Memory related crashes -- cannot access game
Over the past 3-4 days, I have had in-game crashes which seem to be related to memory issues.
A message flashes across the top of the screen at the time of the crash explaining what is happening, but it occurs so quickly. it is tough to read. So, I deleted the OOTP22, OOTP23, OOTP24 versions from my computer, since they seem to be taking up a large amount of space. (I have been playing three hours per day for years). When I went to access OOTP25, the startup icon was no longer on my home screen. Although all the necessary files seemed to be there in the OOTP25 folder. Any help would be appreciated. |

Memory has nothing to do with programs that aren't actually running. A program has to be running to affect memory. So if those old versions of OOTP aren't running when the crashes happen, there's no point in deleting them (unless you do want to clear space).
What is more likely to help would be to disable any startup apps that you really don't need to load at startup. Try not to have more tabs open in your browser than necessary (that's a very common memory problem). If any program seems to be using more memory than you think it should (looking at Task Manager or Resource Monitor), consider replacing it with an alternative program or try to use it less. And, if you're comfortable with it, look at the "services" that are automatically loading and disable those you don't need as well. Finally, here's an old post of mine with even more memory tips. What exactly is happening when these crashes occur? To diagnose whether you need to upgrade your memory, do what this link says to do. It's by far the best link on the topic I've ever come across. Also make sure to click on the jpg link as I didn't fully understand the instructions until I saw that image. A little while ago I thought I might have to upgrade my memory until I realized, no, I really didn't. The issues were elsewhere. I don't know why your startup icon would be missing. Did it just get moved? I know when I change resolutions my desktop icons get moved.
