Smile First OOTP 11 Screenshots!

Hey folks!

We are proud to release the first 5 screenshots to the public. Only a handful of people have seen OOTP 11 in action so far, so you are among the first to see how the upcoming version of our baseball game looks like!

The game will enter beta testing in a couple of days, and a preordering period will start very soon after that. This year we will release the game significantly earlier than in prior years! A release date estimate will be announced once preordering starts.

OK, on to the screenshots. As you see, we have significantly changed the way the interface looks in the upper area of the screen. We have added a 'calendar view' which shows the last day, the current day, and future days (number depending on used screen resolution). The day fields are populated with game results and league events, and also feature access to simulation functions and playing out games.

Also, we have replaced the menu with a better looking system, and also have re-introduced a team menu where you can reach all the screens and reports the selected team has to offer. Selecting leagues or teams work via the arrow which points to the league/ team name, this arrow opens a menu with the available teams/leagues. The new team menu enables you to reach any team screen/report from anywhere in the game with a single click! Another useful feature is row highlighting in tables, the current row gets highlighted when you move the mouse over it.

Further, we have added the 'Finish today'-button to the upper area and access to your bookmarks to the icon bar at the bottom. The icon bar can now be hidden, freeing up more screen space for smaller resolutions.

Well, let's get to the screenshots now, first up, the new manager home page! It is completely redesigned and lets you know important information while giving you access to the most used screens and functions. We have added a few useful notes, for example when there are interesting players available on the trading block or waiver wire, or when certain staff positions are not occupied in your organization. Also, you get a glimpse of what the (newly introduced) owner thinks about your current performance.

Here is the new manager news screen. As you can see, we have added new ways for you to decide which kind of news you want in your inbox and which not. Also, we have changed the layout a bit, we hope you like it!

OK, here is the new team menu I was talking about, with this you have access to most team screens and all team reports from anywhere in the game.

This is the new expanded league standings screen. We improved the league standings quite a bit, offering four differen views: 1) Basic with league leaders, 2) Wildcard standings, 3) View by subleague and 4) Expanded view.

The next screen shows the start of an improved historical league creation wizard. It is now easier to create the kind of historical league you want while also informing you about what happened in reality during the selected season.

These screenshots were taken with the defaul skin. Another skin is in the works, we will show you screens of that once Aurelio is done with it.

Well, that's it for now! Stay tuned, we will have more news and plenty of screenshots soon. I am really excited about this year's version, it looks & feels great and it is a lot of fun to use and play around with!

All the best,
Markus

You opened the forum ahead of time for maybe the first time ever. Yay!!!!!!!!!

(It always bugged me that for a month or two we'd have so many threads about the new version mixed in with the latest.)

dola...

At first I was a little intimidated by the screenshots, but I have to say that after reading your explanations and looking at the screenshots closer, I'm really impressed! I'm sure I'll find stuff I'd still like to see different (being able to move toolbar items), but some of the changes you have like the return of the team menu and making the news screen have vertical panes instead of space-wasting horizontal ones are great! I can hardly wait to see what else there will be like what all the other arrows pull down to.

Look great. You mention styles, so I'll ask this: will we still have the green/wood style we've had forever?

Yes, the second skin will look similar to the 'classic' skin.

I second the wood style. Please keep that

I liked the skins from I think version 5 where you had ash and cherry. They were both wood but had slightly different colors and textures so when you switched from the one to the other the effects were subtle but existed. Maybe others thought that was lame, I don't know, but I liked it.

Well, lets hope the other skin is better. I don't know, first impressions don't sit well with me, but I'll take a while to digest these. The font sizes and the size of the arrows, buttons seem to be more catered to the visually impared.

I have my own list of things that I would have chosen to work on before re-doing the interface (again) but its not my game so...

Looking good. Really like the calender at the top of the screen. Row highlighting yes, something that will make it much easier when looking at my custom widescreen stat views.

Also count me in with kq76 on liking the vertical news panels.

And finally the bottom icon bar. With earlier posts I was afraid you would remove the icons from the bottom. They are something I use often and I'm glad they are there as an option. But after looking over the new design of the top menus I think I'll probably be hiding the bottom bar. Nicely done, I'm impressed.

I think the skin looks fine, but I think it'll be a good idea to have multiple options. Really excited to see this in action...

Do bear in mind that the skin on OOTP is largely 'data' driven and so redoing its styling doesn't actually take Markus away from improving gameplay half as much as you might imagine ..

(similar thing with FM, restyling it is something which is mainly 'artist' based and not coder based)

By interface I think most of us mean, "the placement of buttons, what they do, etc". You make it sound like it's only like a skin. If the placement of buttons and what they do is really something Markus spends no time on then point taken, but I think most of us would be surprised to learn that.

With regards to placement and styling - thats largely 'artistic' (ie. non-coder), with regards to what they do - surely that can be argued as being the entire game though? ... and yeah I'd expect Markus spends time on that, unless OOTP has finally reached a sentient status where its writing itself now

Right, I take care of the button placement. And I enjoy it
