So, when do we get a 24 update?
It's about that time!

They'll probably announce the pre order date sometime in Feb and then the details on features will come out close to the release date

I’m holding out hope they are able to fix this Nippon league kerfuffle by the time 24 comes out so I’m not discouraging anyone buying the new version, least not until we get more info. |

The OOTP 22 teaser trailer dropped February 22, 2021, so I'd expect something next month.

Things were a little late last year (partly because of the lockout, but more largely due to some backend service provider issues they ran into). Hopefully they are back on the previous timeline, but the way things are going lately I wouldn't be surprised by a delay of a few weeks.

I can give you a preview
It will be a list of bug fixes, then a list of features that have been in the series now that are being tweaked or fixed to actually work correctly. The 2-3 features that will be big features to a small subset of people and you might be in that small subset based on how you play the game. I would love to be wrong, but that has been the features list for about 4 versions now. |

Guess I'm lucky to be in the "small subset of people" who play single-player GM and online leagues, where there have been huge improvements every version for the last 4+ years.

That's why I went with OOTP 22 from 2021 which didn't have the delays.

It's a baseball game, there is only so much one can do. v1, after all, already had three bases and home plate. ![]() For playing out games, unless it goes to a physics model, development will always(?) be tweaks and small additions, I think? Transactions, like all sports sims, will continually be "improved" so, for many, not sexy. Database/stat keeping improvements come version to version. When they add something like SIERA they get a response something like "it should have already been there. It's hardly an addition." It's the same for many things that are already in the game. IE they will never be seen as "new" but only "improved". Well yeah, what else can they be? The elephant in the room is how far will they, or do the want to, go down the "front office operations" path? This is the area that a lot of users here ask for and want/expect an FM type of depth. Fair enough request and understand their desire to have these type of financials. If this were added there would be some joy from users because OOTP is finally making "BIG STEPS" while others would find it "not sexy" and "a version I could just as well skip". Me? If it were FM depth I'd hand most of it off to my staff. That doesn't mean I'd complain that another area of the game was "forgotten about" or there was "nothing new" in OOTP for me. I would still "buy a license" for the game and be happy for those that finally "got theirs". I've never played PT nor have I even loaded it up for a "look see". I have no interest. I am also not a PT hater but, for my style of play, I think it has lead to huge improvements in OOTP proper. However for those that want the FM type front office experience? I will concede that PT is probably a huge stumbling block to getting that type of front office experience. At least AFAIK there are no financials in PT which means any financial improvements are an "OOTP only" feature. This doesn't mean there can't\won't be financial improvements but, IMHO, means we won't see a "big, bright, new" financial model as a key release feature. Instead it will probably always(?) be small improvements from version to version. In the end I get my money's worth from OOTP every year. YMMV.

Not anymore Sweed. Obviously you know me as one of those people who would like to see augmented front office features....but now with what's going on (at it could very well potentially get worse) the ability to take those "BIG STEPS" is now gone. I really don't plan on making OOTP a part of my lobbying experience any longer unless something drastically changes (or goes back to the way it was). So, no worries....but in all honesty I think the best days of OOTP are behind us at this point. |

The game has grown into a direction that does not personally suit me. Less of a GM/front office sim and more of a baseball universe simulator with a heavy dose of gatcha card collecting mechanics. And that is fine. I am just one person. I don't expect them to develop the game just for me. I check on every version but I am turning into an every third year purchaser due to how little the game changes. But again, those are changes I find personally meaningful. Others may find that the changes are more for them. Last edited by rudel.dietrich; 01-20-2023 at 12:42 AM. |

I'm glad the version I download is the one that has astronomical GM/Manager-only improvements every year and not the weird version some other people report getting that doesn't have any major changes from one version to the next.

Certainly one can extrapolate a lot of that info based on existing numbers (although even there, Ks are so, so, so much more a part of the game now than they were even in the 1970s, let alone the 20s, that this is bound to be "off"), but that's going to be a definitionally imperfect process at best. Like, it's very easy to just take Joe Schmoe's actual BABIP from 1925, compare it against other 1925 players, and assign that accordingly. You might be able to put algorithms in place that can kinda-sorta figure out physics ratings but they very often will not line up with a player reputation and on top of that will probably produce some weird individual stats, especially in the first few iterations while those algorithms get hammered out. I can say this right now that people who run long-term saves will probably not want to upgrade those into a physics based system because fictional or otherwise those players won't translate. I think fictional will probably wind up working sooner than historical but I don't think there are very many of us who play that way TBH. And there are so, so many knock-on effects... we have a good grasp on how walk rates and K rates and so on age, but what about spin rate and O-Swing percentage? Again, I very much look forward to that change but if people are this mad about a legal necessity to change the Racist Baseball Association (and again, I appreciate that it's a very large change, and I'll go so far as to say that I personally might have done things that I can't say I did because it could potentially make OOTPD legally liable if people followed my advice), they will be absolutely foot-stompingly furious when - not if, when - the new physics engine "breaks the game". I would even go so far as to say that this massive change will be blamed on Perfect Team.

I am glad that some people get a lot out of each release and find what they need. I don’t hate that. There are just not many changes that are personally meaningful to me since say OOTP 19 Others agree with me, many others do not agree with me. It is hard to satisfy everyone for a game that comes out yearly. I will for sure check out OOTP 24 when and if it is announced and see what will be new additions. I have low expectations. But I would love for those low expectations to be shattered. |
