Is This Guy A HOFer?
Jesus Burgos dominated the mid 60's like no other SP.
1962 ROTY 1964 AA Mike Christian Award 1966 MCA 1967 MCA 1969 MCA 7 time All Star 1970 World Champ. I dont think I have anyone who won this many awards not in the HOF who played 10 seasons. Missed 1968 with an arm injury, oft injured So should he go in? He compares to Sandy Koufax in some ways. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...oufasa01.shtml

i voted no. he did have 6 great seasons. i dont think a comparison to koufax is fair, because koufax retired while still a top player. i think the fact that jesus continued 2 play long after his prime really hurys his case. if he would have retired earlier due to injury, i would have voted yes because we would have been left wondering and predicting what his numbers would have looked like. since he remained pitching as a shell of himself, we can not just over look the 2nd half of his career. i think a better comparison would b to tim lincecum n ryan howard. both had 5-6 year runs of dominance but due to injury, the 2nd halves of theor careers have been terrible. neither one of those players sniff the hall of fame. in my opinion jesus burgos does not belong in the hall

If he quit after 1970 he probably would have, since he would essentially have been Sandy Koufax.

Not everyone in the Hall has to be a slam dunk first ballot Hall of Famer. There has to be a line somewhere and we'll always have to ask and think about the guys on that line.

I don't see why I'd want to discount him for trying to play for a few years instead of just hanging it up, so he gets my vote. Yeah, it's a short career, but it's a *really* good short career.

I vote yes, since he was so dominant for 5-6 seasons, but he's more of a third- or fourth-balloter than a first-balloter, IMO.

I'll probably not vote for him in year 1, depends on who else is on the ballot. Here are some of the MCA winners of the 1960's. Bisuet will probably be a HOFer.

looks like a hof to me... it's not his fault the team turned him into a reliever. either his ratings fell off a cliff, or he was a victim of circumstance of the game AI.
it's got to be relative to your league, though. e.g. i try to get the top 10% of players in the HoF. i let how the league plays out determine that line in the sand. his ERA+ is in the 150's, so i'd say he is safely in the top echelon of the league. |

after looking at his place in ur worlds baseball history, i change my vote. this guy is a sure fire hall of famer. hes a no doubt about it guy. showing us the career leaderboards really shines a new light on the vote. i will even go as far as saying if he wasnt injured he would have arguably been the greatest pitcher in ur world. with that said, i still put him top 3 or 5 ever in ur leagues history... previously i was looking at him relative to the mlb

A 155 ERA+ as a starting pitcher? Um yes, even though it's a very short career. He averaged 9.95 WAR over a six year span during which he led his league in WAR every year. That is pure domination.
