Favorite Historic Team
I was wondering what some of your favorite historic teams are and what ones you grew up watching? I loved the 90s and early 2000's Braves.. thanks to TBS(Mr.Turner) lol.. I got to watch them every day. What about you guys?

Cincinnati's Big Red Machine, especially the '75-76 champs.
Pittsburgh Lumber Company of the '70s and the '79 champs. '86 Mets and '86 Astros, even with the heartbreak that came with that NLCS. In general, I love '70s/80s baseball and spent 75-80 percent of my time playing OOTP in that era. |

My heart will always belong to the Bronx Zoo Yankees of 1977-78. I was 8-9 years old respectively during those years and that's when I fell in love with baseball for life, and, of course, the Yankees.

Having a ton of fun playing with the 1909 Chicago Cubs. The double-play combination of Tinker to Evers to Chance, and Mordecai "Three-Finger" Brown have been solid for me so far.

I'm an old guy, so I loved the 1964 Phillies, and to this day, Johnny Callison is one of my all time favorite players. I can still remember sitting at my grandfathers house at the age of 9, and watching the all star game on his black & white TV, and Callison hits a walk off home run against Dick Radatz to win the game. Sadly, that's the same team that had a huge lead going into the last two weeks and faded, finishing a game behind the Cardinals.
I also of course, liked the 1980 team that won the World Series, and quite frankly, never thought they'd win again, but they did in 2008. The NLCS in 1980 against the Astros was one for the ages! |

Astro Fan
Grew up watching the Astros, I still can't explain how devastating the move to the AL was for me. I truly despise the DH, unfortunately I'm old enough to remember when both leagues were DH-less. Still an Astros guy though. Anyways, my favorite team was the 1979 Astros with big J.R. Richard tossing triple digits past batters. My hero was Terry Puhl (OF) who was better than most people remember.

The Yankees of the 90's (They made baseball feel important, exciting. I loved their domination and the way everyone hated them)
1998 Cardinals - Big Mac was my hero as a 10 year old boy. 1992 Pirates - The last year we had Bonds

It seems sick and wrong that the 2001 Mariners are a historical team now, but that's my choice. There's a Breaking OOTP out there that replaces all the players on the current team with super-powered characters from Super Mario (because the M's are owned by Nintendo) and they *still* finished a game worse than the actual 2001 team.

1991 Twins. That World Series was seriously thrilling.
'65 Twins were dope as well, what's not to love about Harmon Killebrew?

1994 Expos... real minor leagues are a great addition especially for this season as they include players who likely would have been called up if there wasn't a strike.
Or for OOTP nostalgia, I can pick the 2001 version of the team... with the same real prospects (and busts) as in OOTP3, the first version I bought. Last edited by Hoiles; 03-19-2016 at 12:46 PM. |

The year was 1989 and I was a 12 year old boy living in central Michigan. We had cable TV and WGN was a channel we got. I remember was the Cubs that season and fell in love with that great team. What a heartbreak it was to watch them go down in the first round of the playoffs that fall.
