Why is AIM so popular with ootp users? I have _never_ seen an online community before this one that AIM is the default messaging system.

Really? I've never seen an online community that used another messaging system, outside of the MLEB (DreamTeams' BBPro League), and that was before AIM.

If you read about AIM some more, you'll find that it's starting to be used widely in the business world...it's gotta a lot of press in that regard, so much so that AOL is looking at making money off of it to save their company.

All 30 teams in my league have aim. Just seems to be more accesible and easier for most people to use.

thats funny, almost everyone I know uses AIM over yahoo or ICQ or even MSN, though I like MSN just don't know anyone who uses it.

I agree almost everyone I know uses AIM...

Of course my Fantasy Football League uses Yahoo.

Personally I like MSN but don't know a single person that uses it. Shame really...

Oh, UCONNROX11 for me. I absolutely abhor Yahoo, and haven't really gotten into MSN.

The only reason I ever use Yahoo is for my yearly (I hate being on the other side of the country from my league) draft or if i'm looking for someone in particular.

Yahoo is terrible...

Well I've witnessed the rise and fall of many instant messengers, tried them all, changed preferences a few times, but I've never preferred AIM. ICQ was the best in the early days, but got too bloated. Then Yahoo and MSN caught up and were pretty good overall, while AIM somehow got the most members. And then there were all the ones that had potential, but never quite took off (Odigo probably the best of these). Now most people I know use Trillian (what I use now, and love), Yahoo, or MSN. AIM has just always seemed inferior to me. I guess I'm just not seeing that something in it that others are.

Bah... I already have a couple people in my league's that make me crings every time I log into AIM... last thing I need is for all of you people having a direct line of communication with me.
