Rumored where? This is a pretty far out claim. You need to post a link or source or something.

New York Yankees manager Joe Torre says the plane that crashed into a building in Manhattan is registered to team pitcher Cory Lidle.

Joe Torre told CNN the plane was registered to Lidle. Too early to say he was the pilot but it does at least bring a valid concern for Lidle's safety.

Fox is reporting that it is believed he was piloting it. Can't confirm it yet, but if so, very sad.

EDIT: Now they just said it was Lidle because they found his passport on the ground after it crashed.

Again my condolences go to Lidle's family, the Yankees and the Phillies families as well.
CNN Update, no confirmations yet but the FBI says Lidle was flying and his passport was found on the street below, and its not being debated if there was anyone with him |

Lidle dies as plane crashes into Manhattan high-rise ESPN.com news services NEW YORK -- A small plane piloted by New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle crashed into a 50-story condominium tower Wednesday on Manhattan's Upper East Side, raining flaming debris onto the sidewalks below and rattling New Yorkers' nerves five years after the Sept. 11 attack. Lidle died in the crash. The twin-engine plane came through a hazy, cloudy sky and hit the 20th floor of The Belaire -- a red-brick tower overlooking the East River, about five miles from the World Trade Center -- with a loud bang, touching off a raging fire that cast a pillar of black smoke over the city and sent flames shooting from four windows on two adjoining floors. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. |
