My Wishlist
I've been keeping a features / improvements wishlist for a little while and I figured I'd post it finally. I imagine I'll periodically post new points, but I'll also add them to the OP so you can read either.
Disclaimer: I should mention that while I started this list while playing OOTP22, I'm now playing OOTP24. So if something has been added, improved, changed (or I'm just mistaken about something), please feel free to point that out. Original List: -Save Staffs - Save staffs (just like we can save lineups) and by staff I mean rotation and bullpen. -Ask Manager/Coach for Rotation Only - We can ask them for staffs and bullpens, why not rotation only? -Save Depth Charts Along With Lineups - I keep having to re-select "generate depth chart...". Probably best to have options to save one or the other and both at the same time. I imagine there may be a reason why it doesn't also save depth charts, but I wish it was an option at least. -Fix "Lock to... Team" - The game doesn't seem to adhere to the "lock to... team" setting. I do play "Act As", but I do have "Active Roster Moves" set to me so why does it keep promoting a 4A pitcher and demoting a candidate for last year's Pitcher of the Year? And while we're at it, have it lock to a majors or minors team instead of just a minors team. -Choose Which Team Shows By Default - Set a primary team to show in the menu. I keep having to select the team I follow. -Owner-Mode - Create an owner-mode, somewhat similar to commish-mode, where you're not doing most things, but you can interfere with some, like set your own owner goals, tag some players as untradeable, set your budgets, decide how much of the profits you want to pocket, pick staffs and lineups if you want. This mode would also make the league act as a "human league" with respect to saves. And you could subscribe to that team's news, etc. As it is now, I have to keep re-setting things as the AI keeps doing things I don't want it to do. And I do "Act As", but I do have a lot of the options set to me. You might ask, "why not just play in GM or manager mode?". Well, 1) I don't want to lose either of those people/positions, and 2) I want to play as a meddling owner. -Outfield Distance Signs - Put outfield distance/depth signs on the fictional outfield walls. I understand that might be difficult, but if we can assign where we want the position boxes to show up then we could assign these signs too. -Customize Widget Stats - Let us customize what stats are displayed on the pitching and batting widgets in-game. -League Templates - Let us create a template of not just a world, but also of a single league in a world. Sometimes I want to make a near exact copy of a league I already have in the same world, but to do that you have to re-set all the league settings. -Show Everyone's "Game Score" - In the boxscore, like you do for the SPs. I'm curious! I want to know how everyone compares. -Force AI to Warm Up Relief Pitchers - We have to warm up ours, so should they. -Review How Long it Takes Relievers to Both Warm Up and Tire - I think it takes a touch too long to warm up relievers. Sure, I would expect SPs to take longer to warm up, but I think RPs should maybe take less time to warm up. Also, once relievers are warmed up I think they may tire too fast. -Show Warmed Up Relievers' Tiredness - If relievers get tired by just warming up, shouldn't that show in the gradient below their picture once they come into the game? Or are they not really tired? It doesn't make sense that they can show as tired while warming up, but they're no longer tired once they enter the game. EDIT: Also, Dan Plesac said you don't want to warm up relievers more than twice (and Bo Porter agreed), yet it seems that we can warm them up without consequence in OOTP. I warmed up a reliever 4 times in a game and his fatigue bar still started at the far right. -Warm Up Via Game In-Play Screen - Instead of having to click out of the in-play screen, select Options tab, select human-controlled substitutions, select Substitions tab, select "Ask Bench Coach..." or "Drag and drop...", I wish we could do all that via the already existing Lineup/Bullpen widget. Clicking on the green circle with the plus sign in it already brings up the "Bullpen Screen", why not make it also auto-select human-controlled substitutions and place the "Ask Bench Coach" and "Drag and drop..." functions there too? I like the idea of the "Bullpen Screen", but why not make it far more useful? -Shortcut to Enable Human-Controlled Substitutions - I change whether I want human-controlled substitutions often several times during a game. I wish there was a shortcut to it, maybe even a hotkey. -Change "Game Action" Tab to a Button and Move it to the Right - Most of the game's buttons to advance play are on the right, but Game Action is on the left and it's a tab which may be confusing for new players as it doesn't bring up a tab at all, but switches screens. -Change Human-Control Pulldown Menus to Toggles - Can there ever be more than the 2 options? If not, why make the user click through a pulldown, make it a toggle instead so it's only 1 click and less extra movement. -Show Date While Playing Out Games - It shows the time, why doesn't it show the date? I like being reminded of the date. -State # of Home Runs That Player Has Hit Every Time They Hit a Home Run - the play by play text does sometimes show how many home runs a player has hit once they've hit a home run, but it doesn't always and I think it should. They pretty much always do when watching games IRL. I'm tempted to learn how to edit the pbp just for this. -Replay PBP When Replaying a Play - I love that we can replay plays, but I find it frustrating that we can't replay the pbp. Usually you can tell exactly what happened watching the play, but sometimes there's something critical in the PBP that scrolled off the screen and you can't see again. -Slo-Mo Replay - Have slo-mo replay angles of close plays at the bases. -Exit Velocity - In the PBP or somewhere else on the in-play screen, let's show the exit velocity of batted balls. They always show it when watching games IRL now, I'd like to see it while watching OOTP. -Launch Angle - I don't really care about Launch Angle, but if it's easy to add while adding Exit Velocity, then add it too maybe. -PostSeason Predictions - Like PreSeason Predictions. -Rename Wishlists - Be able to rename wishlists like we can rename views and filters. -Easy Way to Import Views, Filters, Shortlists - I know we can transfer views and filters outside of OOTP, but it's probably too difficult/complicated for some people. -Entice Retired Players - There should be a way to try to entice players to come out of retirement, not to force unretire them, but to entice them with the right contract. -Turn Retired Players into Coaches - I understand this is possible, but you have to right click on every player to see if the option comes up. It'd be a lot easier if you could mass select a bunch of retired players, select that option which would always be available, and then a pop up would tell you which players turned into coaches and/or which did not. As it is now, you can try dozens of players and that option might not show and you wouldn't know it's even possible unless you read about it on the boards. -Increase Possible # of Expansion Draft Teams - I wanted to expand by another 16 team subleague, but I couldn't use the expansion draft feature as it's capped at 10 teams. I get it, teams usually only expand by 1 or 2 teams, but if you're going to allow for 10 you might as well allow for more. Where do you cap it? 24? -Expansion Draft Rounds - MLB has had an interesting round system for its most recent expansion drafts. That is, the first round they'd get to protect n players, then each team could lose a max of 1 player, then they'd get to protect m players, and repeat. It's not necessary, but it would be interesting to re-do those drafts according to the exact rules. -Add Bullpen Coach - I keep hearing that the bullpen coach is one of the most important coach signings as he's in charge of an island of relievers that are becoming more and more important. I'd like to have one. The more opportunities to turn former players into coaches the better. -Add Catching Instructor - Most, if not all, teams also have a catching instructor now. I'd like to have one. -Improve 3D Ground Textures - The closeups of the ground (grass and dirt) look terrible, the backgrounds look more in focus. I really don't think I'm that big on graphics, but the grounds could really do with some improvement. -Separate World_Default.xml into smaller files - As large as it is now it's difficult to work with as text editors running it keep "not responding". Others have said they're able to edit it just fine, but my computer is really not that old so I can't possibly be the only person running into problems with it. -Enable Recently Scouted Players when "Acting As" - When acting as a GM your Recently Scouted Players screen is always empty no matter how many Scouting Reports you request. -Don't Clear Scout Task List Everyday when "Acting As" - When acting as a GM you can request scouting reports and they will show on the Scout Task List, but as soon as you advance a day the screen clears. -Add View Groups - I have a lot of views and I have to scroll down to select the one I want and sometimes it's difficult to remember what each is for. It'd be great if we could separate them into groups and then you could first select the group and then the specific view from that group. -Fix Pitcher Overall Ratings - Far too often do you see clearly inferior pitchers with much better overall ratings than another pitcher with not only much better ratings but also much better stats. I understand, you should need to drill down to other ratings too, but you should only need to do that with pitchers that are at least somewhat similar. Something is very off. -Challenge Replay System - Add a challenge replay system where you as the manager can risk challenging close plays. You know those plays that look so close and you could swear the PBP was wrong, well maybe it was! -HBP Rating for Batters - Certain players are