Lightbulb Utility Creator/Commish ----- Please Read -----

I'm almost sure that in the .dat files, OOTP doesnt use all
variables. I'm waiting for OOTP6 and Markus to confirm that.

Based on that, I had an idea to make life easier for commish.
As soon as I will affect a player, a team, etc... in any dat files
with one of my utilities, I will set an unsued variable to a
certain value that I will call: Free Variable ID
(I will take "1" since I had the idea )
So, 1 will be = Pierre's utilities

Than I will build a small utility for commish to be able to take a
look at the dat file in a specific Legue. Based on the value
that stored in the Free Variable ID, the program will tell you
witch utility was last used to edit the file. I cannot put more
details than that unless if I'm playing with bytes.

This will be like a "cheat checker", so I would like to have
your feedback regards the idea. Than we could agree on
different Free Variable ID's based on the utility creator and
we could affect the same variable to make it standard.
And maybe, one day, Markus could add something in the game
to verify the same thing.

Thanks

Ok, I could probably produce more different output and more
information with the utility.
for programmers ---- since (int) in C/C++ is 0000000000000000
with windows, we can use the 16 position as a Y/N flag and
based on that we could have 16 different information to output
per unused variable.

It would probably be good to know exactly which utilities were used too, plural if that is the case.

That sounds like a really good idea Pierre. If there really are unused variables like that, it should be a snap to add that into existing utilities and it would help a lot for future utilities. I'm starting to get excited to get into mod writing for OOTP6, it sounds like it will be much nicer.

I haven't played online yet, so I haven't given this much thought, but it sounds like a good idea. Obviously, we need to figure out how to let mod makers know about this.

What I wonder is just how much of the dat files will be revealed? You may still have to ask what's not being used at the moment.
