Will it auto-update if I add the shortcut?

When I pre-ordered a week ago, there was no option to pre-order the Steam version. Is there any way I can exchange my activation key for a Steam code? (Or get refunded for my non-Steam purchase to get it on Steam)

It means I can as a manager I can ask my coach to use his strategy settings instead of setting them myself. At least that's what's possible now, so I think that's what is meant by that

UPDATE 2: The game is now also available on the Epic Store!

Hey folks,

since we are still waiting for Steam to approve the game (it's stuck in their review queue), we have decided to launch the Fastspring version of the game now anyway.

Pre-order customers will get an email with the download links now, but I'll post them here as well.

In case you have missed the news, Perfect Team will not be available in the launch version. For more information, please see here: Perfect Team delay news

For those of you who have already preordered the game via our Webstore and played the public beta, here are the download links for the final release build 23.1.45. Simply download and install over your current installation. If you have not installed the beta, simply download, install and buy or activate from inside the game as usual.

Download Links Fastspring Version

Thank you so much for your patience and your support!

I'm rarely sleep in but I'm glad I did. The Steam release just came out before I got up.

I see a few people asking about refunding and buying with Steam, is there any benefit to buying it from steam then off the website here?

Thanks guys! Bought it from Steam this morning when I got their email and I can't wait to try it, but I have some more FGs to do to complete the 1902 season before installing the game... hoping it will be somewhere tomorrow.

Highly doubt it's doable since you got the three days early pre-order bonus that we don't get on Steam... of course I'm not the boss but if I was no way I'll refund someone after the three days window.

From my experience the only difference is with the update: if you purchased directly you must download the complete game eveytime there is a new version release and if you bought it from Steam the process is automatic.

The latest version I bought directly is OOTP14 so maybe it's different today...

Does this Build fix the FaceGen issues Mac users are experiencing? Specifically that the FaceGens on Mac are a significantly lower res?

I've never seen a benefit to Steam. I've seen people mention the auto-update but that's not really a benefit to me.

Plus, if you buy direct from OOTP, they get all of your money and don't have to give a cut to Steam (or Epic or Apple).

Maybe people like having all games in one place? I’m not sure; I’ve always bought direct and always will.

I like the portability. I'm a fairly senior SysAdmin, I use a LOT of different computers. (I've got my Surface running OotP, my old Dell 2-in-1 running Twitch watching a YukarinKazami stream from yesterday, my old desktop that I turned into a media server connected to my TV playing YouTube for my 9yo, my work laptop VPN'd into the office and running 6 or 7 ssh sessions monitoring a multi-day backup I'm doing and my gaming PC is occupied by my 9yo who's playing Fortnite. This is a normal day for me.) I like to have the game available wherever I happen to be and on whatever device I happen to be using, and not having to worry about "is my 'license' at its limit?" I buy direct so I can test it a bit early, but then I buy on Steam the day of release and use that.

Edit: and don't discount the 'automagical updates' feature. I have a LOT of computers and programs to manage, even just in my home. Not having to worry about updates is a BIG BIG deal for people like me.

Yeah, I'm sure there are users that like having all of their games in the same place, though it's now why I buy from Steam.

The two biggest benefits for me...

Steam Workshop. Subscribe to mod, have it auto-installed. Sure downloading and manually installing is not particularly hard but auto is easier. For those that are not comfortable installing mods I would recommend Steam.

Updates are not only automatic but they also tend to not overwrite most things you've modded. A Steam patch is "old school" as it only copies in files that have changed. No more backing up my stadiums, sound files, etc. before patching my game . Yes, on occasion something unexpected does change but it's easy enough to get those files out of one of my league backups I'm anal about keeping. Only time I got burned last year was one time they left in some camera locations from a test build that should not have been a part of the patch. Pulled the ootp.3d files from a backup and all was good.

I understand the Steam takes a cut from OOTP reasoning, but I think Markus is fine with that. The visibility it gives them is more than worth the cost or they wouldn't do it. Add in too that you cannot write a review for OOTP on Steam unless you bought the game there. Having users of many years posting reviews there is a good thing and is requested and appreciated by Markus every year.

The cost that I don't like? Not getting the game 3 days early and watching everyone here having a good time as I sit and wait.

Without Steam, I would never have known about the game. But since OOTP23 I buy directly because the game runs all day and I can't start another game on another PC if OOTP runs via Steam ;-)