a lot more "susceptible" than others to being hit by pitch. We could do with a rating for that. -BABIP Batting Rating - At first when the question came up of should OOTP keep displaying the amalgamated Contact rating or should it switch to showing the BABIP rating, I said stick with Contact as it was what people were accustomed to. But playing PT the little I did this last year made me wish regular OOTP did show the BABIP rating instead. It bugs me now thinking, "well, Contact is only high because his Avoid K / Power is high; his contact ability isn't that good, really". Maybe the best thing to do is keep calling it Contact, but just show the BABIP rating #. That way it won't scare off people who don't want to get into what BABIP is, yet it still gives everyone this important rating and one that isn't in some weird middle area between a basic rating and overall. -DH Options - Add a SP-only DH (aka double-hook DH) or a personal-bodyguard DH option. With the SP-only DH you're playing AL baseball while your SP is still in, where your DH bats instead of your SP; and NL baseball when they come out, where you could bring in a pinch hitter for your relievers or just have them bat. With a personal bodyguard DH, whenever the pitcher's spot is up to bat, his personal batter hits for him. That means you only have to change a DH when the pitcher's spot comes up and the pitcher has changed, you don't change the batter if you've had other relievers in-between the plate appearances. I think the personal-bodyguard option is better if you like the use of Openers, but the SP-only option would help encourage the SP game. It's a shame they switched to universal DH without going with one of these options instead as the late inning of an NL game was so much more interesting. I really think that if it wasn't for just wanting to end the work stoppage that they might have gone with one of these options. Added 2022-10-18: -Ability to Rename ASG Teams - We can't rename all-star teams and if you don't have 2 sub-leagues the game names them AS1 and AS2. Not everyone plays with 2 sub-leagues so let us name the teams however we want. -Ability to Assign Divisions to Particular ASG Teams - Right now, with only 1 league, it seems the game just assigns the first half of your divisions to the first team and the other half to the second, what if you didn't want that? -Draft ASG Teams - Have an option for the ASG teams to be drafted, like the NBA does. This would resolve the problem of 1 and 3 divisions leagues not supporting ASGs. -Owner Fav Personality Class - We have fan fav, I'd like to see owner favs. These players would seem to get whatever they wanted and wouldn't get traded, but you could also fall out of favour with the owner (just imagine the storylines!). -Reconsider Stamina Rating - I can't help but wonder if we need to do something different with the stamina rating. I understand, you want a pitcher to have at least 3 decent pitches to be able to start nowadays, but it almost seems to me like stamina rating doesn't matter for anything anymore. And I even normally play 80s settings so you'd think it might still matter. Should we do something about it? If this 3 decent pitches / stamina doesn't matter mandate depends on the era being played, what is the last era when this is not the case? -Add Japanese and Spanish - We've added Korean parts to the boards and game (understandably for OOTP's new owners), but we should have Japanese and Spanish as well as those are the other 2 big baseball languages. Surely the Japanese market, at least, would lap up OOTP. -Split Standings Screen Into 2 Columns - Right now, if you only have 1 league it lists all the teams down only the left side of the screen. I'd like it to put half of them down right side of the screen like you'd see in a 2 sub-league game. -Custom Standings Screen Leaderboards - Allow us to choose which stats, and how many entries for each, get shown on the margins on the standings screen. I'm sure everyone has different stats they like to pay attention to (wOBA and FIP for me) and others they wish were never thought up (OPS for me). And like the above request, allow us to split half of them onto the right side in single sub-league setups. -Ability to Warm Up Relievers After a Half-Inning - Right now you have to warm-up relievers while a half-inning is in process, but once the third out is recorded it skips to the next inning without giving you a chance to warm up a reliever during the time between the half-innings. It'd also be nice to get confirmation that the time between half-innings is being counted in the time to warm up relievers. -Team Transactions Log Filter - It'd be nice to be able to filter types of transactions. For example, if I just want to see trades or signings, let me just see them and not have to look at all the promotions and demotions and everything else. With a filter I'd make the reports yearly instead of monthly like they are now. -Specific Team Transactions Logs - Maybe instead of the above filter option, at least have specific reports for the whole year (in addition to the monthly everything under the sun reports). When I look at the logs I'm usually looking for a specific type of entry, not everything that happened that month. -Add Inaugural Draft Log to Almanac - The very first draft log should be added to the almanac. As it is now, I manually save that log soon after it is generated, but people who don't know it doesn't get saved miss out on ever looking back at it. Added 2022-10-20: -Rename Fastball Pitch Type to "Four-Seamer" - I understand that OOTP often means four-seamer when they say fastball, but there are a number of different types of fastballs (four-seamer, two-seamer/sinker, cutter, splitter) and I wish they were specific with it like they are with the others. -Improve Pitch Type Abbreviations - I think it's important to use abbreviations that are unlikely to be confused with something else. I'd re-abbrev: FB to 4F (as above, I don't like how OOTP just calls four-seamers fastballs when there are multiple types of fastballs), Cutter to CT and Curveball to CV (CU could be mistaken to mean Curveball or Cutter), Splitter to SF (of course, in context, SP doesn't mean Starting Pitcher, but it's so much more well known to mean Starting Pitcher that I think something else would be better and since a splitter is also frequently called a "split-finger fastball"; SF works, although someone might mistake it somewhere for meaning Sac Fly, maybe use ST), SI to SK (I just think it's too easy to think that maybe the second letter isn't capitalized and then one might mistake it for SL for Slider), FO to FK (there are so many baseball terms that FO is used for: flyout, foul out, now follower, I can't think of anything FK is used for) and, if you want to differentiate two-seamers from sinkers (some don't), use 2F. I think the few others are fine. -Simulate Rehab Starts with Reserve Rosters - As it is now, without minor leagues you can't send your players on rehab starts to reduce their risk of injury. You just have to risk it. I'd like for the game to instead simulate rehab starts using your reserve roster. It sims play for development, it should sim rehab too. -Betting Odds/Lines - So often we see betting odds/lines shown IRL now, it'd be interesting to see those on our games. This you definitely want to only be an option as I'm sure some people would very much not want to see this. -Clarify Who Controls Draft Pick Signing Negotiations - In the Manager Options screen it's really not clear which option controls draft pick signing negotiations. -Draftee Signing Messages - I think we should get messages when our draftees sign. It would also remind me to check on the other negotiations. -Deadline Reminder Messages - It would help if we could tell the game to send us a reminder message about deadlines (trade, all-star/awards/hof voting, draftee negotiations, arbitration hearings, free agency, etc), like say a week in advance. Or better yet, let us enter how many days in advance. -More Custom Awards - Right now we only have 1 custom award. Again, only 1. Yet so many people on the boards have come up with so many good ideas for custom awards. (My favourite is the Golden Spikes award, which I give to the player with the highest BsR.) Why not allow us more? How many more? I don't know. 8 to make 9 total? At least 2 more I'd say. -Turn the Most Popular Custom Awards into Built-In Awards - As I said above, so many people on the boards have come up with great ideas for what to do with their custom awards. I think we should add the best / most popular into the game by default. Some of the ones I remember seeing a lot are: Best Base-stealer (most SBs), Best Slugger (best ISO or SLG among qualifiers), Home Run King, Best OBP, Best Overall Batter (so MVP can focus on best player to make the playoffs), Post-Season MVP, Comeback, Most Improved, Humanitarian, Most Popular, 10th man (best bench batter), Best Nine (like All-Stars, but only 1 for each position for the entire league), Strikeout King (pitcher with most Ks), IP Leader, Manager, Executive. The game is great. We should celebrate the standouts as much as possible! -Too Many Hits to LF, not enough to RF - I'm pretty sure I see far more balls hit to LF than to RF. As FanGraphs points out, and contrary to popular belief, more balls get hit to RF than LF. My lefty heavy offense might influence this, but I'm pretty sure I see it from the opposition as well. EDIT: I'm not seeing this in OOTP23 now so I think this must have gotten fixed. Yay! -Hard Hit %s - I've read that balls hit to LF have a higher hard hit % than those hit to RF. It's probably obvious to most that pulled balls are generally hit harder and since there are more RHBs than LHBs, more balls to LF are hard hit since RHBs pull to LF, but Fangraphs confirms this. I wonder, however, does OOTP factor this in? I have a lot of powerful LHBs on my team so, I think, I see a lot of hard hit balls past 1B, but I'm not sure I see enough to 3B/LF from either team. -Fix Active Roster Moves Option - In the Manager Options I have selected myself for Active Roster Moves yet the AI keeps making changes I wouldn't make. -Fix Game