Animations
Since the last update this week, I have played 10 games out. Maybe it is a small sample size but the animations seems to be much smoother and more representative of actual baseball. Assuming it is not just a coincidence, I want to thank anyone and everyone that worked on this.

Agree, overall the animations in 21 are much better. However, there are still so many boundary issues that are being reported here , that I'm not seeing any traction on. I'd love it if there was a big push in this area to close these out.

Yeah, I agree; they’re much better so far. There’s still a ways to go - I saw, for example, what was called a rundown in the play by play but the animation just had the runner fall down while the fielders moved about weirdly - but it’s on good footing I think. Oh yeah, also, the game doesn’t know what to do with balks.

Agreed, they are better.
Still, I would like to see the actual player-models themselves and the stadiums get a an update in OOTP 22, in addition to the animations. -Cal |

To me the animations are ok. It's the syncing. Especially between outfield hits and base runners. The physical process of the animations is fine they are just completely out of sync.
The ball getting to the relay guy and watching the runners take 2 bases etc. I only play out a couple dozen games a season and notice it lot every game that I get a lot of hits in. If its low scoring you might not notice. If your hitting the hitting, base running, throwing are completely out of sync more often then not. If its an out sure it syncs up. But a double in the gap or a liner down the foul line. Completely out of sync. |

Sorry to hear this as this is the main reason I have not yet purchased 21. I hope to hear soon that this has improved.

You haven’t purchased 21 because the animations look better? You do you, I guess...

Only played three games so far.
Yes, the animation is better... smoother... fielders are smoother making the plays... foul balls might be more realistic in look...player movement has improved... relay throws seem to be improved... .. but still has a good way to go... a guy hit a double... the ball went through the right field wall like a ghost.... and the center fielder and right fielder... perhaps they were "ghost players up from minors"... ran through wall and were last seen chasing the ball way beyond the fence. I think Markus has finally perfected the "ghost player" code... these ghost players were the real McCoys. Come to think of it... as kids in the sandlot, most of the time we only had one ball to play with... it it went into the woods, we had to go get it... maybe OOTP only plays with one ball. We had it tough in the olden days... we couldn't walk through the fences to retrieve the ball... we had to go over the fence... or around the fence. Bottom LIne: I'm still going to really enjoy the animation in OOTP21... the game usually gets better with each version and each patch... I'm on version 18 or 19... still playin' it and lovin' it... and it's still getting better. Last edited by Eugene Church; 05-09-2020 at 10:33 AM. |

I'm talking about the synchronizations, not the animations.

Yeah, I agree that they feel altogether better than they did in 20. The only one I see semi-regularly that makes my hand rise to my face is when you get a situation where the player is so obviously meant to be out but the outfielder is making a mess of it, so the runner slows down so much that they'll invariably be out by half a step to compensate.
That being said I've always seen it as a 3D engine is a 'loose representation' of what is going on. A bit of imagination never hurt :] |

Well if that's the case, then I'd just go back to 2D. Quote:

I had to give up my beautiful 2D stadiums to use the 3D animation. I did it because, in my opinion, I enjoy the game much better than I did with the text play-by-play. One of these days, I hope I live that long, the animation will be perfected. Just made 80 this month... all I have left is today... and I will enjoy it... even if the ball goes through the fence... and the outfielders also run through the fence and chase the ball... and even if the players are not in perfect synch. OOTP21 is a marvelous creation and worth every bit of the $39.99 I paid for it... that is only 10 cents a day for great enjoyment. That is a humongous bargain, all y' all. |
