Development Target Age & Aging Target Age
I'm curious what these new Player Development Settings do exactly.
The options within each are: Much Younger Younger Default Older Much Older Choosing them does not affect the Aging or Development Speed Settings. My guess is that it is essentially adjusting the general age that a player will stop developing or begin aging compared to the system default. However, confirmation on that would be cool (and if that is the case it would be nice to know what those default ages are so as to know what would be considered Younger or Older). |

Yeah, basically. So like, if you want to play in a league where players get almost fully developed at 18, then choose much younger. If you want guys to be really slow at learning and take until they're like 24-25, then go much older. Basically another way to handle development speed

How does it work with Development Settings?
If I set Player aging to .875 say, but set the Aging Target to Older, won't those counter each other? |

It sounds like if you set the Aging Target to Older, players will go into their primes and start their decline later, whereas setting Aging to some number under 1 will make the aging itself be shallower.

So isn't there a tutorial that explains with examples how these work?

I turned off all of those like 10 seconds into the game (nothing against tutorials; it's just, my ADHD brain automatically says NOPE to anything like that, even if it means slamming my head against the wall for several hours) so I am not the best person to ask that question to...

I would say it's more that the target is technically when they stop developing or start aging, and the speed is then how fast they go. So an aging target of "older" means they should stick around at their peak for an extra year or two.
There is a slight correlation between them, in that if you have the developing target set to older, players will develop a little slower than otherwise, so that it does somewhat space out the development in those years. So yes, you can somewhat tweak the 2 to counter each other if you want, but it's mostly about giving an extra axis to play with. |

I like the idea, but since development/aging is separate for pitchers and batters this should be too.
I'd like to extend pitcher aging by using "older" but I don't want it to apply to hitters.

I’ll be honest: with pitchers, once you let the game engine do its thing, the biggest drain on pitchers as they get older is that nearly all starters get very injury prone and eventually can’t be counted on to play for an entire season. This totally should happen with some guys but IME the only guys who get up to their early to mid 30s that this doesn’t happen to are guys who weren’t really good enough to play regularly when they were younger.
I know that the game puts a lot more emphasis on abusing pitchers when they’re younger so I don’t know 100% if this is an issue with the AI abusing younger pitchers or if it’s just the accumulated weight of a realistic number of injuries doing all of that. I will say that I think you only observe this 20+ years into a save so it might not be a thing very many people ever encounter.

So if I set development target age to younger/much younger it should help High Schoolers develop faster? That’s been my biggest issue |

Does setting the development age younger make it any more/less likely a player will actually develop fully (since there is less time to the target date)? If you set "Younger" do you also need to set it to "Faster" to avoid that setting creating a larger number of busts? More details about how these work together would be nice. |

I would guess that is the case since players develop while in HS since they are created at 14