Recaps From Leaving Off Letters - In the Game Recaps I often see the first letter of players' names missing. -Tweak Bullpen Usage - Overall I think OOTP does a pretty good job with how it deploys its bullpen, but occasionally it makes bizarre decisions. For instance, some times it will bring in your closer when you're losing by a lot or it will bring in your worst reliever in a close game when plenty of better relievers are rested. -Express Stamina as a Range or # of Pitches or Innings - I often have pitchers whom I some times use as relievers and some times use as starters. Some times these pitchers will have good Stamina ratings. And you might think, "if he can pitch several innings as a starter, he should be able to go several innings as a reliever". But that's not the case. OOTP seems to program it so (non-follower) relievers often hit a wall after 2 innings. Previously, I said Stamina needed to be re-worked as it was seemingly meaningless now. I now think that if we expressed Stamina as a range or # of pitches or innings that it would make a lot more sense. Just because your reliever has 70/80 Stamina doesn't mean he should be able to go the rest of the way. No, he could go 2, maybe 3, innings, but not likely any more than that. -State Whether a Player Has Strong Splits - I wish OOTP flat out told us whether a player had strong splits or not. I know, I know, I can look at their stats and/or ratings and make my own determination, but all I want to know is yes, no, or somewhat and whether they're regular or reverse. I don't want to have to do the mental math. A 5 point scale would be great: strong regular, somewhat regular, insignificant, somewhat reverse, strong reverse. You could put this among the "Other Ratings". Added 2022-11-15: -Option to Save Sub-Folders, That Don't Overwrite Files (news/Almanac, dump, import_export, etc), Outside of .lg Folder - I like to manually backup and 7zip my lg folder periodically outside of the game (I've had some backups using the in-game backup function go bad), but when you do this it saves the same files every time. For instance, if your league is 10 seasons in and say you save the league 6 or so times a season, then you'd then have 54 copies of the first year's almanac, 48 of the second, and so on. If you had the option of saving these files outside of the .lg folder then you wouldn't have this problem and you wouldn't have to later delete all these duplicate files. -Get Loose vs Get Hot - Dan Plesac noted a distinction between getting loose and getting hot. OOTP could emulate that by allowing us to tell a guy to only get loose vs get hot. And getting loose wouldn't impact their fatigue or their ability to warm up another time while getting hot would. I could see it working very similarly to how it works now. You tell a guy to get loose (maybe the previous half inning just like now) and he warms up to the point where he's at the "loose" stage (like now's "warming up" stage), but then he sits down (on his own). He stays at this "loose" stage for a little while and if you decide you do need him (say your current pitcher gives up a hard hit or a walk), you tell your bullpen coach to get that loosened up reliever "hot". He then takes only a PA or 2 to get to the "ready" or "hot" stage at which point you can safely bring him in. That would allow you to warm up a reliever in a much more reliable amount of time. As it is now, it could take twice as long to warm up a reliever from cold to ready. Or, if you didn't foresee that you might need someone well enough ahead of time, instead of telling him to loosen up, you could tell him to get hot (like now) and that would skip the auto sit down part, but it would take longer (like now). I like this! -Make Teams Have To Ask Permission to Talk to Your Staff - As it is now, other teams can poach your staff without even telling you. Teams should first have to ask permission to talk to your staff. And if you said, no, your organization could take a reputation hit making other personnel less willing to sign with you (you blocked someone else so there's a good chance you'd block them to). And conversely, if you said, yes, you'd get a bump to organization's reputation. -Ability to Counter a Team Trying to Poach Your Staff - If another team makes an offer to one of your staff, you'd get the chance to make them an even better offer. You might even choose to offer them a different position. -Auto-Rest Star Players in a Blowout - It'd be nice if we could tell our manager to rest our star players in a blowout. I expect the hard part is defining a blowout as everyone has different ideas on what constitutes one. Here's a thread with some ideas on how to define it. -Pace Yourself Reliever Toggle - A toggle telling your reliever to pace himself would be good. And in return, of course, the reliever would lose some effectiveness. Why would you want this? Well, say it's in the late innings and you know your staff is exhausted and you think the game could go several more innings, you might rather tell your reliever to pace himself (and not get that effectiveness boost) than go hard and probably have to use even more relievers. See this thread for more. -Designate Position Players as Emergency Relievers - Like some MLB teams in real life sometimes bring in non-pitchers to pitch (Willians Astudillo for the win!), I'd like us to be able to designate certain non-pitchers do the same. Does OOTP ever have non-pitchers pitch? I often control my substitutions from the 6th inning on so I wouldn't be the best to witness this, but I don't think I've ever seen the game do this on its own. -Plan Releases - I'd like to tell the game to release a player on an upcoming date (once the OffSeason starts) and the game would take this into account when calculating the budget for extensions. Currently it just assumes you will keep everyone that is arbitration eligible and subtracts that value from your available $. -Add PostSeason Rounds to Split > Game Types - I'd like to just compare players' stats based on specific postseason rounds (to determine my own MVPs, etc). The best we can do now is split based on all of the PostSeason. -Add Counting Stats to Game Log Lines - HBP, SF, CS, IBB, SH, RBOE, RBOI, and XI (in rough order of importance) all go into various rate stats (wOBA, RC/G) that we might want to calculate. It'd be nice if OOTP recorded them on the game log lines not just in the end of game reports, but also the players' Game Logs tab. As it is now, we have to comb through the actual game logs themselves if we want to factor these in. These are all in Statcast. -Add Arbitration Eligible Tab/Filter - Like the Upcoming FA tab, I'd like an Upcoming ArbEli tab to more easily decide whom to release or to try to sign them to a contract before their hearing. -Ability to Adjust Qualifiers - Far too few pitchers qualify for awards now when 162 IP is the minimum qualifier. I'd like the ability to adjust it. I'd go to 2/3 of that (like QSs), but I think we should be able to set it to whatever we want. Batters too. It may be wrong, but I believe I once read that 3.1 was picked either just because 3 gave about the number of players they wanted to qualify or about the most PA a player will get in a game is 6 and half of that is 3 and .1 was tacked on to make it a bit more. That's pretty arbitrary so why not let us pick the #. -More Scouts - I'd like the option to use either the current system or a system with more scouts. I'm not sure which would be best: department heads or a bunch of roaming scouts or both. I know we had it before and it was scrapped, but I'd like to see another stab taken at it. -Home Ballpark Upgrades - I'd like to see the ability to spend money to upgrade your ballpark which in turn would hopefully help attendance. -Spring Training Facilities - Similar to home ballpark upgrades above, let's have the ability to upgrade our ST facilities to hopefully help development. -Spring Training Focus - I'd like us to be able to tell the game to focus on certain things in ST. For example, at the beginning of ST I determine at what positions I want to cross-train each player. Now you could control the substitutions for each game in ST to make this happen, but that's not much fun. So the way I do it is set my lineups, start the game, select human substitutions, back out of the game, play one PA, then switch back to AI substitutions and either sim the rest of the game or watch it. The game does a good job playing out ST games, but it doesn't do a good job of deciding whom to cross-train and where. -News/Mail Filters/Subscriptions - The news/mail contains a lot of stuff I'm not interested in. I'd love the ability to subscribe to only certain news and/or filter only what I want to bother reading. For example, I want to read anything to do with the team I'm following, but I have no interest in news about the top 5 players in some random stat or some random player I haven't shortlisted or has never played for me signing with another team (why would I care?), or multiple messages from a player saying they're considering my offer (this last season I probably got a dozen of these for 1 single player; if you want to tell me to up my offer or you're soon going to sign elsewhere, fine, but don't msg me constantly and not sign anywhere!). -More Extensions / Add An Extensions Slider - Is it just me or is the AI not re-signing enough of their players? My league is swamped with FAs, which is great for me as I constantly get to upgrade, but I don't think it's good for the league. No good team stays good and I don't have enough competition to develop a real rivalry. There's a trade slider, I think there should be an extension slider. -"Follow" A Team - It'd be great to be able to choose to "follow" the news of a team. Say you don't want to run a team, you just want to watch the league unfold, you might like to also follow all the messages a team gets. Or say you do run a team, you may want to also follow all the news of your closest rival! -Fast Sim Mode - Sometimes people want to test things or just sim as fast as possible. It'd be nice if we could just press a button and the game would popup a dialog with a bunch of options