The US will never decide that. They're going to be reeeally pissed with us for sensibly insisting on keeping the border closed, barring this unnecessary nonsense, and perhaps other exceptions that I'm not currently aware of.

There was one moron that intentionally touched everybody's **** (the Rudy Gobert Treatment all over) and was kicked out for it.

It is *possible*. If you get your crap together, which the US as a whole, sadly, has not. I have opinions, but I assume I don't have to explain why this is and have the thread disappear into the OT swamp, too.

That still means the league can play. Strict isolation rules. If Guy X doesn't wanna play, so what, he can stay home. I don't care.

Baseball must have a substantial interest in playing any sort of season, because there is no guarantee that Corona's defeated by '21 (and it puzzles me you'd infer as much in between all your doomsaying). And if there's no 2020 season, and no 2021 season, at some point a substantial amount of people might realize that they don't need baseball after all, at which point everybody's investment (either money or an entire life of training) goes down the drain. Corona can still be here three years from now. Nothing will survive being shut down for three years.
Is the Bundesliga located at many current ground zeroes for this infection? Nope. You seem to be assuming 100% intelligence and awareness of this virus, and how to slow it down or stop it. Unfortunately, due to enough idiots, we are dumb as rocks over here, when it comes to moving in this direction.

Also if Jacob deGrom, Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil, Michael Conforto, and Seth Lugo all decide that the potential risks of playing outweigh the benefits of opting to not play, you're cool with that? This might just be the beginning of players deciding it's not worth it, and the league could get really watered down to the point of becoming unrecognizable. Now throw in a 60 game schedule, rules that appear more T-ball-ish than MLB-ish, a postseason that welcomes more than half the teams, all in the backround of a generational pandemic, an economic disaster, not to mention social issues that desperately need addressing, and things start to look profoundly dumb in my eyes. You can dismiss all that if you like, but the players certainly aren't. There are times when the importance of real world issues outstrip the escape from them that baseball/entertainment provide, and I think this is one of them, but YMMV.

You keep having this ass-backwards. It doesn't matter if the teams play in a red state or green state (as per the CNN color maps of increasing/decreasing infections). The teams are suppposed to i-so-late. It is entirely possible for them to never visually see hotel personnel f.e.;

If the Phillies come to New York to play the Mets over the weekend,

- their rooms are deep-cleaned on Thursday,
- every room has an amount of bed sheets, towels, snacks etc. that is deemed appropriate,
- the keys are stuck in the doors when the players arrive,
- there is no other guest in the entire hotel,
- the Phillies shuttle to Citi and back in X number of buses every day, entering through the rear door to have no contact with the driver,
- play the game at Citi (and lose), and then immediately return to the hotel,
- retreat to their room and stay there,
- rinse repeat until they leave on Sunday afternoon,
- and then the rooms are deep-cleaned on Monday.

If the Mets host the Braves starting on Monday, they either stay in a different hotel or on different floors.

Meals are probably best had at the ballpark and delivered by catering. This can be done without any direct contact. Catering personnel delivers the meals wearing protective equipment, leaves, and picks up their empty containers etc. at night.

There ARE solutions for everything.

Travel from the US to the EU is banned, but I am not positive on the details. I wouldn't travel anyway, because I don't travel in non-pandemic scenarios, either.

Players opting out shall opt out. We'll decide in '21 whether we still love them.

Nice in theory. Works well in a vacuum. Life is not lived in a vacuum though, particularly human life.

No common areas in this hotel?
Lobbies?
Elevators?
The hotel is just going to evacuate all staff from before the teams arrive until a few days after they leave?

Better to wait until Wednesday or Thursday to clean the rooms, no?

Players are supposed to be cool with this situation for the next 4 months? And never break that bubble?

So, a chance for infection, then?

Unsurprising

Related; westheim seems like the type that would have me on ignore. So, ,maybe someone could point out some of the flaws in the bubble so they could address them

Why would any reasonable person change their opinion on a player who decided not to go through the above?

So the Bundesliga is a vacuum, and not human life. Got it.

I guess it made sense in your head, but how is that supposed to be an argument? By that reasoning, China would have to have 10 million dead by now.

China and Germany have controlled the virus. Thus, the United States has too

Fantastic logic there

It all depends in the RO of the virus. If it's greater than 1 the virus will spread, lower and it will, eventually, disappear.

The virus has a "natural" RO. For coronavirus, it's something like 2. So, something has to be done to slow the spread. That's where things like physical distancing, masks, testing, and vaccines come in.

The US failed on three of these four.

Rob Manfred says MLB will be ‘lucky’ to play 60 games this season

“The reality is that we’re going to be lucky if we get 60 games now, given the course of the virus,” Manfred told The Dan Patrick Show on Thursday.

Trout is now unsure if he’ll play.

https://sports.yahoo.com/mike-trout-...162609068.html

This trend - star players dropping out one by one - is, I think, what cancelling the season will look like. Enough of these and the owners will need to make a decision whether to bring it in or to play a year with AAAA players.

with players opting out, and others testing positive for covid-19.... is there an over/under on how many games they'll try to play before they just cancel it outright?

Buster Posey sitting out the season

Apparently, his wife and him adopted twin girls who were born prematurely and are expected to be in the NICU for some time.
