Stanley Cup: Call it!

OK, why am I the one starting a Stanley Cup thread here? I guess I'm the only diehard hockey fan?

Anyway, so who is going to win this thing?

Of course I am on record as rooting for the DUCKS! all the way, baby! Since day 1 I was a believer! I have been wearing my DUCKS sweater all weekend to show my colors. Being 89 degrees yesterday here in SoCal, I looked like a goofball but us true hockey fans never let a little heat get to us! Right?!

Got a question: Apparently this Stanley Cup has all the names of all the players who have won this monstrosity of a trophy over the years. At what point will they run out of room? I would think by now that trophy must be pretty filled with obscure, hard to pronounce French-Canadian names by now. Exactly how many times can my DUCKS win the trophy before there is no more room for new winners? And then what will they do - etch the inside of the trophy? Get a new one started? Obviously us lifelong Ducks fans have never given much thought to this since it is the first time in our franchise's long and storied history we have a chance to win it.

There is a limit to the number of bands (rings) that are on the cup... once they are all filled up, the one at the top is taken off, and a new one is added to the bottom. The bands are kept in the Hall of Fame.

I'm rooting for the Ducks.

[fake Al Pacino voice]
Every time I think the Ducks are out, they pull out another win!

That said, I gotta stick with tradition and pick the Devils in 6. Sorry, LL. But I know those of you in Hockey Town, USA will stand behind your Ducks either way.

Maggie the Monkey picked the Ducks. Who am I to argue with her? She's been mostly right so far.

Ducks in 5.

I gotta go with the monkey (obviously). I think the series will go 6 or 7, but the extra rest the Ducks got will keep them fresher at the end of the series, and they'll pull it out.

New Jersey sweep.

Now, can we have some threads about real sports like NASCAR and Trick Shot Billiards?

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

We'll be able to pick up cheap ducks merchandise in a week at our local salvation army, after all the bandwagon fans discard all the stuff they bought in the last two weeks.

Devils in 4, maybe 5. Not that I'm rooting for a team that ruined hockey in 94 by introducing a coma-inducing style that mediocre teams like the ducks and the wild picked up over the years. The Devils are like most of Jersey - no room to move, boring, and just plain ugly to see. There's a reason they only sold out 4 of their 41 home games this year - no one wants to watch that crap.

Sorry. I just can't stand the way hockey is now days. I love the sport so much - it's by far my favorite - but I don't like the path it's taking.