pre-selected and ask the user if there was anything they didn't want the game to do. It would ask you if you want to keep these new settings or go to your previous settings after the sim and it would ask you what exact date you want to sim to or a simple how many years. Then the user would press another button and the game would sim in fast sim mode. See my "Ways to Sim Faster" post on what could be included in this fast sim mode. Added 2023-03-27: -Yankees' Monument Park / Dodgers' Ring of Honour / Blue Jays' Level of Excellence - I'm not a fan of retiring numbers, but I do like other ways of honouring a team's past greats. -Team Draft Log - I'd like to see a log that lists a single team's draft picks and signings. As it is now, you have to scour the team's txn log and the league's last draft log doesn't show draft signings. -Lock Player to Team - I know there's a checkbox to lock a player to a team, but it doesn't work if you're playing "Act As". I'd like it to work with it. The AI keeps releasing this guy I want on my team and it's driving me nuts. He's clearly good enough, better than the AAA dreck the AI brings up, yet they keep releasing him and I keep having to edit the expenses and him back onto the team. -Release Check - Another way to help prevent the above would be a dialog pop up checking if you want to release the player the AI wants to release. It'd be great to tell it no instead of having to edit your finances and edit him his contract back. EDIT: I finally found the "Prevent any AI roster changes" checkbox and thank the heavens I did as the constant releases driving up my expenses were driving me absolutely mad, but you need to play in commissioner mode to access that checkbox (it's on the Team Settings screen) and I imagine others would still greatly appreciate this release check idea. -Customizable Games Split - I'd like to be able to set a certain # of games to view the stats from. Personally, I'd like something like 6, 12, or 18 as that's usually 1, 2, or 3 whole weeks of games for me, but I'm sure others would prefer other #s of games like 5 or 10 or 15, who knows. You can select week or month, but those can be too short to be of any use depending on where you are in the calendar, # of games would be better. This would be great to see if a player was hot or cold, but not hot or cold enough to get one of those icons, which may tell you that you might want to move a guy up or down in your lineup. -Automatic Backups - I'd like automatic backups, similar to auto-saves, that you can set the frequency for like weekly, monthly, maybe every important event. I try to do this manually myself, but every once in awhile I forget and sim past the exact date I mean to backup. -Graphical Depth Chart tab for Pitching Staff - I keep admiring the "Graphical Depth Chart" for my batters and I keep wishing we had something similar for the pitching staff. Just copy the same background and put however many SPs in a column in the center and the relievers off in a top corner or something. I just like visualizing them on the field. -Tragic Numbers in Addition to Magic Numbers - Magic numbers are pretty standard by now, but more and more people are looking at tragic numbers. You could even have them both in the same column, just prefix one with negative signs. Either way would work. If you preceded the magic numbers with negatives it'd be like they wanted to get above zero while teams with tragic numbers would want to stay above zero. Or, if you preceded the tragic numbers with negatives it would make sense as negatives are generally thought of as bad while positives are good. -Add MLB's New (as of 2022) 13 Pitcher Limit - Yes, there are settings that will allow you to set a typical number of pitchers, but you can't actually force teams to carry a max of 13 pitchers. -Add Option for ISO 8601 Date Format (yyyy-mm-dd) - I'd love to see an option on the File > Settings > Misc page for the ISO 8601 date format of yyyy-mm-dd (alongside the already existing height, weight, speed options). Being used to differences with American formats I can re-arrange the sometimes confusing American date format of mm-dd-yy in my head, but I wish we had the option of yyyy-mm-dd. Not only is it clear that it starts big and ends small (little endian) right from the start, but it keeps the mm-dd part that Americans are used to, and, often importantly, it sorts. It's also a more accepted date format outside of the US and with OOTP continuing their efforts to broaden their market, I think it would be good to include it. Using hyphens also makes dates more readable, especially when you're scanning a lot of them (slashes look too much like some numbers). -Add News Bylines - Some of the news articles are really good and I'd just like to know who wrote them, congratulate them, and encourage them to write even more. I wonder if we shouldn't add a byline feature and in it the author could enter either their real name or a pseudonym with their forum name in quotes in-between. And if no byline is entered, come up with a fictitious name without a forum name. Like who was a poster here whose posts I was consistently impressed with, was it endgame? I haven't seen him post in forever, but wouldn't it be neat if we could go to the boards and send the occasional PM congratulating them on a job well done? Maybe even make it a link. -Add Option to Not Divide Award Voting by Sub League - Ktulu requested this a long time ago and I'd very much like to see it as well. Along with the other awards, I'd especially like to award a [Best Nine, like Japan](https://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Best_Nine) does for their leagues, but I'd prefer to have a Best Nine for my entire league. -Add PT Streak Continue Days - The reason why I quit PT for a good long time was I missed a streak day by a few hours for the countless time. It was after the season and I was probably already ready to walk away, but I noticed on the boards that others had done the same before me and after. Well, some time after that I got back into Duolingo (to brush up on my Spanish) and the cool thing they have there are "streak freezes". And what they do is if you missed a day, they "freeze" that day, and let you continue on with your streak. Personally, I only ever "earned" them via XP, but apparently you can buy them too. Anyway, I think they'd make a great addition to PT. It'd be great if you could earn them, but even if you could only ever buy them with points, it'd be great to buy a few for the odd day that you miss or say if you go on vacation and have a no electronics while on vacation policy. People wouldn't be upset that they missed their streak reward, would be less likely to quit PT altogether, and in the end would spend more time/money on PT. I'm pretty sure they helped me stick with Duolingo this time and now I'm more into it than I ever was! Added 2023-04-06: -Add Option to Disable Compensation for Unsigned Draftees - I wish you could turn off compensation for not signing draft picks. My thinking is, "why should my team have to draft further back this year because your team couldn't sign the player you drafted last year". That's on them, not me. Yeah, it could be argued it'll even out once those players re-enter the draft, but maybe not. Those players might flame out and my team might finish even higher thereby drafting even lower by then. -Rename "Skip DH when pitching" checkbox to "Forgo DH when Player is SP, Have Player Bat" - the option as labeled confused me and I've seen it confuse others as well. -Fix the Default Ballpark's RF Foul Pole - From the backstop view it looks like it's well into fair territory and makes far too many home runs look foul. -Fix the Outfielders from Phasing into the Outfield Walls - Sometimes players will phase through the default ballpark's outfield wall, like the X-Men's Kitty Pryde, to catch the ball. -Fix Weight for Facegens - LansdowneSt explained to me that the reason why some facegens look so bad is because OOTP adds too much weight to players as they age. Please stop this, or at least reduce it. -Delegate Draftee Negotiations to AGM - I know you can turn off draftee negotiations entirely, but I'd like to just delegate the negotiations to my AGM instead so we still might not be able to sign a player. -Rename Game Menu to World Menu - Too often people get confused when others are referring to the "Game Menu" or the "Game Settings". OOTP itself is a game, OOTP refers to worlds as games or leagues, we're playing out games between teams, and yet the game menu is about aspects of our game world. Just call it World to stop the confusion. Or Universe. Anything so we're not calling everything "game". -Rename File Menu to Main or OOTP Menu - Why is it called the File Menu? Yes, part of it has to do with our files, and that part I'd move to the World Menu, but half doesn't. Call it Main or OOTP and only put stuff in it that has to do with OOTP in a broader sense. -Display Trades in Point Form - I wish OOTP would display what players were traded to what teams in point form like you normally see on tv or online. You can keep the text intact if you want, just re-list it in point form after. I really dislike reading a trade article trying to pick out the details when the conventional way is so much easier and faster to see. -Fix Overall Ratings, Current and Potential - they're totally out of whack for some players. Sometimes not so great prospects have better current overall ratings than superstars and that's just not right. I get it, we need to be looking at the base ratings, but the overalls should make some sense. -Fix Promotion / Demotion Arrows - They rarely seem to be what they should be. I don't think anyone who is struggling at a certain level should be recommended for promotion or vice versa yet that happens all the time. -Superimpose Lock Icons with Promotion/Demotion Arrows - Once the arrows get fixed, I'd really like to know what the AI thinks should be done with the players who are locked to their teams yet the lock icon shows instead. If you can't show both at once, I'd rather see the arrows. -Set Information Icon Priority - It seems like the info column that shows whether