It was a tough fight from the beginning for the Manatees in Gold 303. In the end, we came up 2 games shy of the last wild card spot. Congrats to Marleigh's Bay City Boomers for winning our division and good luck in the playoffs! This was a really tough division, with the 4th place team 10 games over 500.

The Iron Manatees were left off the promotion list to Silver last season, posting the 2nd best league record but dropping the wild card game. This season, Bronze 254 paid for it, The armored sea cows ran roughshod over the league, amassing a league best 115 wins.

The Bapho Mets found their sacrificial offerings in Silver 257 to be accepted, rolling to a 99-63 record and winning the AC East by 17 games. The Devilgoats await the winner of the wild card game, and the chance to be promoted to Gold with their aquatic cousins.

Raccoons melted to 69-93, one game above the relegation zone, and it took a 3-run bottom of the ninth and a walkoff in the last game to keep the suckers clear...

Mets lost 10 of 11, dropped to 81-81, and didn't even get their usual loser wild card.

Good times. At least I don't have to log back in today.

D362 final standings. Seawolves sneak into final playoff spot, after competing in best division competitively, but will most likely be a spectator during the World Series.

Winnipeg favorite to go to the Perfect level next week.

thanks didn't realize anyone here was in the division or I'd have trash talked. Our bats got hot down the stretch and buying Rickey was a stroke of luck/genius. Our playoff luck has been lacking the last couple of seasons, i don't expect to do well if we get to diamond as our pitching is very under invested compared to our lineup

Pulled a perfect peak Rickey on the eve of the playoffs. Bit of a tough call who to drop for him, outside of peak Yaz my outfielders are mostly not that good. 100 Trout and 100 Bellinger are profoundly mediocre, 99 Mays is usually bad but had the best OPS on the team this year so I'll keep him around, and 94 Heilmann I've got in a platoon with Bellinger and backing up first base but I could just stick Posey at the first base backup position.

Ultimately I think I have to drop Bellinger, he's been marginally better over his career as a batter in diamond than Mays and Trout but he's a worse fielder and I think I can afford to lose a guy with rightie-heavy splits more since Yaz is a better one of those so I can just platoon him with Heilmann who's a crap fielder but I can stick him in right against lefties and get some damn good hitting out of him.

Here ya go. As expected the Pops got pasted by Wed after a hot start. Hung around .500 until Wed afternoon, then the wheels came off. Momentum/streaks were happening everywhere, after a long stretch where teams were going 4-6,5-5,6-4. The top teams took over, and the lower tier battled it out. There were some really good battles all the way till the final games.

The strength of top teams took over after all-star break. There were a lot of moves made across many teams to grab new cards, so have "dry powder" ready if you are going to hang.

Here are some FTP & Budget players takeaways from week 1 in Perfect League:

- A few Live SE cards still play but very very mildly. Bags hit 36hrs / 97rbis for me, but got very very streaky. Ichiro scratched a meager 1war. Maddux will still net you 2-3war, and a few lesser whales/budget guys still trot 99 Maddux out there. Berra picked up 1.5war. Blyleven from the pen had just above 0 war.
- Most teams are turning HRs to .9, so you could lean into it and not focus on hrs, and just OBP+Runs... you'll need runs.
- Defense especially up-the-middle is very very good. So if you have high contact/avoidk/eye guys, but they are slow (boudreau, kell, fox and similar) expect 2x the GDPs than normal. The defense all-around is really amazingly good.
- Not many teams are doing Lefty or Righty denial strategies, so you may be able to pull it off if you have cards.
- 68 Ozzie still raked in half a war in defense sub mode... woohoo. 86 Nellie Fox pulled in 1.4war.

For your amusement, here are the Perfect cards 4+war and negative war. Don't get me wrong I'd play most of those neg cards because they are very cool. (yes WAR is problematic...yes...yes). -- to quote Ferris "It is a piece of !@#$. Don't worry about it. I don't even have a piece of !@#$, I have to envy yours."

Thanks. Didn't realize it was not a full 30 team league.

