how do you play
do you guys prefer just to GM? do you manage each game or just some of the games? have heard some of the guys say they just watch the league, can you tell me the joy of that? just curious or am i missing something because i dont get the jot of that aspect

Right now I'm waiting to start a new fresh MLB sim where I'll sim the first year and take the worst team and play out every game. I'm waiting on a patch to fix some things like the MLB History having some errors with the Rays missing. I really want to play now though so I'm simming the entire history of baseball starting in 1871 and watching to see how the league progresses, who makes it big, who doesn't, etc. It's really interesting. I'm in 1937 and the Pirates have 17 championships and the Yankees have 1. |

I have a league that I just watch. I watch it the same as I watch real life baseball. It's very easy to get involved if you follow along.

Interesting. Sounds fun. How do you take over a team? I sim'ed through a season but can't find that option.

start a game, sim for a bit and then just look for available jobs, that should do the trick...its the menu under your name at the top

Yep - as mentioned, just look at avail jobs right as the offseason begins. That's when I take over. I play in commish mode so that I can make sure the job is available, but afterwards you could turn it off or do whatever (although it'll probably be available without commish mode).

Bluenoser, when you play do you actually play out games or just sim? How long to complete a season? Thanks.

Play every teams home opener. Play 2 - 3 games a day plus all-star game. In Sept play more games - pennant races are on ![]() Play all play-off games. On avg, I do 2 - 3 seasons a week. (I'm retired)

That is a lot of games to play! Did I understand correctly that you play 2-3 games per sim day or is it 2-3 per real life day? I’m clearly not doing enough in retirement.

This is how you're supposed to spend retirement - just change the word "nothing" to "OOTP" _ Last edited by Bluenoser; 04-24-2022 at 08:36 PM. |

I do go through periods where I'll just take 2 or 3 days away from the game. I also slow down at times too.
I never tire of playing OOTP, but I'm not naive enough to think I won't get burn out

It's great to see that other gamers enjoy spectator mode, too. Definitely my favorite way to play. Also, enjoy creating a few fictional players per season and watching their career develop. That keeps thing fresh. Usually take off a month or so between seasons in order to rejuvenate. But, at times I'll head right into the next season.

GM/Manager. I play out every game with a handful of exceptions (like the game on draft day, the GM has to be elsewhere for the draft so the bench coach can handle things, right?). Those exception games I still set my lineup but I simply sim the game instead of playing it out.

I've always played with scouts off, hell I don't even like injuries most of the time though I have adapted to allow them in my solo leagues. Fictional players always, I've gradually started to prefer real teams to fictional ones but sometimes those ideas converge if my league lasts long enough. I like seeing histories form and evolve and happen over time, I don't enjoy micromanagement and also...some of us have been playing the game for like decades and played other management games too, after a certain point you don't have the time or the energy to get caught up in detailed storylines. But I admire the folks who can play games out and care about managerial decisions.

I play as mgr/gm in one pitch mode. Since I am retired I usually get 5 games completed in a day. I'll play when watching the news of when my wife is watching one of her dozen favorite cooking shows. Bahahahahaha !!!
Each game usually takes about 20 minutes. |

I'm a spectator mode guy all the way. I watch a game per day and will often watch several game per day in September.
Would love to know if others that play this way grew up playing a lot of the card/dice baseball sims in solo fashion? I did and I think that plays into why I enjoy just watching more than managing or acting a gm. |

I have been playing for 2 years and im yet to get involved in a game, i always start over or want to do something different...an i cannot decide if i find managing more fun or as a GM...just keep going back and fourth...the thought of managing is the way to go but then i tend to get bored then i end up simming th rest of the game, the problem isi always seem to do a better job managing myself, just because hired managers just do not seem to do a very good job!

I take 1 current team and I manage/GM that team.
I manage every single game for the MLB team and do all GM duties for the entire organization. I don't manage the games for the minor league teams within the organization, though I do keep tabs on them and will give special instruction for certain prospects. I'll sim a week or 2 at a time during the dead parts of the offseason. |
