MarketCalc 24: CBT & Revenue Sharing Sheet
I made two new tabs in my MarketCalc update, but since most of you newbies don't remember this very old tool, I decided to just make a new thread to talk about the latest feature add.
You can use this tool to track deferrals, if you decide to play with them. Ever wanted a more realistic way to handle competitive balance in your OOTP league? I've created a spreadsheet tool that helps implement both a Competitive Balance Tax system and revenue sharing for smaller markets. The CBT calculator uses dynamic tiers that you can adjust based on your league's economy, rather than hard-coded MLB numbers. This lets you maintain competitive balance without being locked into real-world figures that might not fit your league's financial structure. The small market distribution system ensures that teams aren't rewarded for tanking, while providing support to genuinely competitive small market clubs. It takes into account market size rankings (1-36) and uses performance metrics to determine revenue sharing. My league has 36 teams, but even if you're just using normal 30 team MLB, this will work. This tool is part of my larger league financial tracking system, but these two components have been isolated and simplified for easy implementation in any OOTP league setup. There are far more complicated ways to iterate on this, I tried to keep it relatively lightweight and pretty easy to maintain year to year. It'll only work for you folks in Commissioner mode, but the formulas are tweakable. Here's the Google sheet version that you can clone or export Want to make your league's finances more realistic while maintaining competitive balance? Give it a try!

I made an update already, it was doing something weird where market size was causing your cap figure to be off. I've changed it to work how I wanted. Right now, that includes a small market cap incentive to the smallest 6 markets in my game, you might not want that, so you can remove it.
Any salary you defer can be included in this sheet, so that you're essentially not able to defer money without some kind of payroll penalty which the in-game luxury tax revenue sharing cannot account for. I have a personal version that I've tweaked more, including adding a section for expansion fees that clubs could draw from for several years. Right now, expansion sucks in OOTP because you lose players and they might not be good but they're another mouth to feed, but using this tool, you can make expansion a windfall like IRL and bolster your teams coffers for a few years with that one-time infusion.