a player is tired or not, etc, could often show a different icon if the one already being shown wasn't. I think we should be able to set the priority and even be able to set what gets shown at all. We might even be at the point where we might want dedicated columns so it's not an either/or. -Reorganize Menus - Might there be a way to let us set up the menus like the League Menu? I find there are several pages listed I never visit while there are plenty of pages I do visit that aren't listed that you can only get to via another. -Hyperlinked Team Names in Headers Under Player Names - When I'm looking at a minor league player I often want to go to their team page by clicking on their team name, but you can't. Yes, you can do it from the left panels, but not the headers, which I keep trying to do for some reason. -Too Many Fielders Make Catches With Their Backs to Catchers - Of course it a fielder is running away from the play they'll have their back to the catcher, but too often players will not move very far at all but they'll turn their back to the play and then catch the ball. If you did that IRL you'd be sure to get a mouthful from someone. -Trade Demands - Is it in the game? I don't think it is. It should be, right? My teams usually aren't bad enough that you'd expect a lot of trade demands and I like to jettison players who are unhappy, but I've definitely underutilized players according to their expectations yet I'm pretty sure I've never seen mention of a trade demand. -Umpires! - I'd like to see umpires with different tendencies. I'd like to see a Bill Klem, widely considered the greatest umpire ever. A Pat Hoberg, one of the most accurate umps ever. An Ángel Hernández, an umpire everyone thinks sucks. A Bob Davidson, aka Balkin' Bob due to his liberal use of the balk rule. A Joe West, known for many things including his proclivity for ejections (.028 / game). But maybe most of all, I want a Ron Luciano, maybe the most entertaining ump ever (check out his book!). Allow Scouting While Using "Act As" - I like to "act as" the GM/manager to only interject when I want, but when you do this, scouting tasklists don't work. I don't think "acting as" should necessitate the disabling of scouting. Keyboard Shortcuts - There should be a lot more, but at the bare minimum there should be a keyboard shortcut to save your game. Every so often for some reason the menus items no longer highlight for me and I can't click anything. All you can do is use Task Manager to end the program. I'd at least like to be able to Ctrl+S to save the game. Plenty of others have posted more ideas for this. Instant Replay - It'd be nice to get the odd instant replay by the umps on a close play to add a little drama. Save Video - F12 takes a screenshot. Why not have a way to record video without having to use a program like OBS? Add Option to Change the Date All-Star Game Voting Begins - I schedule my ASB about 70% through the season to give voters more stats to base their decisions on (August 3rd, 1987), yet the voting still begins early. MLB's is 55% through the season (July 11, 2023). I checked and my ASG voting started May 29th, while MLB's starts on May 20th. My Opening Day was March 24th, MLB's was March 30th. So I'm not sure how it's figuring out when to start ASG voting. Added 2023-05-26: This post has a theme, it's all about personnel hiring: Improve Personnel Response Notifications - A user can follow the Personnel > Pending Offers screen, but if a person disappears from the list it doesn't tell you whether they signed with you or elsewhere. Then you have to go to the team in your organization to see if they signed with you or not. You should get either a message on that screen or a popup telling you what happened regardless of whether they signed with you or not. Add Link to Personnel > Pending Offers Screen - From your team's Personnel screen there should be links to the PO screen. Otherwise, a user might have no clue it even exists, like I didn't for awhile. Add Organization Column to Personnel Views - I'd like to be able to see/filter whether a person is in my organization, be it be in the majors or minors, via the Staff Search screen. Auto-Select from Drop-Down the Team You Made an Offer For - When you're trying to hire personnel and they say they want more money and you go to make them a better offer, the drop-down doesn't always default to the team you previously offered them to work for and you have to frustratingly re-select it time and time again. The drop-down should remember the team. I'm not sure I've ever hired a person for a job I didn't mean to hire them for, but I imagine I probably have. If someone did, and realized they did, I'm sure they'd be pretty angry about it. Streamline Personnel Hiring - I'm not sure how this should be done, but I find it frustrating that the personnel screens are separated between all your teams (major and minor), your Staff Roles screens, and the Personnel > Pending Offers screen. Maybe simply including all your organization's teams' pending offers on your major league team's Current Offers section of the Staff Roles screen would help. Show What Ratings Are Most Important / Highlight Important Columns - I had to read a lot about personnel, make a lot of notes, and make a multi-tabbed spreadsheet importing several OOTP reports that turns words into values and ranks them all to make personnel hiring decisions easier. This part of the game is pretty tedious, but as far as I can tell it's really important to hire the best personnel you can. I shouldn't be made to feel that all I've done is necessary. It's nice that your GM makes recommendations, but they should say why they recommend that person. Obviously a good "Teach Hitting" rating is critical for a Hitting Coach, but what else is? Answer: Dev+Mech? Anything else? I don't know. What about Field Manager, Bench Coach, Base Coaches, etc? I think I know, but even with all my research I'm still not sure. Simply highlighting the important columns on the Free Agent Personnel and Staff Search screens would help. Prefix Text Data with Numbers - The colours help, but it's not immediately clear which data are better than others (Decent is apparently better than Average, who knew?). For example, instead of just displaying "Legendary", show "9 - Legendary"; instead of "Decent", show "5 - Decent", etc. Also, give the option to choose just numbers instead of text for the columns for those who might have a lot of columns and not enough room for the text. Improve Free Agent Personnel Screen Views - I don't think enough thought was put into many of the Free Agent Personnel screen views. Here are the columns I added to all of them (some views included some): Age (I don't want to be ageist, but as a tiebreaker you might prefer a younger guy in the hopes they won't retire as soon), Experience (of course all else equal, the more experience the better), Years (left on current contract, to see if they're available or how long your guys have left), and Reputation (of course you should drill down into the others, but for those who don't want to do that, hiring just based off of Reputation should be the tantalizing easy way out). Get rid of Nationality for those that include it (if you want, maybe factor language into team cohesion, but nationality should not matter). Added to Coaches: Personality, Positive, Negative, Style (remember "Coaches includes all coaches, including Bench Coach"), Hitting Focus, Pitching Focus. Separate the Coaches view into different views for the different types of coaches (1 for, BC, 1 for PC, etc) and only include the columns that are important for their jobs on their views. I think "Value Ratings" is supposed to be for the Field Manager. Make it simple for the user, rename it "Manager Ratings", and add to it: Personality, Positive, Negative, Style, and Relationships. If Hitting/Pitching Focus matter at all for the manager, add them too. If the "Favours" and the ratings vs stats columns aren't that important for the Manager, cut them (I include them only because I'm not sure). I think, but again I'm not sure, that the "Favours" and the ratings vs stats columns are all important for the GM so I include them in that view too. Merge Staff Search Views and Free Agent Personnel Views - I created all my personnel views on the Staff Search screen before I was familiar with the Free Agent Personnel screen and now that I want to use the latter I have to re-make them all. They're effectively the exact same screen, why not make the views work on both. Add Pre-Existing "Unemployed & Not Retired" Filter - Again, make things easier for the user. I think this is a pretty obvious filter most people would probably like to use so why not add it there so they don't have to. "Job Open To" Instead of "Preferred Occupation" - I often find that personnel who aren't looking for a Bench Coach job are often willing to take one and they're often better than those who are looking for that job. Let's not limit that filter to just people who would "prefer" that job. Have Personnel Say Why They're Not Interested - If you don't want the job I'm offering that's okay, but can you say why? Do you just not want to be a bench coach, you want to hold out for a manager position? Do you just not want to coach in the minors, you want a job in the bigs? Do you have something against our organization? If it's that, is it our record, is it our morale / cohesion? I'm not offended. I'd just like to know if I should consider you for something else or if I should look elsewhere. Added 2023-06-02: Another themed list, PT: In PT, Show Lowest Sell Price for Each Card in Collection Missions - JudP mentioned this, but I've wished for this for awhile too. In PT, Allow For You To Set A Sell Price For Multiple Players - JudP mentioned this as well, but it's something I've wished for too. It'd be similar to the auto-sell function in the settings screen, only that you could set it for specific cards, not just any cards under a certain rating. It'd also be best to be able to tell it whether you want it to sell every copy of a card you have, or only duplicates. In PT, Show Overall Rating on "Your Card Orders" Screen - Despite the