It just gets more bizarre
Ok, perhaps some have been following my Edwin Diaz "story". To summarize I signed him to a 3 year, $30+ million contract. He completely tanked in year one. On a level I think is completely unbelievable.
I believe, partially, because closers get screwed in this game..caught in the wake of code that, at some level or priority, plays with wins/losses (it's been denied, but I can still believe what I want to believe). i.e. Player's team needs to lose this game..blow the 9th inning save. Perhaps not, but If it quacks like a duck... Anyway, all the rationalizing by the gatekeepers will never explain why something so before happened for the 2nd straight year. I posted about Tom Ricketts wanting to retain Andrelton Simmons last year after he posted a .169 BA. This year, oh man..it's just so ironic/bizarre, Rickett's is requesting I sign..you guessed it..Edwin Diaz. But to add a little ridiculous to the bizarre..Diaz is already signed for the next couple years and won't talk extension until his existing contract is over. Now, c'mon guys..can you address some of these bizzaros before next year's release. It takes all fun out of playing the game when I see code that is just plain lazy..or just not tested. Not sure which. I don't want to play Fictional leagues. I want to play with real rosters. Why would I buy the game new each year if I merely wanted to play Fictional. Why would anyone. Those that purchase a new version each year..likely want to play with the new REAL teams. So, please, quit steering us to play Fictional because you know . I realize it's so-so-so much easier to hide the unusual by making all players anonymous. But, that doesn't hide the fact that if unbelievable (by that I mean - completely unrealistic and prevalent) results are prevalent in Standard Real mode..they are just as bizarre and screwy in Fictional mode. ![]()

Can't speak on owners goals because I don't use them. I've always thought they were pretty dumb and overly random so I just turn them off. However, you completely missed the point of the fictional thing. No one said it makes it so people don't see things happen, it's just easier to rationalize when you don't attach bias to a name.

Do yourself a favor and just stop playing. You clearly have a mile-long list of issues with the game. Pestering everyone on these forums will never make the game what you want it to be.

Technically every save is fictional. Unless you play historical and nothing changes from what happened in real life.
I’d caution coming to these boards for help with your frustrations with the AI. One, you’ll most likely be met with people who will dismiss you out of hand because they feel superior and second, because the company is now focused on PT and their mobile game. Sure they will polish the roster and UI every year, and maybe make a few new graphical things. But FM also does that, and they haven’t produced a quality FM title in years. I suggest save scumming when stupid AI things happen. It’s your game- no one know or care if you do.

Have you considered giving a fictional save a try?

I’m no programmer, but as an avid user I have trouble seeing your Diaz fiasco as “lazy code”. If anything, it’s hyperactive code gone haywire.
The owner goals can be a distraction. Since I always check the box “can’t be fired”, I tend to ignore them. It does feel odd to have an owner who appears to be clueless. But, hey, as long as the money is there, I’ll have to grin and bear it. There seems to be a disconnect between owner goals and any consequences, so no big deal. I’d turn them off, but they are entertaining. The fact is, relievers are more volatile than starters, and moreso than position guys, and closers are the most fickle of all. So a formerly ace closer blowing up does not seem outrageous to me. Now, if it was my guy, I’d be pissed for sure. Not everybody can accept too much randomness in the game. I get that. I’m fine with it; but that’s because when I play historical seasons, I’m not intending to duplicate the actual results (which would be boring), but toying around the edges with finances and trades and free agents. So surprises are mostly okay with me. Not my guys, though! Of course, for every blowup there is a non-entity who becomes a star. Works both ways. Last edited by Pelican; 08-21-2022 at 12:21 AM. |

The hints that I'm picking up from the responses here are people are tired of these posts and tired of the poster. Some are sugar coating it, others are not.
Pick up on the hints, man. Okay. This game isn't for you. We ALL get that. So stop playing it and leave already.... My god, this is sooooo played out and tiring at this point. (this thread is hilarious at this point --- https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=340178) |

All that is needed is a little discipline from the users here. IE don't respond and it will stop.

have you looked at the owner page to see the goals? sometimes they have them set to be accomplished by a certain season. he may have it set so he wants you to resign him by the year that his deal is up. which, in that case, is not that crazy of a goal

This is what I was going to say. Oftentimes, many of the Owner's goals are not just for the next year. For example I have a goal to increase attendance numbers....but I get two seasons to do it. I have another goal to make the World Series....but I have (I think) 4 seasons in which to do it. I would guess the "sign Edwin" goal is one you are being asked to do before his contract expires, so you could just wait until his last season.

For me if everything turned out as it is IRL I wouldn't play the game. What would be the point. And to make matters worse you putting human thought into Artificial Intelligence.I alsoturn off owners goals. When I started this year before I could get to turning owners goals off, they wanted me to resign Jose Abreu to a 3 years extension at $22 million. lmao.I would resign if pressed but not at that price & besides Vaughn is pretty good in the game BB Bottomline....play the game as you want..... |

Even a crazy bastard shouldn’t be telling you to improve the cohesion of a happy coaching staff. That’s messed up.

Just face it, you are a terrible GM......maybe the Cubs should fire you since you can't even find a good closer.
