Pass Balls and Throw Over Rule Glitches

There are way too many pass balls to be believalbe. It seems to especailly occur with a runner on third. This was not caused by a poor defensive rating in catchers as it seems to occur across the board.

Another thing, the pitcher is allowed to throw over to first as many time as he wants without occuring a violation.

Please fix

The obligatory questions...,

What is too many?
How many PB in your league?
How does that compare to real life passed balls per game?

Unfortunately league passed balls are shown on the team fielding screen and split stats aren't supported on that page. IE you can't sort them by situation.

I'm currently in my spring training so have no way to look at my current passed balls, fielding stats aren't kept in ST. What I can say is I do look over my league stats at seasons end and have never seen passed ball totals out of line, but I do autocalc my league total modifiers. Passed balls are controlled by LTM's and FWIW my LTM for passed balls is .669. So if my league was never AC'd and running at 1.000 for passed balls I'd be seeing results in the area of 30% to high. That is not saying .669 would work in your league, all leagues are different.

You are right they did not add the new throw over rules. Maybe for v25?

Passed balls are a thing that's accounted for in the yearly stat adjustment that's done on Opening Day, so if you're playing a historical league, they should be really accurate on a league-wide basis. For "starting in the year now" leagues, correct me if I'm wrong but don't those do a similar LTM with the last MLB season? Even if they don't, if they go forward after the first year, they should be based on the current year and a large enough league isn't going to see all that much drift.

One thing i will say is that passed balls and wild pitches sure *feel* like they happen too often. I've had multiple seasons where I've been like "what the hell, this is way off!" and then I looked at the actual league totals for the year and discovered that they were within 10% of reality. In my case, I play out all the games in the league (from the 7th inning on) and even in a league where there are 13 PBs per team per season, that comes out to about one per league per day...

I haven't looked to see if mine are too many or too few, but what I have noticed is, when they do happen, it's usually right after I bring in a reliever, which I imagine is probably when most happen IRL.

Heh, they do always seem to happen late in games. I figured it had something to do with how the game handles pitcher fatigue and rustiness (I have the warmup rule turned off but it sure feels like pitchers are still more wild than normal when facing their 1st or 2nd batter, and I’m sure starters get more wild as they get tired).

Yeah, it's to the point where if there's a runner on 3rd, I have to seriously think twice about bringing in another reliever now. I'd sometimes rather just take my chances with the current pitcher for 1 more BF, even when I think he's lost it.

And I should say, I'm not really distinguishing WP from PB. When one happens, I don't pay attention to which it was. The OP said PB, but I wonder if he's combining them in his head like I do. Maybe that's what is making them seem more than what is realistic. Or it could simply be a case like injuries. What we think is realistic really isn't.