card title, some times I have so many card orders I forget what card they are exactly and seeing the overall rating would help tremendously. In PT, Allow You to Sort the "Your Card Orders" Screen - Again, some times I have so many card orders, it would help to be able to sort that screen to more easily find the order I'm looking to check/update. In PT, Show Exact Last Sales Data the "Buy Order" Screen - The "Last 10" never seems to change so I think it's often less than the last 10. But even better, I'd like to see the actual last 10 sale prices with their time & date. In PT, Allow For You To Set How Many of A Card You Want to Buy - For speculation purposes. Say, for example, you think the live Mookie Betts card's rating is going to go up to the next level with the next update, you'd like to buy as many of them now as you can afford to sell them later for a profit. Yeah, it won't happen, but some people would love it. In PT, Quicksell at Highest Buy Price - rburgh posted this and I think it's a great idea. Only change I'd say is that the buy price must be QS/0.9 to make up for the tax and prevent those QS+1 buyers from getting it. Also Added 2023-06-02: Have PbP Mention Ties - When the play-by-play mentions a team's record, it doesn't mention the ties they might have. Customizable Lists for Expansion Cities - David Watts posted a great idea that it'd be much better if we got to shortlist what cities we'd be okay with the game expanding to, instead of random cities that aren't likely to get expansion teams any time soon. Yes, OOTP could hardcode that, but it'd be better if we could customize it for our own fictional worlds. Customizable Lists for Team Names - Similar to the above, I think it'd be great if the game could have a simple text file that we could edit that would list the team names (based on real cities) that we'd like the game to choose from. Just think, no more "Indianapolis Canucks" or "Memphis Tsunamis". Instead, you'd get names that others recommend, like the "Indianapolis Racers" and "Memphis Express", or whatever you chose to input. You could even use the data from the spreadsheet I already started that the community has contributed to as a starting point. Add More Pitch Types - Syd Thrift has a thread with more, but I'd like to point out a few here. The Sweeper has become very popular and is even on BaseballSavant now. It may or may not have been around for awhile, but if it did it previously fell into the Slider category. The Sweeper is a Slider-like pitch that breaks more horizontally and not much vertically whereas the Slider is now more a pitch that breaks some vertically and some horizontally. The Sweeper is thrown like a Curveball, but with a 2-seam grip. The Sweeper is about in between the speeds of a Curve and Slider. Some say it is just a rebranding of the Slurve, but it's not. The Slurve isn't in the game and I thought it was! It's not as popular as it once was (it's been around for awhile), but some pitchers still throw it. It is thrown with a Curveball grip, Slider velocity, and it typically doesn't break horizontally as much, while it does break vertically a lot. The Slurve has a reputation, perhaps unfairly, of causing injuries. There's also the opinion that "2-seamers" and Sinkers should be broken up. Their terms are often used interchangeably, but not all "2-seamers" really sink all that much (they're just slightly slower fastballs) whereas some very much do. I'd like to see them listed separately. And then you've got the famous Spitter for historical reasons, among several others. In PT Live Tournaments, IRL Injured Players Should Be Inelligible - Right now I have a pretty dominant tournament team, but a bunch of my best players are injured IRL, especially most of my perfect 100 cards. If they were inelligible, I think it would make it far more interesting for everyone as you'd actually have to make do with injury replacements instead of brainlessly sending out as many 100 perfect cards as you can. Add BABIP Split Ratings to Compare Player Screen - You can see a breakdown of most ratings in the Compare Player screen, but not the BABIP splits yet. Link to Free Agents Pending Offers from Team Screen - The Pending Offers screen is fairly useful, but you have to go to the Free Agents screen to see it, even though all your pending offers might have to do with extension offers to your own players. Assign WAR Values (and Scouting Scale?) to Typical Salaries List - On the Lg Settings > Financials screen there are typical salaries for the different levels of players. I'd like to see example WAR values next to each level. We could use FanGraphs'. Add HR% and H% Stats - So I understand why it's important to use K% and BB% rather than K/9 and BB/9, but why don't we also have HR% and H%? I thought maybe I didn't understand it correctly, maybe there wasn't a difference in rankings for HR% and H% like there is for K% and BB%, but I did up a spreadsheet and there are differences in the rankings. For example, Dylan Cease currently ranks much higher when ranking H% than he does when ranking H/9 (he's better than H/9 would imply). Meanwhile, Logan Webb currently ranks much lower (he's worse than H/9 implies). I'd like to compare all the pitcher ratings based on % now, instead of some in % (BB and K) and some per 9 innings (HR and H). Create a Configuration File for all the Settings - The game could really benefit from from all the settings being put into a configuration file of some kind. All you need is a file that includes names and descriptions for the settings, their options in comments, and then the selected option number. It would be great as you could just put the file into any saved game world folder you want and it would use those settings. It would also be so much simpler than trying to hunt down where the settings are in the game. Instead, you would just open the file in a text editor, Ctrl+F part of the setting name/description, change the option #, save, and you're done. OOTP already uses configuration files (.ini, .cfg, .conf) for a lot of settings (e.g., Start Screen > Settings > Troubleshooting). I'm just saying it should use it for all of them. Create an Evolution Settings Configuration File - Similar to the above configuration file for all settings, you could create one that would evolve your league using your own pre-defined settings. Just imagine a simple file where on one line you say at year X you want setting A to trigger on, but on another line you say at year Y you want that same setting to trigger off, and then on yet another line you instruct it to trigger back to off at year Z. Put the file into your folder, select the game to run n years, and watch it all unfold without having to stop it and make changes throughout. Add "Lock Settings" Checkbox - I think there's probably a lot of us who would like to lock in settings and not have them change from year to year (I like to play each season using 1987 settings, with some tweaks, and I've seen others here say they do something similar), it'd be nice to get a checkbox to check that would tell the game not to change anything unless we ourselves manually changed it. Fix "Staff Search" Link - I've often used the "Staff Search & History" selection from the Manager drop-down and no one is there nor shows up clearing the filters. And then I realize, oh yeah, that goes directly to the "Staff Shortlist" screen, not the "Staff Search" screen like it implies. The link should go to what it says or rename the link to "Staff Shortlist". Added 2023-11-06: Add a Draft Board / More Draft Pick Recommendations - I saw pizzacutter suggest this and I've wanted this for awhile too. You ask your scouting director for a recommendation and if you don't like their recommendation, that's all they've got for you (unless you specify a position). I'd love a top 10 or 20, something more than just one player. Teams have "draft boards" IRL, we should have one in the game. If Possible, Schedule Makeup Games On Shared Off Day Immediately Following Same Series - LGO pointed out to me that OOTP likes to schedule doubleheaders, instead of on a shared off day immediately after the same series, and I confirmed that. I realize there won't always be the opportunity, but it'd be better if they did that as opposed to not. Add RBOE (Reached Base on Error) to Batting Stats Views - CI (Catcher Interference) is there, why not RBOE? They're similar in that they're fairly rare events, but some batters shown an ability in them and both are becoming more frequent in recent years. Some people, including myself, even think it's long past time that they both be included in OBP. Add Multiple Stats to the Pitching Stats Views - I have a separate thread for this, but, in short, the stats I'd like to see added to the pitching views are: HR%, H%, Opponent wOBA, IP/G, Goose Eggs and Broken Eggs, SD/MD, xFIP, LDs, and GB%/LD%/FB%. The batting stats we have are pretty good, but I think the available pitching stats are lacking. Replace Previous Year's # When There Was No Previous Year - When starting a new league your league will show financials for the previous year when there obviously was no previous year for that league. I think it should simply relabel it predictions for the first year. Make Personnel Signings News Items in the Manager Portal - When you're waiting to hear back on personnel offers, it's important you get messages as to whether they've accepted your offer or accepted a position elsewhere, so you can offer a contract to someone else. However, the only way you can see those messages now is if you stay on the Transactions Log or Staff Roles screen when otherwise we'd probably wait for a news article or email about it. I've done this, waited to hear back, didn't hear anything, then realized they signed elsewhere and by that point there was nothing but dreck left. Correctly Label Suspended Games and Show Data Up Until That Point - I had a game that was suspended in the 7th due to bad weather. And now all I can see from the game is just that, from the Scores screen. But it doesn't show what the score was, the box score, game log, or anything else. And on top of it, it's labelled "Game Cancelled/Rescheduled" and