Amen... I have a dynasty that I stopped prematurely as I was gearing myself up for the expansion of the early 60s, and the introduction of the Federal League with an expansion draft. Now that the game will do this for us, I can get back to my dynasty!

But I'm convinced that there are many people out there who are really trying to talk bad about the game, but OOTP 2006 was a new game, really, not an update. And I think people were so attached to the 6.51 or whatever older version they were using, they didn't want to learn something new. I'm sure Bill Gates will have similar problems with Vista.

This is a great game. It's not perfect, but the real game isn't either (have you noticed how all but a handful of real pitchers have really horrible stats, yet get rich off of their contracts?). I, for one, am thrilled that 2007 is coming, and that the development has been moving along a nice clip without involving the masses here until now.

Remember, those who want to complain will speak up. Those who are happy tend to sit back and spend their money.

Add me to the group of 6.5ers (and I've been around since v3) who was mightily disappointed with 2006. I'd publicly declared my undying fanboyism in v4, and hadn't wavered from that stance.

Until last year.

2006 was not a good game. I didn't enjoy it. It wasn't "fun." I wanted to like it. I tried to play it. I couldn't.

Well, the fanboy is back. 2007 goes a long way to bringing OOTP back to where it should be, and in many ways, surpasses 6.5. There are still some issues, but the inspiration Markus has drawn from SI is beginning to show through, and I'm enjoying OOTP again. Immensely. What's even more exciting for me is that there is so much more room for growth in 2008. I play FM a lot, and OOTP has a ways to go to get to the level of immersion FM brings to the table. But it's on well it's way.

Believe me, after the terrible time I had with 2006, I was guarded about how I would feel about 2007. Not anymore.

The only other thing I can say is, demo this version when you can. I don't think you'll regret it.

The manager screen for starters (makes navigation to commonly used pages one-click instead of two-three, and a lot of information I want is there, too), but what really did it for me was the terse play-by-play. More on that in a bit. The return and expansion of the trading options is also big for me. Shop player, make this work are back, and that helps a lot. But add in Untouchable to the trading block ... much needed, for AI and human. The "Meet Offer" button on Contract Negotiations means I don't have to spend so much time jacking my offer up from $0. Now, it's hit the button and tweak ...

See, while I had some issues navigating around the new interface, I was already well familiar with FM, and OOTP's new interface was/is inspired by that game. So it took some adjusting from what I was used to in 6.5 and before, but all told, it was "doable."

The one thing that killed the fun for me in 6.5 was the ... pause ... before the next set of instructions would appear after "pressing any key to continue." In 6.5 and before I'd be pressing "1" so fast, sometimes I'd go too far and make a tactical mistake, like leaving a pitcher in to bat when he should have been pinch hit for (I was even concerned I would wear out the 1 button on my keypad!). In 2006, I couldn't stand having to ... wait ... after each play before starting the next AB.

Terse PbP, combined with Instant PbP, addresses that problem, but in a backdoor way. The ... pause ... is still there, but the time between keypresses is almost back to 6.5 standards. The length of time between 1s is now just long enough to keep me from making those mistakes near as often, while not destroying the pace of the game. This one thing has gone the longest way to bringing the game back for me.

All those doom and gloomers are the same people who want the game to play itself. They don't want to make any effort at anything to get "stats to look at", which could be easily done just by going to the retrosheet website if that's all they want from the game.

Personally, I don't see all the problems in 2006 that these people are complaining about, but then I actually play the game and play out games myself.

The problem is that everyone wants the game designed strictly for them, for their own individual wishes which is impossible to achieve since everyone uses games in a different way.

This game is, by far, the best one out there, imo, at least among baseball games. A lot of consumer input has been added to the game and used to improve it. There are very few game creators who take much time to create or improve games based on what the consumers ask for, what you see is what you get. Buy it or don't.

People have been spoiled rotten by these forums, and people will continue to be dissatisfied because everything that is asked for that gets put into the game will just lead them to wanting more, thereby making it impossible to make the game 100% what they want.

All I can say is I appreciate the game and the effort that has gone into it and will go into it in the future. Yes, there are some things I would like to see for my own use, but then again, I don't mind doing a few things myself.

I understand you now. It wasn't so much the interface, but some of the features that weren't up to 6.51 standards. I can agree with you on that. I just suffered through it.
