What’s your custom league?
I’m curious what custom leagues y’all are playing. I think it’s fun to hear what other people come up with.
I’m playing a league set in Tamriel from Elder Scrolls. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm telling the story of a league in a world I created. The pre-history stuff went quick and then I really slowed things down around 1830. I'm about ready to run 1860 soon. I created a google site for it and everything. I may share it on the forum one day.

Set in 1996 on California's Central Coast, the Mission League was formed when the MLB strike dragged on and on to a point in mid-'95 when it became clear the show was over. Santa Maria business interests convinced native son Robin Ventura that he could be the centerpiece of a 12-team circuit. Then Robin's MLB friends wanted *somewhere* to play, so they joined him.
And that's how we got ML MVP Ellis Burks of the Lompoc Flowers (although the award should've gone to teammate Greg Maddux). |

I'm working through tests for a league where baseball in the U.S. develops with Promotion/Relegation. It will start in 1871 with 8 clubs and grow to have over 400. Hoping to create a dynasty thread about it.

I've tried all kinds of custom fictional leagues over the years, but couldn't get any to really stick, and I think I know why... I tried making leagues where I could control a team I had some ties to, but the leagues never felt like they could be real. I actually typed up some of my past leagues, but deleted them because they would be another couple posts of their own. The tldr of it though is that I found myself wanting to change either the cities or nicknames of teams in the league, and could never get them to feel "right" to me. They were all also state/regional leagues, and it drove me crazy that in my alternate universe, there was still baseball out there in other regions that wasn't in my game. To avoid both of these problems I was having, I made my current league!
I am absolutely hooked on my current fictional league, "Baseball City". I decided to fully lean into the fictional aspect of fictional leagues. I'm from Illinois, but currently live in Mississippi, and wanted my new universe to represent my favorite aspects of both (and every location in between). For team locations, (I don't have a map for this yet, it's more just in my head), Baseball City is an obviously fictional "dream-like" city, based off of St. Louis AND the MS River. The city has elements of Illinois, Missouri, and Mississippi. The teams all have suuuper generic names, which helps me not have to urge to change them. It's actually freeing in a way. My biggest problem when trying to create a fictional country, was again, having at least one city not feel right to me. Staying generic is boring, but definitely best for this chronic tinkerer. We have north, south, east, and west, and the downtown region is split between Old Town and City Central (to get to 6). To go with the 4 directions, is geographic terms loosely associated with the MS River, but also with rivers in general. For team nicknames, I made a list of old school minor league names that I liked, and realized that they're all descriptions of people. So, I gave my generic teams all names that their residents might be known for in this fictional city. We have: Old Town Villagers (the location of the first settlers who played "base ball") City Central Municipals (new town, where the mayor's *commissioner's* office is) North Ridge Highlanders (because the north has higher elevation? Don't love it but it doesn't feel "wrong", probably because Highlanders is such a timeless name) South Delta Ramblers (a rambler is someone who wonders the country side, like rural MS for example) West Bank Brewers (because someone in this city has to make the beer!) and my team - East Valley Lineriders (much like taking the metro from IL across the river to Busch Stadium, their citizens all ride the metro lines into the city) Teams play each other team in 4, three game series (60 total games), each series spread across one week. I made a custom schedule to have a game every night of the week, cause this is Baseball City after all. Every team plays at different times on Saturday, and a featured game is played on Sunday afternoons. With this setup, all the games can be played in just one stadium shared by the city, "Players' Field" (big help on not breaking immersion with the one generic OOTP stadium). The playoffs are three game series ladder style, with all 6 teams making it, so nobody's ever out of contention, but the regular season and seeding still matters a ton. I turned financials off to keep the game simple and further lean into the "dream-like" aspect of the save (I also do math all day for a living and don't want to use that part of my brain when I'm OOTPing). To start, players were created with MLB nationality percentages, and I've edited the setting for drafted players to have those percentages as well since there obviously can't be international free agents. With players from all over the world coming to Baseball City, my save has tons of Field of Dreams vibes So far, I've watched every game between AI teams, and managed all of mine. It's been addicting to watch the Municipals fend off the Villagers, and the whole city feels alive. I would like to make a dynasty report sometime, but don't think I can post consistently enough right now. So that's the world I created, Baseball City, where the beer is cold, and the 50k capacity stadium sells out 7 days a week! |

Similarly, I made a rival major league to the MLB during the 94 strike. It started as a 12 team league, with teams not allowed to use current MLB cities. I recreated some teams from the old PCL, Federal, and Continental leagues. It was divided into two subdivisions, West and East. It’s been fun seeing MLB players migrate to my league, with varying success. I find the most fun making custom logos and using the wonderful stadiums in the mid sections.

