Actually, in my sick sense of humour, I enjoyed it. I congratulated him on getting the MLB license but said it was a shame the new game wasn't coming wasnt coming out until 2007.

The when 2007 was announced I asked what happened and he just backtracked and said there were "legal issues" LOL yeah I bet there were.

The funniest was reading "Markus" badmouth his own product and that he was likely heading out on his own soon.

And that's how we get 2008, 2009… This is not a bad thing.

lets just hope the historical league problems are gone. Are pitchers still dying out around 31? I could never get pitchers into the late 30s. Around 31, they're ERA would ballon and be in the minors within two years.

Also, lets hope the AI signs free agents. I've run numerous historical leagues where great players have sat for years in Free Agency and then just retired. Usually they were 30-31.

Also, i hope aging is a lot better. I still remember my guy who played into 60's or 70's LOL. Seems like batters played forever.

I'm not an historical player, but I've read in the beta forums that with the new Recalculate Rating to Historic option on, the game's statistical output rivals DMB.

If only the "doom and gloomers" knew exactly how difficult it is to make a video game, albeit a great video game. The endless hours of testing and tweaking that go into every feature to ensure it's nothing less than "perfect", so hopefully when the consumer gets the end product in their hands (err downloaded onto their computer) the only thing the consumer can say about the game is "WOW!!!" or "Oh my freakin' god, this is the best game ever; Markus I love you!!!". Unfortunately this is never the case, because it's impossible to please everyone. This is not to take anything away from Markus and his team because clearly they do a great job.

When Markus "merged" with SI a couple years ago, it was more than just the $$$ that motivated him; (correct me if I'm wrong here) the resources that he now had available would enable him (and his team) to re-write an already brilliant game engine, which had reached its maximum potential, and turn it into the most ambitious baseball simulator ever created. The potential for this game now is limited only to the imagination.

Fast forwarding to when patch 1.0.3 came out, yes the game was still a bit (emphasis on "a bit") rough around the edges, BUT a rock-star of a game none-the-less. And I’m guessing most people would agree by the lack of "traffic" in the forums (after that final patch was released) – it quenched people’s thirst for the most part.

This is directed towards all those “DnG’s” – SI offers an open forum to let everyone have a voice - the “DnG’s” get to vent about why they don’t like the game and the enthusiasts get to request features they’d like to see in the next iteration of the game. Yet still, after all that is offered to them, certain people, who clearly just want to hear their own voice, post about why the games trading AI isn’t like real life (hint: it’s a video game), why Santa Clause isn’t real, or why their wife is sleeping with the neighbor and frankly it’s very irritating.

Bottom line - business is about two things... time and money. When those two resources run out, you ship what you have and hope that all of your time and efforts are appreciated by Mr. Consumer. The video game world is a business, for better or for worse. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was OOTP Baseball 2006, 2007, or 2008, etc, etc.

I say this, without having any personal or business affiliation to Mark, Markus, or SI, but OOTP Baseball 2007 with blow OOTP Baseball 2006 and every other baseball title out of the water. And OOTP Baseball 2008 will blow 2007 out of the water. Do you see the pattern?

There's a beta post right now being commented upon. It's about Bert Blyleven's 26 year career. He's an outlier.

Aging and development is being examined in the most complete manner possible. The math is...heavy.

For all those doom and gloomers:

You're not spending $35,000 on a new car here. It's $35. Think about it.

Yes, but then we get to hear the griping all over again.

This nonsense of complaining about a new version based on a few screenshots or whatever is ridiculous. However, they do have the choice of just waiting till others get it and then get opinions from them then decide whether they want it or not. That seems simple enough.

I just don't see the point in making up a mind one way or the other before the product is even available.

We're still tweaking, but aging is becoming pretty good. Career lengths are matching MLB baselines closely, skills are rising and falling in ways that the sabermetrically inclined will recognize, and good productive players are coming from all levels of the draft in patterns that seem realistic (given that the OOTP draft environment can't ever perfectly match the MLB data we're using as baseline data sets).

I care less about all the new features

I just want the AI way improved and bugs that went from version to version without ever getting fix first.

That part has to be working well before adding anymore new features.

I for one can't wait till it's released. It's going to be the best baseball simulation to ever be released,I have no doubt about it.

LGO,

Does the interface seem added on like it was in OOTP 2006? By that I mean, do we have some features that are available within the program itself while others are available via html? It seemed that OOTP 2006 was a mix between the new interface and html, and sometimes it was hard moving between the two.

Thanks!

That browswer-within-a-browser effect is gone, thanks to only one set of back/forward arrows. Little things of that sort have cleaned up navigation a lot. There are also some quick link navigation icons at the bottom of the screen to quickly jump to different areas. Helps me out, though I often forget which icon is for what. Darned memory of mine.

There is the occasional report which opens up in HTML outside the game, but nothing really off-putting. Bear in mind though that I only tend to look at certain screens. I'm not the GUI expert, but I have found getting around in those areas I usually look at to be a lot easier.

The wizards which guide players through some actions are very helpful.

I was the same way about the interface, it took a while for me to get used to it and it was very hard to get into the charm of the game after I fell in love with OOTP 6. I've spent the last few weeks playing it however, and I have to say that I love it now. It definitely takes a while to get into, and I'm hoping OOTP2007 isn't much different as far as interface, but once I did, I just loved it. The depth and realism is amazing. Maybe it's just me, but I've changed my opinion on the interface.

Think "sandpaper" instead of "wood chipper". A great deal of stuff is centralized on one page.

Wow...didn't expect this to get moved. I guess it shows Markus' and Marc's ability to take criticism. Thats a good thing.

I suppose it is only $35 (and with my 2006 discount, a little more). But the thing is, I don't buy Madden or any other sports game yearly...why this?

Do the quick links tell you what they are if you hover your mouse over them?
