MicroLeague?

Hi,

I apologize for the newbie question. I'm trying to figure out how to play one-on-one or one vs. the computer in manager mode. I'm trying to recreate something simple, similar to the old MicroLeague game. I'm not interested in being a GM, playing a season, etc. Just a one-off game as a manager.

My thinking is that this will be the easiest way to start learning OOTP and to get my 7-year-old son interested in. To be honest, all of the options on startup look great, but it's wayyyy too much for me, and my son, to sort through just to get started.

So, does anyone know a simple way to just jump in and start playing?

Thanks!

spent many years wearing out discs playing micro league way back when.... good times.

if you're just looking to play a single game (not the full season, as you said), then your best option is the "Historical exhibition"... click that to get to the 'setup teams & rules' page...

from there, select your home/away teams (fun part here is you can pit any team from any year against each other)... at the bottom, change the series length to 1 game (if all you want is a one-and-done type of play), and whether or not you want the DH used... then click 'create exhibition'

on the next screen, if you want to adjust the lineups, you can do that here... then click 'play ball'

next screen, just click 'play' (simulate will just sim the game and give you a final score)

next screen, if you want one team to be controlled by the computer, click the "set all to Computer AI" just below the team name near the top (all the drop-down boxes will then change to reflect that.... then click 'start game'

should be good to go.... use the numbers indicated at the top to pitch/bat... it will probably default to a one-pitch mode, so when you click 1 for pitch, it will be the 'payoff' pitch (i.e. - a 2-2 count shows and results in a strikeout)... if you want to play out pitch-by-pitch, click the slider in the middle of the top bar...

other than that, have fun!

I'll let you follow Stl Jason's good directions for help with your specific question, but I am relatively new to OOTP and was a Micro League player back in the day too. When Micro League released their stats expansion disk, I was so excited not to have to hand-write and calculate pitching and batting stats.

If you liked stats from that game, you'll be immersed in the layers with this one.
