Just a friendly reminder to folks who have been around the block a couple times now from those of us who have been around the block a looooooooooooooot of times (speaking as someone who's bought or been on the beta team for this game going back to version 3)... there are probably going to be a large number of brand new players of this game, and many of them are going to be asking some really dumb questions. I would respectfully submit that over the next, say, 2 or 3 weeks, if you believe that a question is really dumb and being typed in by some kind of mouth-breathing idiot, please err on the side of not expressing this on the forums. A couple of friendly reasons:

1. Sure, you are no employee of OOTP and it is a free country, but when a brand new person comes to this site and is treated rudely, the experience for them will reflect poorly on the brand. The more money Markus makes off of this game, the more devs he can bring in and eventually he'll be able to [s]afford me[/s] do all the things you want the game to do.

2. Just because a person has dumb questions doesn't mean they're a dummy in all cases. A lot of people get driven here because they yearn for a really good, accurate baseball sim, or because someone on FanGraphs mentioned using the game and they want to give it a try, or even because TotalBiscuit called it the ultimate baseball sim, they're inveterate Football Manager players who like baseball, and they want to test it out. These people may actually be smarter than you at things like how baseball or player development or sabermetrics works. If you lord over the one thing that you are (currently) smarter at then they are, you kind of start to look petty.

3. Some of these folks will stick around, and personally I would rather see people stick around because they had a pleasant experience than because they enjoy abuse and eventually the chance to abuse others.

Hey, I get that we're all nerds here (myself included), and that means that to a great extent we have a tendency to get peevish and/or superior when someone doesn't know something that we do know, especially when said knowledge is very easily obtainable in our experience. I am certainly not asking anybody not to post (well, maybe other than that kingcharlesxvii guy; look, buddy, the Milwaukee Brewers aren't even an actual baseball team). I'm just saying that perhaps, just for the next couple weeks, it's a good time to practice moderation. Perhaps leave the rolling of eyeballs as though one is 14 and one's father just bought them a Stevie Wonder album because they heard that they enjoy the pop music for another, later time.

Holy ****. I'm so used to being on beta that I've never really cared about pre-release day besides the yay. So this whole "glad I preordered thing" never felt better. Maybe I'm not cursing this snowstorm after all.

Good advice - hopefully there will be a New To The Game? forum created for OOTP 16 soon.

Yes, we'll create all the forums later this morning, before we send out the emails in ~ 5 hours

Even if the question is dumb and has been answer many times i would just be nice and answer the question.

Cant wait. Great work, loved 15, if 16 is slightly better than 15 then Ill be really happy. If it is as good as hyped, then Ill need too book a few months off 'life' for a while.

Cheers.

It's currently 1750 here in Okinawa, Japan on 20 March and I see no email. What do you mean my time isn't the time everywhere!?

I cannot wait! Baseball is one of the things that reminds me of home and I put far too much time into OOTP 15. The new features make me want to make my first fictional league. I'm not sure why, but maybe it's the elaborated Hall of Fame and All Star features.

I hope everyone is having a good day!

I'm glad you posted this. The community here has been one of the biggest reasons why I love ootp. ootp can be a bit overwhelming at first but it was the community that got me through it. Now I'm ootp 4 life!

Syd, thanks for the great post. It's been my experience that this community has been very accepting to most newbies for the most part, but it doesn't hurt to remind ourselves to be patient.

Pretty much everyone was nice to me as I began to get immersed in all of the game's features, and I've always appreciated everyone's patience. There is a great group of people here with a wide array of expertise, and their knowledge helps everyone enjoys all of the great features of this wonderful game.

In the beginning I posted really dumb questions that I would probably roll my eyes at now. I was treated fine so I hope everyone treats the new guys well too.

I'm not military personnel, but I am an ex-pat American living in Korea, so I feel you for time. I'm at home with my boys (3.5 years and 20 months) right now on a Friday night while my wife is at a company dinner. Once the game "drops" and my wife gets home, she's putting them to sleep while I drink beer and play around with 16 (until my old laptop inevitably overheats and craps out).

If we play now with our pre-order copy, can we transfer our game to our Steam copy later when it comes out?

Sure, no problem. Just install and start the Steam version and the saved games will be there already (if you installed with default settings).
