Teaching New Position in Minors

Hi,

Question for the experienced OOTP fans out there: say you are trying to teach a young player in the minors a new position, say a 2B to learn to play 3B..... how long should it take? And if say, a few weeks have passed and he still hasn't learned the position, should I stop trying to teach him the position so as to avoid hindering his development?

Would appreciate any replies.
