UKBL has vacancies.

The UK's number 1 OOTP league has 3 vacancies for the start of it's 2011 season.

We are looking for committed, reliable owners to join a league that still has a high percentage of it's founder owners.

If you are interested, check out our site at http://www.daishi.co.uk.

The vacant teams are the A's, Rockies and Cubs.

Why is it called the UKBL if all the teams are in NA?

Same reason it's called a World Series when there's only teams from NA!

It is called the UKBL because it was set up to cater for the UK based player of OOTP, but over the past couple of years, people have realised what a good league it is and we have gone international.

I've noticed a few of you (UK OOTP players). Is baseball that popular with native UKers, or are most of you (UK OOTP players) native NAers?

The UK has the same baseball heritage as Australia. US servicemen posted there during WW2 introduced baseball to the locals, and it has continued ever since. It's fair to say that Australians have embraced baseball more than the Poms, who find it hard to replace their normal summer sport, cricket (even though most countries kick their arses at cricket these days).

I might be interested in either the Rockies or the A's. Have they been filled yet? Also - what are the rules on moving the team to a different city/stadium? I don't see anything in the rules about moving cities?

A's and Rockies are still available, the moving of teams is open to discussion and as Andy says has been done in the past.

I don't think so. It's an american dream...
Actually, I think Baseball is not american's own game.
Baseball is originated from UK, cricket. Americans play so called ROUNDERS which imitate cricket. It changed to Townball in 1830's in USA. And then, americans developed a real baseball. Therefore, above saying doesn't make sense.

There's nothing in what Mark said that is contrary to what you just said. And I think baseball is sufficiently different from cricket to say that baseball is really UK's game or whoever created cricket. If baseball was cricket with only a few changes, then I could see your point, but it is not. Like I said, imo it is sufficiently different.

Also, if it was more the UK's game, then I think you'd be hearing a lot more about all the great UK players that are out there. Are there any? I know there's a few pretty good Aussies, but no UKs that I know of. If anything, with the influx of all the latin players I think you could make an argument that it is becoming more of a latin game, but I don't even think that argument would hold.

It's true that baseball was played in both the UK and Australia before WW2, however the profile of the game increased tremendously due to the games that US servicemen played against local teams. Softball also took off in Australia after WW2 for the same reason.

It would probably be true to say that Baseball is as popular in the UK as Cricket is in the US. Very much a minority sport.

From a watching point of view, things have improved greatly over the past year. We now have the North American Sports Network on Satellite TV which has shown about 100 games live this season and will show all the post season action. It also shows College Football, NHL & College Basketball & NASCAR among other US sports related programs. The NFL & NBA are catered for on other channels.

It's a far cry from when I first became interested in Baseball 25 years ago. The only way to get any live action was to listen to the Armed Forces radio from Germany. Desperately trying to keep it tuned in as it was on AM only.

Good old days.

Application form submited via website for last remaining team - Rockies, by the looks of their UKBL career records they are a team that should be managed by a englishman, heroic failures