now I'm left wondering, is the game going to be continued from where it left off or restarted? Update: It eventually was continued months later, but at the point it was cut short the labelling left me very confused. Option to Disable First Amateur Draft After Preseason - Whenever I start a new league and get to the first amateur draft, I wonder, what should I do about the first amateur draft? On the one hand I want more young players in the league, but on the other hand it doesn't seem fair to give any teams a step up acquiring a young player that they don't deserve. I'm thinking the best option might be to just cancel the draft, but I don't think there's a way to really do that once you've past the preseason. And yes, there's an option in the league settings to cancel it before the season starts, but I usually forget about it until I get to the draft. Default First Amateur Draft to Reverse of Opening Draft - The game defaults to creating the same order as it had for the opening draft and there doesn't seem to be any sense in that. Why should the team that got the first overall pick for the entire league also get first overall pick in the fist amateur draft? If anything, I think it should default to the reverse of the opening draft. I also thought about re-ordering it according to the standings order on the day of the draft, but it seems wrong to order it based on only a portion of the season. Others pointed out that they re-order it based on the power rankings and while that's probably better than basing it on standings, it's probably not realistic. Reverse of the opening draft is probably the most realistic. Add "Watch Replay" and "Highlight Reel" Buttons to Box Score & Game Log - When recapping my team's week I go to my team's schedule screen and open the box scores of any games I thought had something interesting. And it's nice that from the box score you can look at the game log if you want to look at something in more detail. But sometimes the game log isn't detailed enough and you want to then watch the replay. And to do that you have to exit out of those screens, go to the league's Scores screen, find the correct date, the correct game, and click on the watch replay or highlight reel buttons from there. I think we should add them to the box score & game log to cut out all that jumping around. Display Win Expectancy In-Game - I love the Win Expectancy Chart that shows up in the box scores, but I'd love to have a widget or something in-game that shows the current Win Expectancy and the WPA of the very last play. It'd give you a better idea of the rollercoaster ride as the game is playing out. Display Leverage Index In-Game - Similar to the above Win Expectancy and WPA, I'd love to see the Leverage Index of the current situation. It would add more drama to the game seeing the Leverage Index getting higher and higher, unless the score differential becomes larger, but in general I think the LI gets higher as a game goes on. In PT, Add Mass Select Radio Buttons to "Your Card Orders" Page - As it is now, if you want to cancel multiple old buy/sell orders you have to click "Cancel Order", move your mouse to the center, click "Okay", move your mouse back to the right, "Cancel Order", move your mouse back to the center, click "Okay", and on and on for as many as you want. It'd be so much better if we just click on radio buttons to the left of each entry and then click "Cancel Order" once. I've given up at times it's so annoying. Save Game & Leave Option In-Game - I'd like to save my game in-game and leave (real life happens sometimes), instead of leaving the computer not knowing what might happen. But you can't. Once you're in-game you have to finish it otherwise the game might crash and you'll lose what you've played. For some reason I thought you could do this if you disabled "simulate world in background" option, but when I did I got a "simulate game" option, not a "save and leave" like I expected. Maybe it was once an option? Put the Team vs Team Report in the Lg > Reports Menu - To get to the Team vs Team report you currently have to click on the league name, select Reports & Info, select any report, click on the "Select League Report" pull-down, and select Team vs Team. Why don't we make it easier to find by just including it in the Lg > Reports menu? Why force the user into so many steps? It's one of the most interesting reports OOTP has. Add All-Time Team vs Team Records to Almanac - Self-explanatory and others have requested it too. Realistic Expansion Cities - If you let the game expand on its own you'll often see it expand to cities that aren't likely to get an expansion team any time soon, if ever. I'd think it'd be better if the game expanded to cities based on their current odds of getting a MLB team. This is obviously for real leagues, not fictional. A previous entry asked for a file that we could enter what cities we want the game to expand to, which could work for real or fictional leagues. Even better, allow for weights to be attached to each city so that you'd often see the game expand to say Nashville or Charlotte and only very rarely to like Honolulu or Wichita. Realistic Team Nicknames - I started a crowdsourced project where users are giving their recommendations for nicknames based on real cities. It'd be great if the game could have a file that these nicknames could be put into and then when the game expands it could use one of the nicknames from the file associated with the city, instead of some random nickname that likely has nothing to do with that city. The file would obviously be user-editable as well. Maybe include weights for this too. Added 2024-07-27: I just finished a postseason and am now in the offseason so those are going to be the focus of this batch. Team Comparison Screen - I already have a thread detailing this, but I'd love to have a team comparison screen similar to the player comparison screen. It would come in especially handy when previewing postseason matchups! Label Exhibition Games Somehow - Other than by exporting the CVSs and looking at them (in games.csv, game_type = 1), I don't see any way that exhibition games are labelled. They're not labelled that in the game logs, box scores, or highlight reel. When you're playing them out you will see an indication in the first line of the play by play, but it doesn't appear that replays can be saved of exhibition games so you can't later see an indictation via a replay. Include Regular Season Record for Pitchers in "Playoff Coverage" Screen - Currently it only lists their postseason record, but I find that rather meaningless since at the beginning everyone starts at 0-0 and even if they have a game or 2 under their belts in PS, it's still a terrible sample size. If you really want the PS record there, then just put their RS record before it like (16-12, 1-0). Postseason Series MVP & Full Postseason MVP - I love that we have player of the game awards, but I think it'd be great to have postseason MVPs for both individual series and the full postseason. Personal Catchers - I've never really cared that much whether this got implemented or not (I think it's more of a personality quirk than anything and while that's cool and all, it's not that important), but... I currently find myself in a situation where I have one catcher who is maybe the best defensive catcher in the league, but his bat really isn't that great, while my other catcher has a pretty decent bat, but he only has decent catching ability. And at first I was just rolling with the defense first guy, but then I switched to the offense first guy when our offense began to sputter. And now, I find myself deciding to start the defense first guy when my not so great SPs start (kind of like how knuckleballers often had a personal catcher) while going with the bat first guy when my better SPs are starting. So I find it would actually be kind of nice to assign a personal catcher. Different Stances and Windups - Syd has a thread on this, but I agree, having some variation in the stances and windups would be nice. Bench Coach Advice In-Game - Replay Dugout had the idea and I really like it! Add Catcher Framing Runs to Year End Award Stats - Framing Runs might be the most important stat for catchers now and it's not among the many stats listed for catchers on year end awards screen. MiL Personnel Offers & Signings Need to Show Up In Inbox & Current Offers - When you offer personnel minor league contracts, they don't show up in your minor league team's staff roles screen under current offers which is where I think they should show up. And when they do sign, they don't show up in your manager's office inbox widget which is probably most people's home screen during the offseason and where they probably wait for important messages. Instead, you have to know to visit, and keep visiting, the league's personnel pending offers screen to see updates or your minor league team's transactions log. Neither of these screens are easy to get to unless you create a bookmark to them and neither are probably the first place one would look to see these offers and signings. I really think they should show up in your manager's office and your minor league team's staff screen as those are the two places you'd probably look and wait to see news from. And I checked, I do have all organization news turned on. Add Trade Availability to Views & Filters - I don't believe there's anywhere that you can actually see who is on your untouchables list. I'd like the ability to confirm that quickly without clicking on player by player and looking at their Contract screen. Add Sort and Filter to Pending Trade Offers - I'm receiving so many trade offers, but the offers are seemingly ordered randomly and I can't filter out the rejected offers. Every time I look at the screen I have to rescan every single one of them because I can't order or filter them. Add More Players to Top Prospects and Top Players Widgets - On the Meet the Team the widgets for the top players only lists 3 each. I wish it was like the Staff widget and had a scroll bar to show more than 3. I think each list should be at least 5, maybe 9. Last edited by kq76; 07-27-2024 at 07:56 AM. |