Not sure how the Seawolves did it so far. But now that I am back online they are probably toast.

Over in PT20, the league-best-record White Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the sub-league series, lost the next 2, then ended up winning in 6, and will be playing in the perfect league series. The Golden Lions are currently up 3-2 in the sub-league series against the top seed Sea Wolves.

The former Detroit Deadball renamed Dum Dum Bengals, flying the flag of India, won the Stone League Championship after completing the Live Missions early in the week. Dum Dum is a city in India in the state of West Bengal, but since this is my 3rd time repeating the same strategy, Dum Dum is a play on words that reflects my lack of creativity. Only 1 player on the team, Gary Templeton, is not a live mission reward card.

The Tigers won their division on their 2nd trip to Gold level and also completed the Live Missions a few days before, but got tripped in the LCS to a slightly better team. The Tigers have 4 non-reward cards, Gary Templeton (I said I lacked creativity already), Mark Fidrych, Claude Osteen and Mike Adams.

Meanwhile, Collingwood stayed home and regretting my spending spree of last week, put most of the team on the block. Flying away from the Magpies are Jackie Robinson, Tommy McCarthy, Rickey Henderson and whoever else gets sold by tomorrow. Duke Snider is scheduled to be full time in 2031 for the first time since, well, actually it's the first time ever.

Golden Lions blew a 3-1 lead in the sub-league series to lose in 7 games, making them the second of my 3 teams who got past the wild card to do that.

PT21 White Tigers did win MVP (Lajoie, his third) and reliever of the year (Richard, his second) which is nice at least. Particularly odd awards since our strength was starting pitching. Paige did come in second in the Cy Young.

No, actually, it was the SE and my wallet will never open. (I may change my mind during Black Friday sale, if any). And as quickly as he came he is gone, as I play like Silas Marner:

from wiki: Marner travels south to [edit: Australia] and settles near the rural village of [edit: Collingwood] where he lives isolated and alone, choosing to have only minimal contact with the residents beyond his work as a [edit: Perfect Team General Manager] . He devotes himself wholeheartedly to his craft and comes to adore the gold coins he earns and hoards from his [edit: AH skimming].

As is their annual tradition, the Mets rolled over to be swept out in the Silver 257 divisional round. We lost a Maddux v Maddux coin flip, then a Carlton v Carlton coin flip, then the 3rd game was wholly forgettable, with the bullpen playing like, well, bull.
We look forward to joining our aquatic cousins in Gold next season.

Meanwhile, in Bronze 254, the Vermont Expos rallied from down 2-0 in the championship, abusing the Iron Manatee bullpen, to take a 3-2 lead, with games 6 and 7 in Manatee Cove. The armored sea cows posted a 7-2 game 6 win, forcing a Steve Carlton vs Steve Carlton game 7 matchup.

That game was everything one would expect, with Expo Carlton allowing 1 run on 7 hits over 8 innings, while Manatee Carlton served no runs on 4 hits in 7 1/3 innings before making way for Joe Nathan to earn the save.

THE CURSE

IS

OVER!

Well one of them anyway, there's still the minor issue of being 0 for 20 in playoff appearances in PT21. But for the PT20 Las Vegas White Tigers, the 36th time was indeed the charm, as they won P.440 in a sweep over the Jenkintown Yuengers. After a narrow 5-4 win in 12 innings in game 1 featuring 6 2/3 innings with 2 runs allowed by Richard, and a blown save by Gossage, we allowed just 2 runs in the next 3 games. Paige only went 5 innings in game 2, but allowed just 1 run on 3 hits, and four relievers scattered 3 hits the rest of the way. Maddux allowed 3 hits without a run in 8 innings in game 3, while Eck, Gossage, and Gagne all pitched in the 9th inning to preserve the shutout despite allowing a couple of walks. And in the final game, Bob Feller struck out 10 while allowing just 1 run on 4 hits, with Lemon getting the save.

Hopefully the PT21 White Tigers don't have to wait this long for their first.

Holy cow... was not expecting such a huge improvement / good fortune. This will be my first foray into Perfect league (started in January).
