What Is Your Favorite New Orleans Team?
Today is Fat Tuesday and since I tend to make everything about New Orleans today in real life, just wondering what your favorite New Orleans team/design?
Mine is the New Orleans Brass Sox

New Orleans Jazz. Loved Pistol Pete Maravich. Followed them as a kid, and if they were still in New Orleans, I'd probably still be an NBA fan.
I can't get into the current New Orleans Pelicans. |

My favorite name for a team in New Orleans is the Pelicans.
They were in the Southern Association from 1887 to 1959. One of the New Orleans Zephyrs owners tried to buy the rights to the Pelican name from Tom Benson, the Saints owner, but he wanted to keep it in case he could get an NBA franchise. The colors were red and blue for most of the years in the Southern Association... they were black and yellow gold in the 1950 when they were affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates. I don't have the Black and Yellow Gold caps and jerseys for the New Orleans Pelicans, but I do have the logos.

Do a search in the mods section for New Orleans Brass. That's the one I like to use.

It was a pro basketball team in the late 60s, but I always like the name New Orleans Buccaneers... they played in the American Basketball Association... the name tied in with the city's Battle of New Orleans in 1812 when Jean Lafitte, Pierre Lafitte and Dominique You, three pirates, helped Andrew Jackson whipped the British in the Revolutionary War... but I think the war ended two weeks before the battle... no internet in those days.
I was in college at the time at LSUNO (now the University of New Orleans)... my college pals and I regularly watched the Bucs at Loyola Fieldhouse... I first saw my future wife at those games... she was a Buccaneer cheerleaders... yep, I was truly blessed to marry the girl 3 years later. Yep, the New Orleans Buccaneers have a dear place in my heart and my life. |

Sorry, I hate this one. It looks like the work of a third rate designer a few weeks from retirement.

This thread makes me want to make something out of the Preservation Hall logo, or maybe there should be a St. James Infirmary baseball team

Agree with Leo the Lip... this was a loser... everyone in New Orleans hated it.
There is no such thing as a baby cake... the term is king cake, a very popular cinnamon roll-type cake... it comes with a small baby inside... whoever gets the slice with the baby has to bring a king cake the next day at work. |

Personally, I don’t like the Utah Jazz because of Stockton and Malone, but to me also whenever I think of that nickname, I think of that Brooklyn 99 episode where Jake starts scatting every time he says the word “jazz” and therefore the team is always in my head as the “Utah spit spot spiddy spoddy dibadeedoo Jazz”. YMMV

Yep, Kingfish is a good one, too.
I always like nickname based on regional history. It based on Louisiana Governor Huey Long from the 1930s... he was a quasi-dictator that was assassinated in 1935... he was a progressive politician... was a control freak... but did a lot for poor people... he made textbooks free in school. Long's nickname was Kingfish, a character in the Amos and Andy comic strip. Last edited by Eugene Church; 02-24-2023 at 09:17 AM. |
