIFA international", and there are personality point sliders you can jigger around with to determine what type of manager people think you are. These things determine how you are initially received in the game universe.

When you start a game, it's recommended that you look at the Club Responsibilities menu to see what different aspects of off-field activity different members of the "back room" are responsible for (scouting, signings, etc), so if there are things that you do or don't want to do you can change them as you see fit.

Before you get a chance to play, there is typically an introductory press conference where you have to decide answers to various questions, and those answers can have a knock-on affect on how your initial interactions with the squad go.

There is a (typically recommended) initial squad overview with your coaching and scouting personnel team in which they talk about various aspects of your squad, and which areas you want to focus on when it comes to player recruitment. In there, you can tweak various staff & scouting settings.

And this is frequently all before you really move more than a day or two on the in-game calendar.

If you want to compare OOTP to FM, that's fine to do even without considering the size of the respective companies that produce them. At the very least, I ask that you just not flagrantly lie about it.
Jeez, I felt kind of foolish reading jimmy's post and wondering what I was doing wrong with FM. I mean, how could I miss that "one click" and start feature.

I feel better after reading your post and finding I'm not the only one that spends four plus hours(probably more?) just setting up my game. That doesn't include running down mods for real names, logos, kits, etc. etc.

There are a number of members of the research team who think that, more than anything else, the game has become too fiddly.

It sounds like Japan is still dealing with some issues in intellectual property law that the US has figured out. Under US law, the following are either protected (under copyright or trademark) or not protected:
  • data (e.g. batting averages) - not protected
  • player names - not protected
  • player images - protected
  • team names - sorta' protected
  • team logos and uniforms - protected
So, for instance, if I create a baseball game, I can include Aaron Judge and his stat line but I can't include a photo of him or a Yankees' logo. Those issues have now been settled under US law for some time now (I can recall as a kid playing a Sports Illustrated football game that didn't include any player or team names, so it would just say something like "Chicago has a dominating linebacker who is effective at the pass rush" and you had to guess that it was Dick Butkus).

If *** claims to have rights over everything related to Japanese baseball, including stuff like player names and data compilations, it's clearly claiming intellectual property rights that it couldn't enforce under American law, even if it has those rights under Japanese law. So perhaps the solution here is just to ban OOTP sales in Japan. But litigation is costly and uncertain, and if even one copy of OOTP ended up in Japan, then that would open the company up to all sorts of legal headaches. I wouldn't blame Com2uS if it said "we don't want to bother with the potential risk, let's just get rid of everything related to ***."

I don't want to open another can of worms (I think I will go make some copies now) but what about the Japan Islanders in the Empire Professional Baseball League?

I had to look that one up

My hunch is that trademark rights are handled at the league level, so it would depend on how the league's charter is worded. If it says that intellectual property rights are based on US law, then that's what would control. If, on the other hand, it said that those rights are based on the law of each team's location, then it's possible Japanese law would control. My guess is that it's likely the former rather than the latter, but I'd have to know more about how the league is set up.

This is by no means an educated opinion, rather just my guess. The individual teams should be bound by the league charter rather than by the laws of a player's home nation. The Islanders were invited to take part in the league as a fill in travel team. They shouldn't be able to do much individually. And american law does not stop OOTP from including player name and such, only team logos and player pictures.

Honest Question... why do so many of you fall for bestcop's bait nearly every single time? It's entry-level trolling and yet his success rate in getting serious responses here has to be in the 80-90% range.

All you ever do is B*T*H really loudly. I rarely ever read these forums any more, but when I do you are complaining.

Steam by default is setup to auto update and they sell on steam cause PT has popularity on steam. If you want to let em off the hook that's on you.

Me I want to hold ootpd accountable. Fine they had no choice. If you can make 2 patches removing everything they could have taken the minimum time required to give us replacement wizards.

But again fan boys will be fan boys. So defend away

I’m around 99% sure that it’s all based on standing. A Japanese league is going to seek remuneration in a Japanese court because that’s where the stricter laws exist and also because that’s where the best case can be made that *** or whoever is actually losing money. If for some reason they went to the US for this, not only would they have to show that OOTP was violating US law but (I believe) that they could document losing money in the US, which they couldn’t just base on OOTP sales in the US but would have to show how, for instance, games with the *** franchise were impacted by the presence of OOTP. Even with the latter they could probably prove something if OOTP was shipping with *** logos, etc., but in Japan itself they could make it economically infeasible to sell the product at all.

I mean TBF this is a guy about whom it’s not entirely clear if he a. actually owns OOTP 23 at all, and b. if he didn’t just start playing it 2 weeks ago (and maybe purchased it at the same time) in order to be able to conduct posts like these. I’ve been really really trying to suss out the merits of these posts without him but I have to be honest, he kind of drags down that whole side of things in my and in many others’ eyes.

Instead of attacking me for a change look what ootpd did do. No where did Markus ever state it had anything to do with laws just Com2us said remove. Anything beyond that is speculation.

They removed key elements of a game we paid for without replacing it. It's not my job to ask for custom files or mods. Or load up.ootp 22 to export Japan. It is ootpd responsibility to replace whatever they removed with a fictional setup to give us what we paid for.

Stop deflecting and trying to bring the conversation around to me. Focus on how bad ootpd customer service was and is.

We paid for Japan and it's Indy leagues if you can't give us real patch in fictional wizard. If not it is lazy development and awful customer service.

Stay on topic, the discussion is about ootpd not whatever you feel about me and my comments. I won't side track the thread and go off topic. If y'all want to go off topic and attack me. That's up to you. It's nice knowing I live rent free in your minds.

Stay on topic.
