Free to play tips?

This season I'm going to play one team that I occasionally infuse with some modest amounts of cash, but I'm going to play the other two teams as free to play.

What tips do you have? The missions seemed to have made getting the best value from cards in the auction trickier and time consuming...

Should I immediately auction most of my extra cards? Use the average recent auction value? I don't want to spend hours doing this...

Other tips? Best ways to quickly earn PP?

I never really did tournaments. Any value in those?

I enjoyed collections in the past but should I focus on selling auctioning cards instead?

(BTW, I didn't play much Perfect Team 21 as I lost interest in MLB due to pandemic shortened season so I'm a bit rusty with all this...)

I am not a huge tourney player, but the amount of packs you can win really helps F2P teams.

Could not agree more. They're essentially free packs (you only have to do minimal roster maintenance for the non-cap ones) that you earn much more quickly than the equivalent points your team *may* accumulate.

What level provides the most value in terms of building teams for low PP and acquiring packs quickly? Iron only? Bronze and lower? Silver and lower?

Free Packs can be generated every 3 days in Challenge Mode. They add up over time, and it takes one lucky draw to justify any amount of time spent. Last year, mine was a card I sold for 300,000 points and bought 6 perfect cards with the proceeds of.

Buying points is best done $100 at a time, but wait for sales. They are timed at the same time as Steam sales and you can save 30%. 40% at Christmas and Lunar New Year sales.

Tournaments are best bang for buck. Iron and Bronze are (or will be soon) cheap to assemble and if you win the packs are practically free. In PT21 I was able over 1 year of play to win over 3000 packs! Converted to points that's over 2.5 million points. Convinced yet?

Watch their twitch streams. You can make up to 5 packs a day, but not 35 per week as they don't stream every day. You will also learn a lot from watching them particularly Angered_Unicorn (Tuesday afternoons) and DRC/Kidnies (Thursday nights)

Don't be in a hurry.

Live missions in about 2 months time are another great value. Live cards will be downgraded and new players will get cards, many of them irons. You should not have to spend more than 1000 points to complete each team, if you are patient. You will get 1 fee gold pack per team and 39 nice cards, absolutely free, because the gold pack is worth minimum 1025 points.

Yep. The 1927 Yankees are pretty good for this purpose - LOL!

It's been since OOTP 20 but I think you just start playing a game in challenge mode and the packs appear every few seasons? Like I said the 1927 Yankees are great for this purpose - LOL!

Good advice - thanks!

What is the best way to evaluate good Iron and Bronze cards for tournaments in the auctions? Does the value correlate to how good the card is for tournaments or to collection missions?

The cheesy way is to enter a bronze Bo7 with anything and start copying the winning teams! The grinder way is to enter with anything and start downloading data. The smart way is to watch Angered_Unicorn on Tuesday afternoon. He does all the downloading and ranking and you just watch and take notes and earn twitch drops.

Typically bronze cards go for less than 100, although the "meta" cards in 21 like Ozzie Smith would set you back a 1000 for a long time. Nothing to do with collections. Prices are absolutely sky high now, but OTOH tournaments should be exceptionally weak because the "meta" has not been established. But, then where is YOUR edge? I don't have one, so for now I'm slow playing my team with twitch drops which don't start until Monday. I'm also entering PD which is new for 22, because it's free, you don't have to buy cards and 90% luck to win one.

During the first week or two, if you pack a big historical diamond or perfect, SELL IT. Cash in and use the profits for more packs. These first few weeks are really the only time where packs are viable.

On one of my teams, I pulled a 100 Jeff Reardon, and sold it for 150k. Turned it into 138 packs, which led to several completed collections and two more historical perfects (Johnny Vander Meer & Roger Maris), 2 live perfects (Betts & Soto), and lots of other goodies. The dupes can be resold for a good bit of points right now, so take advantage while it lasts.

Also, until you have your cookie cutter tournament comp assembled (which will take time, cookie cutter cards ALWAYS sell for drastically higher than average level value...usually over 1k + per on bronze level, sometimes also iron)...GET INTO DRAFTS!

Free and you have equal footing with everyone else. I've alraedy figured out the best draft strategy that seems to work for me and won 3rd/4th place prize support both a 32-team AND 64-team draft tournament (the latter was an SE Correa card, which surprising must be SUPER rare cuz it's not even showing a last 10 sold average value yet....wonder if it could flip for tons?). Trying a 128-team 50k PP tournament next.

You only have to do them one at a time (unlike normal tourneys which you have to spam constantly to make them worthwhile, like seriously the people that make this a bankroll system spends HOURS on the day doing NOTHING ELSE..just a warning!), but they do take some time to set up your team if you're not just gonna have the AI stay on full auto (your choice), less than or equal to an hour depending on how in-depth you're getting, factoring in draft time. Also, it's timed for the drafting itself, so don't enter it then realize you hafta go pick up the kids from school in 5 minutes or something. It will NOT auto finish and you'll just have an incomplete roster that you have to wait to lose it's X number of games and be booted so you can enter a new one. Also, once you enter one, you can't leave it. So make sure you enter the one you want to be in.

But yeah...honestly? To hell with trying to fight cookie cutter whales with no life in tournaments. Go drafts. Far easier and nowhere near a hasher level of competition since every team is, basically, on equal footing and it just comes down to who's team performs better than who's.

Easiest way to make money playing f2p:

Use iron pitchers. Sell every good pitcher you get.

Slowly build up PP by buying diamond/perfect hitters off the AH, preferably ones that can play good defense.

Just keep building up your hitting while keeping your pitching awful. You'll rake in the pp. My f2p team last year was filled with FOTF cards almost top to bottom by the end.

I am a free to play player and I just finished the live series for the second time. On one of my accounts I pulled a 100 Hooks Dauss and that helped me complete the missions. For the other team I pulled 2 Kirk Gibson's and used that to fund the collection. Along the way I had to wait because I had to always sell the SE rewards when I got them so that I was able to get some PP for the next teams. Make sure to always have your 3 tournaments full and I never did it but you can also have 1 perfect draft going at the same time so you have the 3 tournaments and 1 perfect draft going as much as possible just so you can get some pack rewards. The first thing I did was make sure my bronze and iron teams were good. That is important because those will be your pack earners so get some good ones and enter as many tournaments as possible and then just hope for some good pulls and that will help you on you way. Good luck
