3D is just awesome

It's just awesome... like totally awesome... did I mention it's AWESOME!! It adds so much to the game.

And the surprising thing about it is: it allows you to see how RIGHT OOTP gets it. As in, when that runner scores from second, you see how and why... No more of that, "Hey, this game is fixed"

Heck, you don't even need the pbp box anymore. You could close it and fill up the screen space with other game info. All you would need is a small box to tell you what the last play was.

I can't wait for:

- When the pawns become realistic looking animated players
- When we get a bunch of classic stadiums (please?!)
- When we get a bunch of fictional stadiums (pretty please?!)

hearing about how the player slid into second, but his uniform didn't get dirty. Bug!

Seriously, though, you're right. Great addition with a point of view.

Hey, maybe we could get some smaller pawns to represent all the player's kids that hang out in the clubhouse...

Does the 3D engine show what zones the balls go to? Because I swear, the one game I did play, the animation for all ground balls to short were the same. It seems neat but it also seems a bit like MicroLeague Baseball, where after you play with the graphics on a few times you know from the first second what's going to happen on the play and you just want to get things over with.

Overall though it is a nice add. I still feel like the *true* future of baseball sims if not OOTP is physics-based.

I've been working on the 3D for a while now. And while on some plays I know what's going to happen based on how everyone moves, they still definitely surprise me at times.

And everything with the 3D is generated dynamically, even taking into account player speed/defense. So despite the fact that our inputs to 2 plays may be literally identical (even down to the random number we choose within a zone to make the play), if you have a great defensive SS, he may actually make it to the ball earlier than a crappy defensive guy.

Bravo, Matt. One day I would love to hear all about how you guys actually pull it off. I think it's so cool.

Love the 3D. Interestingly I have the "Pitch Locations" box on and most of the time the ball is batted in the proper direction where the pitch was located.

I have the full text on, it describes the play after the animation but it explains what actually took place, sometimes just the animation doesn't explain what actually took place. It's fun, that's the only way I've been playing since I started with OOTP 17. I started a career league with the 1991 Jays:

Well, I just want to say I'm FINALLY going to purchase my first OOTP baseball sim, since Microleague Baseball. Yes, I have certainly aged myself (I'm 43). And one of the reasons (not the main reason obviously) is that the wonderful developers have implemented the 3D model. I think it's definitely going to bring a greater immersion to this game. Looking forward to playing tomorrow.

You'll certainly enjoy it. For a version 1.0 feature it is doing a nice job. Just imagine what kind of fancy stuff we'll be able to do with it in the future

I'm definitely looking forward to the small incremental improvements in the future. It doesn't even have be that dramatic of a shift in the way game looks or plays. Small additions to the pawn or sprites will go a long way. Thanks for listening to your fans.

The 3D was a big factor in me getting OOTP 17 as my first baseball sim game...I'm loving how cool it feels and how I get so into the games I play. Great job guys...looking at the game and so much detail, stats, and data into every single little thing you can think of about baseball boggles my mind how you guys came up with all of this.

When I first heard about this nifty new feature. I thought "Meh, not really my cup of tea." But like a cow staring at an oncoming train it hit me hard.
Because of this (amongst others) feature I've played out more games than in the previous 2 versions. It's a real game-changer.

Well, to be honest, about 4 weeks ago this feature was still, well, not ready for prime-time. But Matt and Jorin worked their butts off, and now it is in very good shape, and I have to agree with you guys, it adds a whole new dimension to the game. I am so happy you enjoy it!

I'm sure I've missed it, someone linked a non-working video in the other thread...but, I'd still love to see video of 3D in action!

Question, someone was mentioning you could have it set to autoplay, like letting your manager handle it like you would in sim mode, except it shows you the full game. How exactly do I do this? I'm playing a GM game and it would be great to be able to do it that way, have the game always going as I do other things.

If you let the AI handle all of the actions, and then un-check the "pause after play" button, the game will simply run in the background, kind of like a real-time sim mode.

One cool thing I saw was the pawns throwing the ball "around the horn" after a strikeout.
