The Complete MLB Historical Socks set, 1901-2024

I've finished creating socks and/or stirrups for every MLB team, from 1901-2024. No Negro league, Federal League or minor league socks at this time. I've tried to be as accurate as possible, drawing largely from the Dressed To The Nines HOF database, Chris Creamer's sports logo page, and historical photos and video. In all, this set contains 787 socks.

Stirrups became the norm for most teams starting from roughly the mid-1910's to the mid-1920's. Then, they were more or less the clothing code for stockings, continuing thru to the 70's and 80's and into 90's.

So in this set, the default socks for teams 1920ish-1990ish are stirrups, depending on when a team adopted them. I used two different lengths for stirrups; teams from the deadball era thru to the 30's generally wore much shorter stirrups that teams say from the 80's. I did not include "strap only" stirrups, the popular look in the 70's and 80's, with the pants covering the top of the stirrup, with only a line on the side over the sanitary sock showing.

With the 90's came the growing popularity of high socks, so in this set I use high socks as the default socks for teams starting in the 90's, but included a stirrup option as well for all teams 1990-2024.


Teams that wore the same socks for both home and away games, I labeled them as one sock. I only created separate files for socks if teams wore different socks for home and away games during those years. For example:

socks_boston_braves_1926-1927_home
socks_boston_braves_1928
socks_boston_braves_1929-1930
etc.



I did a number of historical alternates, however with modern teams I didn't include hardly any alternate or city connect socks. For those I highly recommend ZigglarsTusk evergreen set.


The greatest variety in socks came from the pre-1940's era. It seems like some deadball teams changed socks nearly every year. In the set you'll find 53 pairs of New York Giants socks alone!

UPDATE 1/25:
Added the 1901-1907 Boston Americans (Red Sox), and fixed the stripe on three pairs of Red Sox for accuracy purposes.

UPDATE 2/02/25:
Changed the color of stirrup stripes for the '47-'57 Tigers' teams. The HOF database has them as red, however upon further investigation, they were orange, which makes much more sense.

I have finished incorporating his socks into my uniform mod, but as luck would have it, the game does not import the socks automatically from the colors.xml, which I have painstakingly added each sock file to the seasons noted. Hoping they will fix that in the future. I will release the socks as part of an update soon
