I don't think it's wrong to feel more surprised that it was someone recognizeable. It would be wrong if you only felt bad when you found out it was someone recognizeable.

That's what's getting to me...I think he's the first guy I've seen play live in an MLB game who's dead. The co-host of our morning sports show walked in and was asking me about Lidle and I said I could remember yelling at him when he would blow a lead for the Phils. It's surreal in a way.

His poor family.

It would probably be a nice move on your part to edit your first post and remove the "idiot", since you now have more information regarding the story and the accuracy of the initial post in the thread. That would diffuse all this name-calling in a thread that really, really doesn't need it.

Just my opinion, take it or flame me.

Son there is no need for profanity and it was you that started with the name calling and disparaging remarks, all I asked was that you refrain from doing so as there is no need for that in this forum.

You have been disrespectful and improper in your comments and I have pointed that out, I have not been as you stated.

Good luck with the rest of your life.

Again as stated by others above it is a sad day for the Lidle family and the litany of players that were friends and teammates of Cory with the many teams that he played for.

Funny thing is Andy i was watching CNN too. Guess I was just paying more attention.

and Nate, I am done commenting about you, my previous post sums up that there's no need for this when a man has just died. oh and I have reported every instance of flaming you've made in this thread so far. Have a good day

I wish he was still in Philly too.

Wikipedia has a photo of Lidle and his plane:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cory_Lidle

Someone's already put up the horrific news.

I never saw Kile play but I remember all the Cardinals fans around here who walked around for days just stunned. Half of my co-workers who didn't have life insurance went out and bought some in the week after Kile's passing. It's amazing how easy it is to forget sometimes that life can be over in a split second.

Arthur Rhodes' comment in that article is a bit eerie:

The only thing Cory Lidle wants to do is fly around in his airplane and gamble.

It's now been confirmed that it was Lidle and his flight instructor.

This is earily similar to how I felt during 9/11, but in a much smaller way. At first, I thought it wasn't a big deal, but then I learn more about it.

Here, you forgot a few people to add to that:

Harry R. Blaze
Ella Mae Redmond
Walter L. Herring
Frank Dolson
Frank J. Carpiel, Sr.
C. Raymond Larkin
Mirian Kohn Savar
Lois B. Widmann

Or do only famous people and big events get to be remembered reverently?
