By his own admission, on his own forums, Paul hasn't even looked at the code in over a year. And he has now even mentioned the possibility of selling. That says a lot imho.

I am sure Paul had good intentions when he bought it (along with Marc Vaughan iirc) but the whole project has been almost farcical from the beginning. I remember screenshots of TBCB 2013 were released to various boxing websites and forums showing a fight taking place between Lennox Lewis v Joe Calzaghe, much to the derision of boxing fans. Absolute amateur hour.

If you're going to make a sports game, make sure you know your subject.

I'm really not expecting anything from Paul. If, by some miracle, he produces something, I expect it will be another sub-par product.

Only an outfit like OOTP can produce a quality pro-boxing sim.

Now there's a good idea.

Pretty sure OOTP has the creative staff and game-making knowhow to turn out a first-rate upgrade of Title Bout.

Your name is not familiar, did you ever play Title Bout? The real devotees are still running one or more AUs. Some may even play OOTP baseball....

Played it quite a bit, but just couldn't wrap my head around it. Guess I was looking for it to be similar to OOTP baseball which I've been playing since version four. From what I remember, it was more of a simulation, no career mode for us as a Manager, couldn't train the fighters. Maybe some of that has changed, but I followed this forum for awhile hoping for an improved version, but became frustrated and gave up.

I was hoping more for a game I used to play in the 90's, and I keep thinking it was World Championship Boxing Manager, but looking that up, it's not the game, but was called something like that. It had black & white photos of two boxers, and when you fought, it was giving you a play by play, and you could see how good or bad your fighter was doing. You could also raise money by betting on fights. It was not an arcadish game, but a regular sim game. I believe you could have up to nine fighters in your stable, and could sell them off, and buy new fighters. They had real fighters, and then of course, fictional ones as well. One guy I believe developed it. And after a fight, you had to train your fighter back to full strength before another fight, which depending on the fighter, could take weeks or more.(game time).

I realize people might scratch their heads "Who is this guy?" since I don't post a lot.

But I play this game practically every day. Entire fictional universe with the fighters from the WMMA5 (MMA Sim) series in a boxing lore universe.

Anyhow, I truly think something this game needs if anything is to go over to another medium to get it out there. Discord is what I would say.

As of posting on 6/10/21 I got someone to purchase TB 2.5 from discord the other day. Might be something to consider, old-timers to the game!

And I say this, with all due respect as a newbie to you all!

I've been playing since the beginning. I couldn't play if for several years after a Windows 10 update. I thought that was the end of the game for me (this is version 2.5.27 of course). Then, out of the blue there was another Windows 10 update and, for some reason, I decided to check to see if the game would work... And sure enough, it now works flawlessly!

The only problem is that now I live in fear (not literally... there are far more important things going on in the real world... but you know what I mean) that there will come a Windows update that will cause the game not to work again. It's kind of a bummer that it's really just a matter of time until advancing technology will cause this fine sim to no longer work forever.

Wait....Let me check.

Yup. Still pretty grizzled. That ointment really works.

I'm hanging on like a barnacle on a rotting hull. Doesn't seem to be that many of us left. Just the diehards. Like the few remaining Foreign Legionnaires at Fort Zinderneuf....

Sad

I always felt like the game itself had so much room to improve as a simulation. The number of things they could have added or enhanced in this already very good game is mind boggling.

Instead, they decided to go down the rabbit hole of a "management sim". As if you couldn't introduce management dynamics into a universe with a little imagination and creativity.

They had built the foundation of an awesome sim and then abandoned it. Too bad, I would have bought updates year after year if they kept improving the game itself (even without a management module) and I find it hard to believe I am alone in that.

But, they know how it sold, so I guess they know better....still disappointing though.

It’s kind of a big game and I know there were ambitions to create a universe around it. If you think it’s easy, and I mean this non sarcastically, by all means learn how to code and be the person who takes over. I could take a look at the code myself but I sure as hell would not promise anything or purchase it unless the price was very, very low, as I have other things I prefer to do in my free time.

But seriously, by all means learn to code. It’s actually not as opaque as people think, even though you do have to train your brain to think like a computer thinks, and sometimes working on someone else’s old code is harder than building your own, but it can be done. Hell, Markus started somewhere himself…

Seems like it would take a crew from OOTP to just fix the few problems with the game as it stands, never mind adding a career mode. From what I understand from Andreas, that was a no-go with the current configuration. It was incapable of expansion in that direction, which is why Paul Norman started almost from scratch.

At this point I would be very happy if version 2.5.27 is never updated again... as long as it always continues to work regardless of where Windows goes. The upcoming Windows 11 has me pretty nervous as far as how it might impact whether this game continues to work on my computer or not.
