I don't really think this incident was as bad as it was made out to be, especially in regard to the Miami team as a whole. Yes there was a player swinging his helmet around and he's an idiot for doing so. Yes there was a player (maybe two, I couldn't tell) stomping at a player when he was knocked down and he/they're an idiot for doing so. By and large though the team was just coming to the aid of the players that were originally involved in the altercation and most of them did nothing wrong. A lot of the players were just pushing and shoving each other and maybe throwing a punch here and there.
The only reason this is getting so much attention is because of the helmet swinging and stomping by 2-3 players out of 80+ players that were on the field. This isn't much different than a bench clearing brawl between two baseball teams. Other than the bigger amount of players involved due to football having more players. |

Yeah, you have me pegged. I'm a total Miami homer that is blind and always thinks they're right and never do anything wrong.

All in all, I'm a fan of Larry Coker an the University of Miami, and I think that he and Butch Davis have done a good job repairing the image of the team.
I agree with Weimer. If it were baseball or hockey, we'd pretty much glorify this. But because two or three Miami players made pretty stupid decisions by stomping and swinging helmets, now the WHOLE TEAM has to be stereotyped as thugs again. That's unfair. Lamar Thomas does not represent the majority of Miami players and fans with his comments, and should also get in trouble. Anthony Reddick (26), and Brandon Meriweather (19) also don't represent an entire nation of players and fans. So before people start piling on, think about this, please. |

FIU won't get a bowl offer. They're winless at this point in the season and the best they can finish is 5-7. They're in the Sun Belt conference which will probably get 1-2 bowl bids period. So they'd more or less have to win the Sun Belt to make a bowl. Which isn't going to happen with the way they've been performing this season. Arkansas State and Mid Tenn State would both have to totally nosedive and win no more games this season for FIU to make a bowl.

Probably not, but downplaying the incident like you did is way out of line IMO. You even admit the helmet bashing, the kicking, the punch throwing, but then you say it's not as bad as others are making it out to be. Something tells me you're severely desensitized.

Downplaying the incident is way out of line simply because you say so? Alright then, mr. high horse. The incident is being made out to be more than it is. It was a simple brawl like in any other sport with a few players deciding to act like morons and swing their helmets and kick players on the ground. That in no way means it's the entire schools fault or the team as a whole. Those players involved in the acts should be punished and rightly so. That doesn't make Miami a horrible team full of thugs like others have previously said in this post.

Another way out there response. Hockey a decade or so ago? Maybe, by some crazies. Baseball even in the last century? I doubt it.

Dola, and this has nothing to do with me being a Miami fan. I'd say the same exact thing if it would've been the FIU players doing the helmet swinging and kicking. It's a case of the media and sports community blowing things out of proportion like they always do. It makes for good reading and an interesting story.

If this was an isolated incident then perhaps you would have a point... But its incident after incident after incident There is a reason the school has the 'thug' image and for the most part it is well deserved. |

Way to read what you want to read. Where did I say anything about Clemson and Syracuse? It's not even the same situation so why do you keep bringing them up? I never said anything about giving anyone a slap on the wrist. I said THE PLAYER SHOULD BE PUNISHED AND RIGHTLY SO. The players that were involved deserved to be punished for acting like idiots and endangering others. The Miami football program and FIU football program as a whole don't deserve to be reprimanded though. The coaches did the best they could to break up the mess and so did the referees. So because 10-15 refs and personnel couldn't contain 80+ players engaging in fighting activites that somehow means the schools should be punished? It's not the coaches faults the players were fighting. They didn't direct their players to start a brawl and take off their helmets and start swinging them. |
