Lightbulb OOTP 22 Pre-Order Q&A Thread

Hey guys,

this thread is for questions about the pre-order of OOTP, as announced here: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=324572

So, if you have any questions about the pre-order (not the new features of the game, which will be revealed soon), post here. I'll keep an eye on this thread to answer your questions

Cheers,
Markus

Is there a reason why we cannot pre-order on Steam? Not a big deal, just curious to why it's not an option for this year.

Update: 64 bit is official, day 1 purchase for me now. Best possible news I could see!

Figured out one new feature from the pictures - the "Continue" button is now rounded rather than trapezoidal.

We didn't do a pre-order on Steam last year either. For a game of our size, doing a pre-order on Steam does not work well in terms of launch day visibility & impact which is extremely important. So it's a business decision basically. The one year we did (I think it was three or four years ago) it did hurt us, so we decided to not do it again. Plus, there a couple of technical difficulties in accessing a beta for the pre-order bonus...

Here's a pre-order question: how can we make an informed decision whether to pre-order without knowing what the software features are?

Nobody forces you to make that decision right now Plenty of time left for us to show you more and for you to finally push the pre-order button. You know you will! (At least I hope so )

OOTP 22 pre-order vs Steam

So, I received the OTP 22 pre-order email today.

It said there would be no pre-order on Steam, but there will be a 10% offer for the first week.

What I am wondering about:

1. Do I need to order it via Steam? Does it make a difference if I order it separately and install it outside of the Steam client?

2. If I do order it via Steam, during the initial launch will I still get the Gold pack for Total Team?

It just seems kind of backwards to me for a company to announce a way to spend your money without telling you what you are spending it on.

Nothing personal, but no one has patience anymore do they? It was announced right off that there was gonna be a special reveal show for the new features.

1. No, it does not make a difference, you can even add the game to your Steam library afterwards. The only thing that will be missing are the automatic updates that Steam offers, so patches would need to be installed manually.

2. Yes, every team that registers within the first 7 days of the launch will get a Gold Pack.

It's not about patience. It's about commerce. Normally, you'd make your sales pitch, a la 'reveal show', before announcing your 'get yours now' campaign. What sensible person would order something before the reveal show? You're just buying something blind then.

This sensible person would when it comes to OOTP. I trust the reputation. I don't feel I'm buying anything blindly.

YMMV

Fair enough. I'm in the camp where I'd really need to see something compelling or at least evolutionary in order to consider buying the next edition at all, let alone preorder it. I also have concerns about having the reins turned over to another company in this day of mobile-focused development, but that's not a discussion for this thread. Once I see what the new version contains there might be something in it that will convince me to buy, and then I will be willing to pre-order, simply for the discount. But is to be something good and in the core gameplay, not the card-collecting loot box nonsense!
