Exactly. A lot of the time unless people say specifically what the problem is the devs wont know about it.

An easy one. We are always stuck with a fake 19th century model (I know we can do it manually, but it isn't the point). I think this is a more important lacking feature as historical baseball is an actual selling point than having little men running on the screen who aren't actually a game feature...

On the other hand, one of the roles the user can take on in the game is that of general manager, which necessarily means making roster moves. Which player to sign, which player to release, which player to option down, which player to recall, which player to trade, which player to draft. All of these decisions involve off-the-field aspects; namely, the transaction rules. That is, what you are allowed to do as GM and when you are allowed to do it.

Some would see that as the key part of the game.

All of those things that you mention are key parts of the game. I am not saying that is not part of baseball. I enjoy all of those things about the game. All I am saying is that for the last who knows how many versions those things have been the focus of the game when some other things that bring baseball on the field to life have not been.

I would argue in essence, this IS the game

Well if that is the game then why even include the ability to play out games at all? Why not just nix that all together. This is just a GM sim after all. I really disagree with you on this point. This is supposed to be a baseball sim and the on the field stuff has always been a major part of this game to some users. This game is not just a GM game but a baseball game. The action unfolding on the field is part of the game and crazy enough is also part of baseball.

The on the field stuff was what first made me buy Season Ticket. I remember reading about this great game called Baseball Mogul. Sure I could set the price of a hot dog, but I couldn't play out my teams games. Then I found Season Ticket. Damn, no way to price a hot dog, but it sure was fun to manage my bullpen and send in a pinch hitter or 2.

Nice knowing you!

I don't buy it for one minute, though. I've seen the same threat from fans of many different games. They swear that they will stop playing the game in protest or whatever future development that they find objectionable, and then it never materializes.

But if you're willing to walk away from the greatest baseball simulation of all-time simply out of personal spite and to take your ball and go home, then that's your loss and not anyone else's.

I will never question anyone's right to exercise the freedom of choice in order to take a personal stand. If it means that much to you, then so be it. But it seems to be nothing but self-denial if it really doesn't accomplish anything but put an end to the personal entertainment that you've enjoyed from OOTP. And you've acknowledged that it's not going to have any real impact beyond you as an individual. So I guess that's the end of the discussion.

The issue has been settled, the developer is on the record, and I am reserving all my future discussions on this topic for constructive exchanges of suggestions, ideas, and requests on how to implement graphics and continuously improve them once OOTP Developments is able to get this moving.

For others who've opposed or been concerned about the addition of graphics, I hope you will join in the constructive discussions because I think it's important to explore how the graphical display can be made optional for the user and to get everyone's ideas on how to keep improving the game engine and many other areas of OOTP at the same time that graphics are implemented. Everyone's voices should be heard, and even though we might not always agree with particular development decisions, we should all have a say in how they're implemented and help make sure that we're all getting the experience we want from the game.

What Bluenoser said is he think if OOTP includes graphic it will take away whatever he is enjoying right now, and then it would not be very "self entertaining" for him. Empty threat? Maybe. However, if you think that's totally not going to happen, that's not the case. I have not touched Football Manager since they included 3D graphic. Do I feel at a loss? Not at all, because I don't enjoy playing it anymore, that doesn't change the fact that it's still the best soccer managing game you can get. Some people will not buy OOTP if it includes graphic. Does that make OOTP any less great? probably not? But is it empty threat? Not at all. Does it bother any of us? Not at all. Does this particular post of you bothers me? Abslotutely

Still having problems with the comprehension I see.

I made no threats, only stated a fact.

Never once said I would do this out of protest.

Sorry, not doing it out of spite either.

My preference is a game that's text based and stat based. I'm not interested in graphics.

Is that so hard for you to understand? Is it that difficult to grasp that not everybody wants the same as you?

I don't know any other way to explain it. I was sure this was plain, simple English language when I said "I moved to OOTP because it didn't have graphics, because it was what I was looking for in a game." Maybe it's me, maybe I'm just unable to make myself clear. It has NOTHING to do with protesting the game, or threatening anything. It's just a simple and plain fact. When this game doesn't meet what I'm looking for in a game, I won't buy it anymore. Sorry, can't make it any plain or clearer than that.

And lastly, I can absolutely guarantee you that it won't be a loss to me. I lived without OOTP before it came along and I'll do just fine afterwards. I can continue to play pre-graphic versions as well. OOTP is not, nor will it ever be, the be all to end all in gaming. Sorry to burst your bubble. There are plenty of choices out there.

Also it's not as if older versions of OOTP become all "Mission Impossible" like and self destruct upon release of each new version. Not buying the next version doesn't mean one has to quit playing this great game.

It is cool that Marcus is considering the aspects of physics and ball park configuration and how they affect pitcher v Hitter outcomes.

Some months ago, I ran into (dare I say?) a vocal minority who said that tracking Earned Runs accurately is not important and it would be too difficult to correct and Marcus should spend time on other things (graphics, perhaps?) and, besides, I shouldn't care about Earned Runs anyway.

I may be wrong about this, but, it seems to me that getting the parameters for what is an earned run and unearned run coded correctly is vastly simpler than getting the particulars of a line drive home run, in any other park, resulting in a Single/batter out at second base, 7-4, at Fenway.

No it doesn't, and I think Bluenoser mean is he will not buy whatever version of OOTP that includes Graphic, not just stop playing OOTP altogether, just as I still play FM that is not 3D graphic

Oh yeah, you remind me of this. I really want to see earned/unearned runs been scored correctly in this upcoming version

Charlie, you are seriously underestimating how opposed some people are to the idea of graphics in OOTP and its consequences.

Personally I plan to just turn them off if I can, or just sim if I can't, but don't be shocked when some people really do leave the game over this issue.

Drop by http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...m-war-war.html where QuestDog and I are trashing ERA, that awful, subjective, team-based garbage stat. QuestDog: "I actually think ERA is one of the stupidest stats ever invented."
