Actually, it's the second time in the past week or so. MM seems fond of starting relevant OOTP-related threads in OT - which is a lot better than the other way around!

It seems to me that there are plenty of new additions, from expansion to facegen to better league management abilities (not that I've tried any of it yet).
I tend to view OOTP as something like a subscription service. You pay a fee once a year and you get to keep playing an amazing and ever-improving game. Markus has shown with each incarnation of OOTP that he can make great strides in relatively short time. The progress from OOTP2-4 and then 4-6 is really astounding. Last year there were birthing pains due to the new engine, but I fully expect that Markus will show the same sort of progress now that we are familiar with it.

We have watched OOTP from birth and it grew into a very good young game, learning every year and taking in what the outside world expected. Then it hit it's teenage years with OOTP2006, as was evident with it's sulking, bad skin and grumpy behavior. But now I predict our little game is all grown up and off to college, and she's gonna **** our brains out!

Unless it's a Christian university. (Just sayin'....)
I agree with your sentiment. The downside is that a lot of guys are going to be skeptical (hopefully the openly hostile will wait until the game is out to start their rantings.) The skepticism is well deserved and I know a lot of beta guys went into testing with skepticism as well. Let's put it this way...I beta tested OOTP 2006 and I loudly advocated for my online league to stay with 6.5. I'm going to be just as loud saying we'll need 2007 because the improvements are THAT good. However, if I hadn't seen it, I'd be waiting and watching too. |

I expect many to wait and see and I support this view for those who have that bitter taste.

I posted this elsewhere, but I'll say it again here:
With all of the tweaking that's been done, statistics actually make sense. No longer will you have a player trim 60 Ks off his season average only to see his batting average and other stats remain the same. Pains have been taken to make sure ratings actually correlate to each other realistically. Also, aging has improved so that the aging curves are a very close match to real life data. If OOTP2007 doesn't interest you for any other reason, it should because it is probably the most realistic baseball simulation ever. |

Here are my predictions:
1) Many people will love the game. 2) There will be some who who openly dislike the game without ever having purchased it or played it. 3) There will be some who dislike the game but offer constructive, well thought-out criticisms. 4) There will be some who won't like the game and won't offer anything close to constructive criticism, or may only complain about the game on another board where the criticisms do no good. 5) There will be numerous "Thank you Markus!" and "I love this game" threads. 6) There will be numerous "disappointed!!1!" and "how can I get my money back threads" 7) There will be plenty of new aliai on the board, some funny, most annoying. 8) I'll be sitting back and enjoying OOTP2007 for another year. |
