Amusingly bad AI logic for postseason series MVP

Bryan Woo: 7 shutout IP, 2 hits, 8 K in Game 2 of the NLDS

Kumar Rocker: 16.2 IP, 3 ER, 14 K in 2 starts...including a no-hitter in the decisive Game 5 of the NLDS

...and yet, Woo won MVP.

I would guess a position player with a home run, 3 rbi, 10 strikeouts and a .275 average

Check and see who has the higher popularity rating.

Woo was more popular, so that was probably it. That being said, it's still obviously unrealistic.

Ugh, I need to read better. Chris clearly states Woo won the MVP.....I read Woo as who and ignored the lack of a question mark. Ugh.

It could just be a coincidence in this case, but I've long kind of felt that popularity plays too important a role in OOTP. I mean, do we really care about player popularity in real baseball? Shohei Ohtani might be the only current player that a significant number of people really buy a ticket to a game just to watch him. I don't think in general anyone really buys a ticket to watch a specific player. I think we pay to see teams. It's probably only those players who people will talk about 100 years from now that a lot of people pay just to see.

I'm okay with popularity playing a tiny part in OOTP, but like when we read how people sign washed up players to contracts just to improve fan interest or something, that's crazy to me. Note that that might not be a thing anymore, it may have been nerfed, but I definitely saw different people recommend that. If it's for the AI to break a tie on deciding between two virtually identical players, sure, use it, but if it played a part in deciding this (I don't think it's a close decision at all), no thank you.

Teams have been signing washed up All-Stars for years to drive fan interst on bad teams. It may be less of a thing today as there is so much access to info for players. But Kenley Jansen is in Anaheim. However, as a historical player, its highly useful in the 70's-90's as it was then.

Are you seriously suggesting people in Anaheim are buying a ticket to see Kenley Jansen? Peak Roger Clemens won back to back Cy Youngs for the Jays and management complained for years that he did nothing to increase attendance. I'm sure he must have a bit, but they expected a whole lot more. And he was one of the very best players in the league. No, I'm not buying that anyone is buying a ticket to go see Kenley Jansen in 2025 who isn't close family or friends of his. The dude isn't even having a decent year so far.

I'd buy tickets to see a team because of who's on it not just because of the team.
IE the only ay I'd pay to see the Pirates play is if Skenes is pitching.
Popularity does come into play in awards in RL so it should in the game.
That being said there should be no universe where 16.2 IP, 3 ER, 14 K in 2 starts...including a no-hitter doesn't win series MVP

Usually when this is done for cachet it’s a future HOFer / a guy chasing a milestone, not Kenley Jansen. Jansen got signed because someone has to close, he was an All Star 2 years ago, and still decent last year.
