player numbers

I know this isn't a huge deal for most people but it really bothers me. Would it be possible to include a retired number option? Also, the problem with players on the same team having the same number. It would really be nice if this could be automated.

If it helps the cause any, I'd like to throw my support in too, for the repeating numbers thing. I hadn't thought about a retired numbers feature, but that sounds cool. . .

(everyone has their little fixes they'd love to see in the game; many won't see the value of these one's being added, but that's fine)

I'm not a fan of retired numbers but I am a fan of realistic uniform numbers. As it stands, players are as likely to be issued a wide receiver's number (80's) as they are something in the 20's or 30's.

I'll post my support for this as well. Can we get some official word on whether or not there have been any jersey number related features added to OOTP6?

On the topic of jersey numbers, I'd like to add that jersey numbers could not be editted in OOTP5 while in manager mode. Hopefully we'll always have the option of editting jersey numbers in OOTP6.

The "official word" is "no idea", my educated guess would be no -due to the fact that this is a low priority item. But it's only a guess.

I agree.. this stuff bother's me too. I'll trade for someone like Mark Prior or Gary Sheffield and he'll take good ol' number 86! Not sure why, it just bugs me.

you know a game is great when people are complaining about jersey numbers in a text sim game. where the players on the field dont even have bodies let alone a jersey.

And oh yeah, I would like to have this too.

I think this would be great too, retired numbers would be perfect. I have noticed the same numbers too, but it's easily fixable with the editor. I do shake my head when I see such high numbers.

I'll throw in my support too... I was just thinking of this today, and then I find this post... must be karma...

I think the # generator should at least give preference to #'s around 65 and below... maybe make pitcher's more likely to get #'s betw. 20-65... but not allowing multiple #'s on the same roster would be great... at least the opening day ACTIVE roster, since there may be over 100 players throughout the entire system... or perhaps change a player's # if you promote him to the majors mid-season and his # clashes...

...anything that would help...

Why not just throw out the jersey number option, it really adds very little to the actual game, and probably wouldn't be missed.

I think it would be nice if the player numbers were generated "better", but it does not bother me too much the way it is because the numbers are mostly out of sight, out of mind. If they were more prominent I would be more interested in them.

I have thought that it would be nice to spruce up the in-game field picture player boxes. Possibly have the player number in addition to the name and position/defense stuff and also be able to specify team color(s) for those boxes.

Because what would we have to complain about than?...LOL. This is really funny that everyone is so worried about a USELESS part of the game...it is an un-needed feature.

It's hardly a useless part of the game. Some people enjoy building up a history and forming attachments to players. It's only something you can really appreciate if you play a solo league.

I'm willing to bet that most people who think of a feature like this as unwanted and useless are also people who have no respect for baseballs history and past exploits, they just want to see Barry Bonds hit dingers. To be blunt, this type of feature isn't for you, the capacity to understand why this would be appreciated just isn't there.

So your saying that because I could care less if my star shortstop is #11 or #70, I'm not a real baseball fan. Numbers are purley cosmetic in OOTP. The only time they are ever used in is pBp, when the player comes up to bat.

If Markus got to the point where he could make them significant(retired numbers, players wanted specific number, minor leagues getting a high number when called up, etc.) then I would welcome them. Until Markus runs out of other ways to make the game better I see no reason for him to waste time on jersey numbers.

I wasn't saying that you weren't a real fan. I was saying you were a different type of fan. While it may be a useless feature to you, it isn't to other people. Some people care about league history more than the fact that they have a star ss for the season. Let me illustrate it to you a little bit. What do the numbers 99, 23, and 42 mean to you in regards to the world of sports? I'm sure even you can make the connections. Some people actually enjoy making the same connections in ootp with the players that are made there.

That and I really don't understand where you're trying to go with your argument. At one point you say you would care if Marcus made them significant and one of the things you listed was retired numbers. This is exactly what I am suggesting. So what exactly is your point?

My whole arguement is that unless something more is going to be done with #'s they are not needed because the number's generated are inaccurate and just piss people off, and make it harder for roster makers. If Markus can do more with them then i would be happy to welcome them.

I would just like the option to change it after a trade so I'm not left with 13 #84's.

86?

86? A wise choice in numbers, if I may say.
