Schedule Request - 24 teams - 108 games

Thank you in advance for anyone who can do this.

I am looking for a schedule of 24 total teams divided into two subleagues. Each subleague has 2 divisions of 6 teams.

My request is for a schedule that has no interleague play but it does have an all-star game.

Teams play within their division Friday-Sunday (3-game series) and play against the other division Tuesday-Wednesday (2-game series). Every Monday and Thursday are off days.

Teams play 4 three-game series against their division = 60 games
Teams play 4 two-game series against the other division = 48 games
Total games = 108

The season can start on a Tuesday in April and end on a Wednesday in August to accomodate the all-star game one Tuesday or Wednesday preferably in early July, 21 total weeks. Therefore, a team begins and ends their season against opponents from the other division.

Please let me know if you have a schedule or can make one. I appreciate it!

Sorry for the wait. Getting ready to start on this one but there are some issues with the math - you have it set up so teams will play 24 series against the other division, but 20 against their own division, which obviously won't work totally if you want them to always alternate like that. My suggestion is to keep the 21-week format, but replace one weekend set with a pair of 2-game series Thurs-Sun, and start the season with a Saturday-Sunday 2-game set as well. That gets you to 24 and 20. If it's critical that every Thursday be an off day, there are probably other workable ways to do it.

Doh! Until you pointed it out, I didn't even realize my mistake in accounting for the 6th team in the other division in the weekly schedule.

I want to say first that I appreciate it that you are giving this time! I am combining my Fallout dynasty league from 4 separate leagues to one 24-team league since the association is not working as I would like.

I pencilled out the schedule, and I think this would work for me:

To accomodate the 8 games I forgot about in my request, make it a 22-week schedule. The first two weeks would only be against teams from the other division with a busy first week of 6 games (3 2-game sets).

The first game would still be a Tuesday, but the first week is (O=other division + D = same division):

Wk 1 = Tue-Wed - O1x2, Thu-Fri - O2x2, Sat-Sun - O3x2
Wk 2 = Mon off, Tue-Wed - O4x2, Sat-Sun - O5X2
Wk 3 = Tue-Wed - O6x2, Fri-Sun = D1x3

That seems to make the math work as I intended with every other week except the all-star game week being an alternating 2 games vs the other division and 3 games vs the same division opponents.

All in all this one turned out to be fairly easy to fit together!

Schedule for 24 teams, 108 games - 2 subleagues, each with 2 divisions of 6 teams
Interleague NO, balanced games NO
----------
12 games vs. 5 division opponents (6H/6A)
8 games vs. 6 league opponents (4H/4A)
----------
Season begins on the first Tuesday of April and ends on the first Sunday of September
All games begin at 7:05 PM local time, except Sundays which are 1:05
All-Star Game scheduled for the first Tuesday in July
----------
Every Monday is an off day, as is every Thursday except the first week of the season. In all, teams play their 108 games in 153 days, nicely spread out.
I don't think there are any road trips or homestands longer than eight games. Could be wrong about that but I think that's right.

I've got a test league open & it looks good from here but LMK if there are any issues.

If I wanted to tweak this schedule to add two weeks prior to this week, can I use negative number values to add time before the schedule? I would like to add 12 more games all interleague for a total of 120 games, so could I change the lines like this to add all 144 interleague matchups at the beginning of the season?

From:
<SCHEDULE type="ILN_BGN_G108_SL1D2T6T6SL2D2T6T6" inter_league="0" balanced_games="0" games_per_team="108" start_month="4" start_day="1" start_day_of_week="3">

To:
<SCHEDULE type="ILY_BGN_G120_SL1D2T6T6SL2D2T6T6" inter_league="1" balanced_games="0" games_per_team="120" start_month="4" start_day="-13" start_day_of_week="3">

<GAMES>
<GAME day="-13" time="1905" away="1" home="13" />
.
.
.
<GAME day="-1" time="1905" away="24" home="1" />

<GAME day="1" time="1905" away="1" home="12" />

I don't know, try it. if it doesn't work, it's fairly easy to use excel to adjust all the day numbers. If it doesnt work, send me the file in a DM

It was easier just to change the schedule. I am using the =SUBSTITUTE feature to change them all. Do you have a suggestion for a better function for an intermediate Excel user? It took me about an hour to move every game 14 days later, but could I have been more efficient?

I decided to just make the schedule a 1-167 schedule instead of the -13-153 schedule I was going to attempt.

It’s hard to explain quickly over text, but you’d want to first split the data into multiple columns using the “text to column” feature on the data tab. Then once you isolate the days into a single column, you can create a new column with a formula that adds 14 to every number. Paste that new column over the old column as text and there you have it

Or you could just chain regexes like I do.