-Ability to Rename ASG Teams - We can't rename all-star teams and if you don't have 2 sub-leagues the game names them AS1 and AS2.
I'm sure everyone has stats they like to pay attention to and others they wish were never thought up.

Just add all the stats that baseball reference uses.
Make everything filterable and sortable. keep the HTML 'reports' for people who want static. But create filterable, sortable, groupable versions. Ie Transaction Log Last edited by fredbeene; 10-18-2022 at 05:55 PM. |

I usually play historical, so this wouldn't be an issue for me - but I would love the ability to make a team picture of the All-Star teams.

-Rename Fastball Pitch Type to "Four-Seamer" - I understand that OOTP often means four-seamer when they say fastball, but there are a number of different types of fastballs (four-seamer, two-seamer/sinker, cutter, splitter) and I wish they were specific with it like they are with the others.

Stamina should be split between STARTER and RELIEVER.
Strat has that. Mop up men usually have something like 5-6 for starting and 3-4 for relieving (out of 10) |

I still think expressing them as pitches or innings might be better, but yeah, they should probably have 2 stamina ratings.

Didn't we see outfield distance for fictional stadiums in older versions of the game?

I'd like to keep this thread focussed on the points I bring up. Otherwise, we might as well not have separate threads at all, just one big thread full of random posts, and I'm not a fan of that. I like being able to quickly choose what to read based on a title alone.
I totally understand wanting to bring more attention to one's own ideas and so if someone wants to PM me to ask me to reply to a post of theirs then I'll try to do that. I do like reading others' wishlists, especially if they explain what they mean (EDIT: aks does). I wholeheartedly welcome posts like fredbeene's where in response to one of my points he pointed out that another game has 2 staminas (I love it when someone shows me an even better way to do something) or how oldfatbaldguy asked if we used to see outfield distances (I don't remember). EDIT: I've now replied to aks's thread. He brought up a lot of interesting ideas! If you like my thread, you should check his out too.

-Option to Save Sub-Folders, That Don't Overwrite Files (news/Almanac, dump, import_export, etc), Outside of .lg Folder - I like to manually backup and 7zip my lg folder periodically outside of the game (I've had some backups using the in-game backup function go bad), but when you do this it saves the same files every time.

It is also a dropdown in your front office. I use it on my owner's page, ie front office> owner. It is also available to display on the front office tab it you don't want to bury it under the owner tab. No problem if they add a tab, just wasn't sure if when you requested this if you knew the rule 5 info is there and available almost anywhere you want to put it. ![]() Last edited by Sweed; 11-16-2022 at 10:30 AM. |

Thanks! Rule 5 eligibility isn't arbitration eligibility though. I'm talking about when players go to arbitration hearings to determine their contracts once they have 3 years of service time, not whether you have to be worried about other teams plucking them away from you.
The way I do it now is either use the Salaries report or sort by Years Left using the Fin'l Info View. It's not that big of a deal (if I gave all these priority levels, this would be the lowest), I just realized there's so much screen real estate beside the Upcoming FA tab, why not have an Upcoming Arb Eli tab too (and maybe others). And in case someone is wondering "why bother paying attention to these players?", the reason why it's important is because if you're up against your budget those players are going to count against your $ available for extensions/FA and so you can free some money up by releasing these arbitration eligibility players that you don't really want.

Some of the later ones of these I posted awhile back in the beta Project Tracker, but I'm re-posting them here to maybe give them some traction as I believe that much in them.
-Yankees' Monument Park / Dodgers' Ring of Honour / Blue Jays' Level of Excellence - I'm not a fan of retiring numbers, but I do like other ways of honouring a team's past greats. -Customizeable Games Split - I'd like to be able to set a certain # of games to view the stats from. -Add MLB's new (as of 2022) 13 pitcher limit - Yes, there are settings that will allow you to set a typical number of pitchers, but you can't actually force teams to carry a max of 13 pitcher.

-Add Option to Disable Compensation for Unsigned Draftees - I wish you could turn off compensation for not signing draft picks.

This post has a theme, it's all about personnel hiring:
Improve Personnel Response Notifications - A user can follow the Personnel > Pending Offers screen, but if a person disappears from the list it doesn't tell you whether they signed with you or elsewhere.

I would add in something also about how hard a pitcher is throwing, as anecdotal evidence suggests pitchers in earlier years paced themselves and only threw as hard as needed at any given time, as opposed to the modern era where they seem to throw full power all the time. Perhaps these two things combined would better replicate the degree to which pitchers threw complete games. |

Another themed list, PT:
In PT, Show Lowest Sell Price for Each Card in Collection Missions - JudP mentioned this, but I've wished for this for awhile too.

Have PbP Mention Ties - When the play-by-play mentions a team's record, it doesn't mention the ties they might have.

Baseball Team Names — A Worldwide Dictionary, 1869–2011 by Richard Worth (McFarland & Company, 2013). A free Google Books preview of the book can be viewed here. The book organizes the names by location, with the different nicknames used by the teams in that city/town listed by year(s) used, along with the league the club was in.
