Just out of curiosity, what's the benefit to owning both versions?

Currently have 21 on a windows systems. I have imported real player pictures and have created a couple of my on schedules on it. If I get a standalone game it would be easy to transfer them to the new game. If I go with steam, can I move the pictures and homemade schedules over to my steam game?
If I later get a mac system, will my steam game run with my homemade schedule and the players pictures that I had with my windows system.
Since there is no Thanks button, thanks in advance.
everything will transfer. I went from having OOTP on Xbox Game pass to buying it on steam. everything moved over. Steam is good for automatic updates, means you don't need to pay attention to them. Steam will update your game if an update comes out.

Why would you want to buy and over priced mac? Macs are not for gaming!

lol, joking aside, I have no idea if transferring from PC to MAC works.

It does, the file structures are the same.

OOTP is the only game I play. I think a Mac can handle it. I have had various types of computers since a TRS model 3 about 40 years ago. I think Apples are usually overpriced, never had an IPhone, IPAD, etc. except for a 2011 MAC that was the most reliable computer that I ever had. Maybe I just got lucky. Got a windows machine (surface book 1) 3 years ago since it was powerful but battery runs down fast and getting detachment errors so thought I might try a MAC again.
Yes, if I ran high intensity games I would probably get an ASUS with Ryzen or maybe an alienware system.

Looking at my receipt email, it has the logo for 21. And 21 is mentioned throughout. Did I order the wrong version?

This is my favorite time of year! Just pre-ordered my copy and I can't wait! Each year the team at OOTP Developments somehow make OOTP just that much better and a must have. Thank you in advance for OOTP 22. Let's play ball!

None really. I bought the Steam version last sale after we got new owners. Last time they changed licensing partners it caused issues with past versions of the game, with Steam I avoid all that so if 10 years from now I still feel 21 was the best OOTP I can easily reinstall it on Steam, whereas the Standalone I may run into issues

As always looking forward to the new release. I hope that this company who purchased Ootp doesn’t have a major influence on the game we’ve grown to love.

I understand that the money is all in micro transactions and “free” games these days - I can’t help but feel that is the reason they pursued OOTP. So I am nervous to say the least...Hopefully the modes continue to support each other and everyone remains true to Markus’ vision.

I'd be willing to bet Pre-Ordering from longtime users would come without any new changes. Most of us already trust the reliability of what we buying anyway. As long as OOTP is made & I'm alive...I will be Pre-Ordering & also getting OTTP Go and all the bells & whistles that are extra for it. I just won't be playing PT this coming year. I want to get back to what made me come back year after year.

I just hope we finally have a complete Pitcher overhaul as well as a complete redoing of how fielding experience and ratings works. Enough of game created outfielders with no ratings for the infield, also enough of experience dictating where a player plays. I hate how because of how positions are rated, low experience can result in a higher rating depending on position. IE have your CF gain enough experience at LF and AI will see he's rated higher at that position and move him.

I, personally, probably won't be buying OOTP22, because, as I've previously stated, I'm not content with more of the same. I even find it offensive that you are shilling your product hoping that the sycophants will buy it sight unseen. However, this marketing method is poor form, even with your snarky, condescending 'no one is forcing you to pre-order.' That's obvious. Also, no one is forcing anyone to buy it at all. I'm not the only one stating these observations on these various forums. However, I am the one who doesn't care about what others think when you point out the emperor has no clothes. OOTP basically has a monopoly on the baseball management sim market, so it's no surprise that the organization can rest on its laurels and expect the fanboys to just keep opening their pockets.

ZZZZZZZZZZ wake me up when you realize you're done. Of all the things to make a stink about is pre-ordering. So you probably don't have permission from the little lady yet, huh?

I rarely Pre order games - OOTP is always the exception. Even when the new main features don’t fully appeal to me it’s still the best baseball sim out there. Sometimes they add features I don’t care for at first only to realize how much better it is...3D comes to mind for that.

I understand how some people would like to wait for more information, but I agree those of us who’ve been on this amazing journey for many years have the trust in ootp to not hesitate with preordering. To each their own.

I don't know that there is a benefit other than the 3 day head start. I have pre-ordered every year as far back as I can remember (started with OOTP2 but pre-orders weren't around then).

A few years ago, I checked out Steam after reading about it here and really liked using it, so for the past several years, I have bought both versions (same with FHM) as it was intimated that OOTPD benefits greatly from direct purchases and I really wanted the pluses of Steam but also wanted to support this small company that has given me countless hours of entertainment well beyond any monetary outlay I've made

Given the sale of OOTPD (good for Markus!), I won't be pre-ordering for the first time in a long time. I don't feel the same need to support OOTPD's parent company, so I have "Wishlisted" OOTP 22 on Steam and will buy it first day available.

Really love this franchise (the main game, not PT) and hope the team continues to refine it. If so, I'll be back every year, thankful for a new version of OOTP.

Its your choice

YMMV
Bottom line is it is your choice. Buy now based on reputation, wait until the features reveal and buy then. Some people wait until July or Christmas and hope there will be a half off sale as there has been in the past.

There is no reason to attack OOTP for offering a discount to generate interest. Just make your choice.

I also just read 9 pages of marketing....in a week or two, I'm sure I will be reading a 17 page thread about new features. Doesn't seem like a terrible strategy to me..

I am very excited as well, for years they've maintained that there was no reason to upgrade to 64-bit, glad they finally will
