I've seen a player or two in OOTP 21 that would have a great team, hitting and pitching, yet somehow they are able to set the pitching so they give up 1500 runs in a season. They were having 19-16 type games. So they don't look like they are tanking, except the couple '41' pitchers have most innings but still had 100s and 99s on staff.
I know they we getting tons of PP. I don't know how they did it.

if your a new player starting out, is it better to auction off the live gold cards you acquire and open more packs?

Buying packs is never a good idea. If you want to open packs, do the first-15 live collections that give gold packs, and maybe some of the name game sets.

I pulled a silver out of a pack i won from my first tournament win earlier. Its going for almost 3000 on the market. would it be better to sell that and use the points for bronzes? |

It really depends on how you want to play. Buying packs is suboptimal to be sure but some find it more fun than playing auctions and if you’re going to go that route, don’t touch gold packs. Go with special packs first if that’s an option and then do standard. No, you don’t get the gold but the chances of getting any other card value is pretty much the same. As gold cards tend to be worth around 1000PP and gold packs cost 2000PP more than standard packs, I think you’re better off getting a couple more spins at the wheel of fortune.
Of course, if you want to maximize efficiency and all that, do the auction house pretty much exclusively.

I think buying a pack once in a while early-on, say the first 3 weeks, is not a bad idea as the prices now are high, so you can *limit* the damage, and it is kind of fun; but it is not a good way to go for Free-to-play in the long-term as others have mentioned. And the early live team collections would be your 3rd way. So, if you are say one bronze away from a gold back, it might be worth buying it, as you know you should be able to cover the cost with a gold that you do not plan to keep. And do not forget about the new perfect drafts, as a possible way to earn some extra perfect points. -Cal |

earning PP as the weekly season slogs along is slow. i was hoping to acquire packs to get some bronze and a whole lot of iron out of the way. its a catch 22 on the missions. cant get packs without PP. cant get PP without packs.

It's a slow process. The surest way to mess up your game is to be impatient. I make 10 packs a day from tournaments, twitch drops and challenge mode and that is enough to build my team SLOWLY. The landscape of the live missions will change with the next update (~May 1). Cleveland WILL have more than 28 players and most of them will be irons.

That is the disadvantage for my FTP perfect team; I don't use Twitch and only have the focus for one franchise team, so no challenge mode (use other settings). I will go a couple days with no packs earned, but then win 2. |

I play FTP and here is how I've made my PP this year:
1. Churn though packs selling all live cards and high value non-live, using undervalued non-live cards to fill my roster. I calculated an expected pack value of 2k on day one, dropping down to around 1200 after a week. Churn, churn, churn for upside cards. (Week 1) 2. Churn until I hit something big (100 Buffington, sold for ~150k), which happened on pack 240 or so. (Week 1) 3. Use proceeds from Buffington to finish live rewards, buying undervalued cards first. (Week 2) 4. Sell ALL live mission rewards, before their value drops too much. (Week 2) This plan yielded about 400k. I've now got 200k in PP and about 200k worth of Diamonds that I think will go up in value, live rewards whose prices have plummeted, and some Mets that I just wanted (LGM)

4a - Buy those live mission rewards back before their value shoots up again when everyone who sold them remembers they need them to complete a later mission.

I still think the prices will keep flying down. In 6 months, that Cy Young might be like 40k.

Here's a link to the Q&A with Kris talking about locking reward cards for Franchise Heroes

Yeah, it's been said for months that the rewards from those would be used in the next line of missions.

So i got super lucky and pulled a perfect DeGrom from a gold pack from a completed mission. But its a live card. Can he lose his perfect 100 rating if he has a poor season as the weeks wear on?

he could potentially, yes, but DeGrom is about as safe as a pitcher could possibly be. It's very unlikely IMO.