I think ptFri describes a common situation, that of spending tons of time conceiving the league and then building it complete with all the necessary detail only to begin to want something better, or more complete.
It's nice to get past the 'fun of building it' and actually see it play out in detail. We see some of those in this very thread. They are easy to find because the writers are very committed in their approach. They have what many want to experience in their own efforts. I think the French Baseball League (located in this thread) is my best effort for longevity. My wife and I visit french speaking Martinique frequently and have each been to Montreal and Paris once. We have a certain admiration for the French which led me to creating a league based on only French speaking areas. It was fun to research the cities, colleges and high schools, too. It allowed me to put in place a framework that was completely French, but at the same time, expansive beyond the borders of a single country. But, what really made this one stick (I'm in multiple on-line leagues) is the focus of a single player, Julien Henri. In the early versions much was written from his POV so it was not unlike a novel in that his personal life was interwoven with the career. Eventually, I gravitated away from the personal posts yet I think that was the best part of the project. We see multiple posts, and many very very good, but there are far fewer projects that get behind the personalities of the characters involved. Again, there are some in this thread and they are fun to read. Having Julien as my lead part of the project also gives me an end date. When Henri retires, so does the thread. It will be bitter sweet, just like our own lives, to watch Julien begin to lose his skills while his numbers begin to fade. Already, younger players are beginning to challenge Henri and his team. At the same time, it's fun to hope for a few swan songs as he approaches the end. Can he win another title? Will he outduel the stud 27 year old pitcher in a Game 7? When it's done I also have the option of flipping it to a novel. Wouldn't that be a fun project?

I've recently started playing with the idea of a two team, nine game season starting in the 1840's, inspired by a number of different ideas. This includes collegiate rivalries, including Oxford/Cambridge and Harvard/Yale, country clubs in various areas I've lived and their competitions, and even the season-long competition between two teams making up the entire population of where my family goes in the summers. Maybe I'll post about it in detail sometime.

That said, I have a world based on Game of Thrones (more so the book version than HBO/TV version). Had I had a major league with 56 teams; but, now I'm building a 3 tier relegation league with 96 total teams. The numerous fan sites provide some files for uniforms/logos/banners, and the team (Direwolves) & stadium names (Dreadfort) pick themselves |

I changed the #21 (Albanian) names to match the noble house names of westeros, and included common medieval professions (Baker, smith, hostler) as well as some more common region appropriate names (Rose, Winterly, Summers, Ironborn, Fingers, Kingswood). I use the nation of Bermuda for Westeros, and added cities and states (9). The most time consuming thing is modifying the birth city or last name after player creation/before the draft. I don't user minor leagues or DH. For the non-relegation league, I have 8 divisions of 7 teams (& took liberties moving some teams slightly between regions - especially the Iron Isles - I combined the Stormlands and Crownlands). I considered going with 7 Divisions, but, I didn't like the way the teams were breaking down/had trouble deciding who to cut in some cases. I'm finishing up the uniforms for the promotion/relegation version now (I had issues copying world file, and had to re-create). 3 Leagues (Premier Lords, High Lords, Lesser Bannermen). Each league has 8 divisions of 4 teams, for 96 total teams (again, combined Crownlands and Stormlands). Then I basically just use the Seats of Power/stronghold of the noble houses as cities, or a nearby river in some cases, and house ancestral swords/words or specific buildings/locations where I can for stadium names. Example (North Premier Lords: City/Nick Name/Stadium): Winterfell Direwolves - Ice Park Weeping Water Flayers - The Dreadfort White Harbor Mermen - Fishfoot Yard Barrowton Blades - Barrow Hall Example (Dorne Premier Lords): Sunspear Unbroken - The Old Palace Yronwood Guardians - South End Skyreach Blue Hawks - The Soaring Towers Starfall Pale Swords - Dawn Park |

I've created a fictional baseball league and re worked it several times over the last few years but I have had a writers block for most of the year so I have barely been active on the forums.

Nationalism vs Globalism in the 2030s
A "local", inward looking league was started in the rubble of the disintegrated MLB with teams in self-sustaining, American cities like Indianapolis, San Antonio, Buffalo, Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, Hartford, etc. Free agency doesn't come for 9 years, only Americans allowed, total free market as far as how teams earn money. A global league with teams in more international, outward looking cities like San Francisco, New York, LA, Miami, plus global cities like Toronto, Mexico City, London, etc. Players become free agents after 4 years, teams make roughly the same amount across the league, no nationality rules. Separate leagues but they play in the CL World Baseball League has tried to get Asian, European, British teams over the years but they've stayed apart: Asian Super League has gotten pretty strong, a Commonwealth League from mostly cricket-playing countries has started up and EuroLeague, while remains weak, has been playing for a while. |

Starting small here helped a lot and remaining focused on the USA portion helps, I always have to fight the balance of wanting to fully build out the world to Pacific islands and Wales and local leagues in Louisiana |

Earth with teams in Japan, Australia, USA & Mexico No interleague DH in both, many modern 2020 MLB rules in place.

I play a league set in an imaginary country I created before on a piece of paper. I imagined other sport leagues in this country but I have only simulated the baseball one.
It was fun to imagine all the cities and the logos. I also started with only 4 teams to better feel the growth of the league, now the league has 30 teams (I based the final structure on the MLB to be realistic). I tend to focus more on the history, so I have more of a spectator view. It was my first fictional world and I might want to start another one later on with different promotion/relegation leagues set accross the whole world and a global tournament with all the champions of all leagues.
