politics in signature lines

Maybe we can make a politics forum and not allow them in signature lines?
If people want to malign others they can have separate forum?

Is this really an issue? Scanning the sigs of some of the dooshiest political-spouting fellows on the boards, I can only find one (quick search) who has a sig that is both political and nasty or attacking. Granted, I could be looking in the wrong place or missing some...

For me, I don't really notice the signature stuff, but when I do, if it's of the nasty-political variety, I find it informative. At least you know the type of person you're dealing with, right off the bat. YMMV.

There already is a forum for that kind of thing, it's called Off Topic/Debates, but no one is subscribed to it by default, they need to enable it.

I agree that this forum should not be used for political nonsense, but if someone has something like "Flair/Anderson 2024" in their signature, who cares? If that person's signature bothers you so much, there is a way to ignore a user (or there used to be) and you will never see them or their signature again.....it came in handy with a certain "CB" user before they got the boot.

Well, fred, instead of complaining you could go along with the flow. Take some of the content of your posts and put them into a sig. Y'know, like the one complaining about San Diego's fat goofy Padre as justification for the Indians.

Foisting your beliefs on someone at a baseball forum seems somehow akin to the pseudo-intellectual version of wearing a political t-shirt to a black tie dinner.

A sig's content is not a discussion nor an invitation for a discussion. As long as it's not outright hateful or criminal stuff, just ignore it. And if you have trouble ignoring it, you need help.

I want something where you can actually react in a variety of ways to a post.

Here's how it is in another forum I frequent:

(left to right: like, agree, disagree, laugh, winner, thanks, interesting, useful, wow, and sad)

It actually helps users connect and identify with each other a lot.

Depends on what their politics are. Are their politics good or bad?

Must be bad. There's no such thing as good politics.

We used to have "Thanks" here; unfortunately it was removed because on vBulletin that turned out to be a security issue (admittedly, that has got to be some dumb, dumb setup that causes that but hey, OOTPD is in the business of micromanagement-intensive baseball simulations, not bulletin board software).

I have never noticed anything, and I don't think it needs to be "policed"
