Let's Go, Let's Go
I don't know if this happens a lot to anyone else, but I am so sick of hearing the chant, "Let's Go, Let's Go, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap". It happens about 10-20 times per game. That's too much for me. So, I moved the file from the sounds folder. Hope that helps.
PS. In spite of its many quirks, I still absolutely love this game. |

Problem solved. For me, it's not the sounds or the repetition, but the delay, where they appear after a play, inning over, as a delayed reaction.

OOTP needs an entire auditory upgrade.

I thought it used to be okay, but I swear it's getting worse. My main issue is with the loudness normalization. You'll go from your average crowd murmur to unexplainable seconds of almost silence, except maybe a crack of the bat, then back to the murmur, and then to some sudden loudness that will suddenly jolt you awake if you're dozing off. It's especially noticeable if you wear headphones. The loud ones they could really tone down a bit, but the moments of almost silence I think must be a glitch because I don't hear them every game. And I understand you can adjust the volume levels, but they should be better normalized by default, not rely on you to do it yourself.
If you're interested in learning how to normalize the loudness of files yourself, you can do so fairly easily with Audacity. What was a noticeable downgrade with OOTP25 were the 2 new files: intro_ironman and intro_midnightride. Like WTH? Those drove me bonkers. I had never removed an audio file from OOTP before, but I had to after only a couple games of that. I'm playing a game taking place in the 1930s, not watching a sci-fi tv show from the 1980s. And I like 1980s stuff and sci-fi, I just don't want it fusioned with my baseball. If anyone wants to get rid of the same file the OP is talking about, it's intro2 in the sounds folder. Of the old ones, I agree it's probably the worst as it can be pretty jarring and possibly anachronistic. If they add any new ones in the future, I hope they avoid anything like it. A while back I switched out the cotton candy effect, which didn't even sound like "cotton candy" to me, for the "ice cream, ice cream" effect from Speedball 2, which was my favourite game growing up. Some users like micropterus58 and twins_34 have posted some sound mods on the boards here. One thing about the audio I get a kick out of is when I hear the plane above. I don't know why, but I really like that. It's not something I would have thought to add.

kq76, I agree with the anachronistic sounds. I had planes flying overhead in my fictional league in 1900. Maybe Orville and Wilbur were doing some beta testing. I have used Audacity to replace some default sounds the were out of place, too loud or too long. After each patch I needed to copy these edited files back. YouTube is a good source for tutorials for Audacity. Bobble has a thread that is very helpful. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=288969

kq76, I'm no sound engineer. LOL. I just use a little common sense and experimentation. To reduce the volume I lower the gain by using the slider on the left. Hover the cursor over the slider to get the tool tip to show "gain". I then use my ears to check the results. Nothing scientific. The effect/volume and compression/limiter or loudness or normalize may be a better option. You'd at least have a number to quantify what your ears hear.

To me, playing like thousands of games every year as I do, they just all kind of blend into the background after a while. The "let's go, let's go" audio is a bit more annoying than most just because it doesn't really sound like a crowd noise TBH but more like 4 guys who got together to say something that you might hear in some game or other.
The anachronisms, I'm not sure what to say or what OOTP ought to do about that. It's pretty much a game designed to be played as a GM sim in the modern era. Obviously there are a million different ways to play it - and I play a particular, non-modern, esoteric version myself - but the more you stray from the "designed" version the more workarounds you'll need to implement and/or the more anachronisms you'll need to ignore. In a perfect world all of this would be seamless but at best I think the things that can/ought to be changed are the things that might negatively effect the GM sim / modern era stuff.

I have no problem with the modern sounds. We have the option to delete, edit, and add audio files which I am glad the developers have allowed to be done. This game is very customizable for those that wish to do it. The ability to customize lineups, uniforms, schedules, leagues and more is why I like the game.
