It's different things for different coaches. I'll post my personal notes below. I know it's a lot to get through, but it's not a simple topic. ** indicate headings, == indicate highlighting (importance).
Code:
**Links:** [OOTP23 Manual - Personnel Ratings](http://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?man=ootp23&page=personnel_ratings) [OOTP23 Manual - Overall Strategy](https://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?man=ootp23&page=overall_strategy) [OOTP Tutorial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izM5QzCM9-8) **Creating:** You can now create coaches (lg > txns > personnel > actions) and even turn retired players into coaches (lg > history > retired, but only some are eligible?) **Ratings (in order):** Legendary Outstanding Excellent Good Decent - it's higher than average! Average Fair Poor Inexperienced Unproven **Styles:** Conventional - nothing notable Small Ball - bunts, hit & run Tactician - match-ups, substitutions, pinch-hitting, shifts, stealing, aggressive base-running (everything high but H&R and bunting) ==My fav global strategy setting is "Moderate Tactician"== Sabermetric - base-running, shifts Unorthodox - everything notable https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/showthread.php?t=263701 **Personality:** Personable - will tend to be friendlier with the players, but may not have as much control in the room if the team is going through a tough stretch. Controlling - is more of the opposite; while some players will respect his style, many will not enjoy playing for him. However the controls should help the clubhouse from devolving into chaos. Temperamental - will tend to either love players or hate them, however there is often a reason that manager has made it that far despite his personality. Easygoing - will go with the flow; the players like him in good times, but might not in tough times. **General Manager:** Roster Strategy, Player Valuation, Trading Strategy, and Budget Allocation matter for them. Prioritize high Budgets and high (but not very high) "Player Loyalty" so they don't trade away your best/fav players. Maybe favour Prospects and Speed. "GM Roster Strategy and Valuation ratings heavily influence how they will allocate budgets and build their rosters. The Trading Strategy ratings determine both the frequency with which they will attempt to trade, as well as how aggressive they will be in trying to complete trades, how much they value long-time players (high loyalty GM's will be reluctant to part with fan favorites), and their general preference for younger players or veterans." **Field Manager / Head Coach:** Roster Strategy (who plays), Managing Style (strategy sliders), Personality (relationships), and Influence (development, mechanics, aging) matter. ==I think I'd prefer a guy who: has a Tactician style, has considerable influence, employs neutral roster strategy, and has a personality depending on if the team is an already good team or going through growing pains.== Managers cannot take one of the 4 new "teaching roles". So they don't really develop players in specific ways, just generally. You obviously don't want a minors manager who favours veterans. https://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?man=ootp23&page=personnel_ratings#managing_ratings **Bench Coach:** "Bench Coaches have the same kinds of ratings types as managers. Their training effects on players are slightly different, focusing more on running and fielding than other areas." https://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?man=ootp23&page=personnel_ratings#coaching_ratings "Bench coaches are responsible for helping the manager handle his responsibilities, especially during actual games. Bench coaches have some impact on all areas of play, including fielding. You have the option of delegating decision-making authority to your bench coach when [playing out a game](https://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?man=ootp16&page=play_by_play_mode_playing_out_games). A bench coach's [coaching ratings](https://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?man=ootp16&page=personnel_ratings#coaching_ratings) affect the play and [development](https://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?man=ootp16&page=player_development) of players on his specific team." https://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?man=ootp16&page=personnel_roles ==I like the idea of prioritizing relationships with my bench coach by going with a Personable personality. And then focus on development and mechanics (talent change), and then, finally, the 4 new coaching roles (C, IF, OF, running).== Or, maybe I'm doing it all backwards. A BC should probably focus on coaching first, managing second. Don't limit yourselves to people who only prefer a certain job. I've hired someone as a bench coach who didn't show up in that list before. **Base Coaches:** ==Prioritize in-game running (advancing runners extra bases and sending them home) and then the 4 new coaching roles (C, IF, OF, running).== **Scouting Director:** http://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?man=ootp23&page=scouting_directors#scouting_director_ratings "For building a franchise, it's "tools". Yes I may have a wiff or two, but shooting tor the stars and getting the moon still gives you something solid. For maintaining a franchise, it's "ability". Fill the pipeline with solid ML prospects and keep the pipeline primed." https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/showthread.php?t=322184 ==It might be best to choose neutral so the ratings are not swayed either way.== **Trainer:** ==Prioritize preventing arm injuries, then legs and back.==

Hey kq76:
Would it be OK to take the content in your code box and create a formatted color Word file that I can turn into a .pdf so folks can print it out for reference, etc? I'd be willing to run the versions by you to get feedback of course.

It's currently in "markdown" as I use Joplin so I get that it's probably difficult to read without being in something that reads that.

It may take me a bit to get something put together, but I'd like to start making a few "cheatsheets" and/or guides like I have for War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition by Matrix.
I will keep you up to speed on it. Thanks!
