What is everyone's favorite way to play OOTP?

I myself like to have fictional leagues with real teams. However this year I might try gming and managing in a historical season like managing the 1955 Dodgers for example.

I'm currently the manager/GM of the Cubs and starting in 2020. I'm doing a "What If Covid Had Never Happened?" replay and going to continue into 2021 where we're going to adopt the Universal DH and in 2022 going to expand to two more teams and realign the divisions into 4 four-team divisions in each league.

*** is exceedingly my jam, GM primarily but I may do GM+Mgr next save. I'm tempted to try an historical MLB save, but trying to eventually manage seven levels of minors sounds like my day job.

For many years I only played fictional players with real leagues/teams, but recently I started a real world "challenge mode" game. It's been fun, but not sure I'll stick with it. I'll probably start a new game with OOTP 23.

Fictional teams, real players, using their career averages upon import.

Playing out entire 162 game schedule for my chosen team that year, single pitch, Commish mode.

God mode, controlling all teams in a league, fictional players but real teams. I base trades, purchases, and waiver signings on the real life equivalents and play out every game from the 7th inning on, mostly handling substitutions. My current dynasty is currently in 1970 after I simmed 1946-1968 and spent the better part of last year playing 1969 “live”.

Online leagues. I prefer the competition of trading with real people.

Hmmm I have never grasped the allure of fictional players. I like to replay historical seasons, erasing the color bar in pre-1947 years. Typically I’ll take charge of a moribund team (usually the Phillies; but sometimes the Philly A’s), inject some funds, try to improve upon woeful performance. Or work with present day teams, only the Pirates, Orioles, Royals have funds and actually try to improve. One project involved the 1914 season, with a few more signings for the Federal League, including a young George Herman Ruth to the Baltimore Terrapins. A great “what if” with three major leagues. the most labor-intensive is an 1884 season replay, including the Union Association and the Wilmington Quicksteps, who played up the street from where I now live.

On the pc I play real rosters as GM only. On my iPad I play out my games. I will do perfect team for a few months as well. But I won’t pay to win in PT.

Random debut

I set up a quick game using random debut. It is really cool. For ootp 23 I am going to set up a league starting in 1971 my birth year, with players from 1960-1993. And do an auto inaugural draft then play as the Yankees. I will have this set up for career play.

Hey any of you guys like to watch College baseball? I love it and would love to see a mod of it for ootp.

Anyone keeping up with MLB spring training? I watched only one game so far but I am going to watch more tomorrow.

Let me know I look forward to your thoughts.

Sim the current season and maybe another one or two, then expand the league by two teams and take over one of them and do the challenge of starting with pretty much nothing.

The past couple years I have played primarily PT. This year I am going to play the career game some though. I am thinking of taking the Rangers and trying to see if the future can be positive with this year's team moving forward.

Fictional players and fictional teams and leagues. that way I don't have to worry or cry or complain about how Player A was traded or his batting avg was .2 off his real output.

Fictional Leagues, nearly always variants on the same few ideas.

Fictional leagues, fictional players. Start in 1871 and build a complete baseball world. Watch it grow and then when i feel like it I jump into a failing team and see what I can do. I really feel connected to the fictional players watching them grow old and all the accomplishments, the failures, the superstars, the has beens and the never were's. Feels great.

On-Line

OnLine League as Commish whereas I reboot with every new release of OOTP. So, we complete 6 to 8 seasons before a restart with each new game !
