I was curious to see how the game was handling free agency so I searched him up and found he was retired in the game. I hadn't really followed anything with him assuming he'd at probably sit out a year and maybe his career would be done, so seeing him retired got me digging and I learned he's signed in Japan. That created a new batch of questions for me...

1. Is he retired in the game because he signed with Japan?

2. Will he just be removed at some point, or does his status with the MLBPU protect his status in the game?

3. Can he be unretired?

I'm more curious about the long term impact of this situation on players that go to Japan (or any other international league for that matter) but are still possibly viable MLB players.

1. Yes.

2. No, he will always be part of MLB history and in the game. Even Marty Bergen is in the game.

3. Yes, in Commissioner Mode. This is how to handle anyone in a league not in the game. The retired status is short-cut to the fact they are not free agents.

1. It's likely due to multiple factors.

2. Since he's not officially retired I doubt he'll be removed but we'll have to wait and see what he does after 50 games are up.

3. Yes you can in Comish mode.

everyone always says commish mode, but:

1. Can you even use commish mode when you are playing with achievements on?
2. I can never find commish mode so I assume #1 is No.

If the above is true then there are lots of roster things I cannot even fix because of achievements mode.

I play in Commish Mode 100% of the time (you enable it when you begin a save), and I get achievements.

No, you can also enable it by going to (YOUR NAME) \ MANAGER OPTIONS in the main menu, and on the right side of the screen there is a checkbox to toggle it.

Go to your "manager" page (where you assign responsibility for tasks, etc.) and see if there is a checkbox there.

I only play with commish mode and Still get achievements, the only mode is challenge mode that you cant edit things or change things.

I have attached Screen shots with where to find Commish mode

I finally had a chance to try this today. No commish mode button anywhere to be seen on the manager screen. I was sure I wasn't missing it before. I have to think this is the challenge mode... it won't let me select it.

So I gotta say Challenge mode is a severe liability when the roster requires manual updates to make it more real life.

EDIT: Yup, looks like Challenge Mode can't be opted out of on the Manager Options page once started. That sucks.
