Mogul going to hell...People coming and buying OOTP

Anyone else a former Mogul user and now a OOTP only buyer?

I still bought the last mogul, but have no interest in playing it. I played mogul since 07 I believe, and found OOTP in late 08....

I still frequent the forum on Mogul though, and even that is going to hell. I am wondering if the negative forum over there could be hurting some of the buying power from the game. The only positive I see in Mogul over OOTP is the actual graphics during game play. Anyone else have thoughts?

Curious of Mogul converts to discuss the reason for their switch.

I am pretty comfortable stating that almost all the OOTP players believe that the engine for OOTP is lightyears ahead of any other baseball game available.

I played Mogul for a fair number of years, and even have the football game on my hard drive...but if you are looking for statistical realism, it ain't gonna come from Mogul.

Last time I played mogul was a few years ago and it was blazin fast. I could finish a season in 5 minutes. The problem I had was with the stats. It was fun but I didn't have a desire to invest weeks/months into a league like I do with OOTP.

I play both games Jeffy. I actually thought the Mogul Engine is better than OOTP in terms of statistical accuracy thru OOTP9. I don't know if that is the case yet. I actually play Mogul more because I like the simplicity of the game play. The interface is very clean. What is going on in Mogulville is there are no moderators...and yes with all the trolls, it is a turnoff.

I totally hated OOTPBM2007, I thought it was a horrible game. I couldn't stand the interface and I felt the simulation engine was broken. Then I bought OOTP8 when it was first sold and a few months later, OOTP9 came out in the summer time. OOTP9 is probably the only OOTP game I got my money worth out since probably OOTP4 and OOTP5. I played countless hours of OOTP9. Then BM2k10 was release and it was a nice improvement, I bought OOTPX, but I didn't like the skin, and I felt like it was enough of an upgrade, I rarely played it...I want to play the latest and greatest. I have played 50% OOTP11, and 50% BM2k11. Both games I think are great, BM really needs to make the game more realistic when it comes to real roster rules. Only the graphics in PBP, fast simulation and clean interface is what Mogul has going for it. Even in Play-by-play if you take out graphics, OOTP PBP is better.

OOTP is probably the closest thing to actually managing a baseball team there is. Sometimes thou, I don't have a few hours to just play OOTP. So that is where I get my Baseball sim in from Mogul

I am also a convert to OOTP form Mogul.

I enjoyed Mogul back in the day.. but OOTP is like the big leagues while Mogul is AA...

My opinion at least.

I came over from the Mogul darkside as well. While Mogul is a good game, I like having all the options OOTP offers instead of having to wait until a gamer supplies them. With mods like pics, logos, and uniforms, I completely understand. When it comes to basics such as the Rule V draft, split stats, streaks, etc which I consider basic parts of baseball, I think it's inexcusable for them not to be included now.

I held off for the longest time buying OOTP, but I made the jump this year and couldn't be happier. OOTP is so far ahead of Mogul in terms of what I was looking for in a game. Plus, the community over here is more mature and helpful as well. I'll check out the BM board once in a while, but it's still 13 year old kids "screaming" about how their team is better because they said so or you're a doodyhead for not liking the Mets.

Jeffy, I guess the mogul boards did cause them to lose one customer. I'll fully admit the state of their boards caused me to look elsewhere. BUT, I will also thank those rugrats for pushing me over to OOTP which is the best baseball game on the market without peer.

Seriously, I own both Mogul and OOTP. I like Mogul's simplicity and speed, but dislike the lack of real roster rules. Also really dislike the absence of bonafide improvements in the game the past few years; just some minor tweaking around the edges. Football Mogul (yuck) is probably to blame for that. The biggest improvements in BM the past couple years came from a dude who coded some mod apps on his own and posted them on the boards there.

As a life long Sox fan, I don't blame anyone for hating most of the Sox fans these days. Deep down inside, I wouldn't be too disappointed if they suffered a down year just to get some of the new fans away. There was baseball in Boston before 2004...

Back to OOTP and Mogul...you're exactly right. The one guy really added depth to the game that the programmers should have been working on all along. Their lack of improvement and what seems like reliance on their players to improve the game for them may ultimately cost them many customers.

I lived in NE for a few years and noticed an obscene amount of non-baseball fan Sox fans. It reminded me of Yankee fans here or Cub fans in the Midwest. If you're a fan you better be able to tell me the top 2 of there rotation and the middle 3 of their lineup.

I played Mogul in the early years but abandoned it for OOTP 5 and haven't left since. OOTP was on my radar as early as v. 3, but it was too complicated to me at that time, but eventually I caught up. It's good for what it is and great for friends who aren't text sim fanatics yet.

Count me as another defector from Mogul to OOTP. When I first played Mogul (the first text-based baseball sim I've played, to be honest), I enjoyed it... for awhile.

Then one of Jeffy25's dynasties on the Mogul Board caught my attention, since he used OOTP X. I decided to give OOTP 8 a try (since it was free), wound up buying X, and now XI. So you can blame Jeffy25 for this one.

There's something wrong with a game when you need a mod-maker to create programs that give you basic stat splits, amongst other things. And the boards... well, I'll just point to the above comments. This place is better in every conceivable way.

Seen the light, ain't going back.

To bash on OOTP a little bit, I think the same thing about it and customizable playoffs and online league utilities. I mean, come on Markus, give us more playoff options like with TonyM's utility. And how many years has it been since BOSI came out? It seems to me Markus figures, "ah, someone will take care of that so I won't bother". That may make some sense, but it'd be better for a lot of people if they didn't have to try to install those things themselves and what happens if one of those utilities for whatever reason doesn't get updated to the latest version like TonyM's utility? That's a big reason to stay with OOTPX IMO.
