Goodbye Yogi Berra

MLBTV is reporting the passing of Yogi Berra at the age of 90. While I am not a Yankee fan (rather a Mets fan, but we can come together at a time like this) I am a huge Yogi fan and will miss him. There is so much this man has done for not only the sport of baseball but humanity as well and is best known for his "Yogi-isms". There is so much more to say about him, but that is best left for you to research or listen to the experts rather than to me. One of Yogi's many quotes - "Always go to other peoples funerals, otherwise they won't come to yours." Don't worry Yogi, you will have many many loving and adoring people to see you off to that great big stadium in the sky. We will miss you here.

My best memory of Berra is that B&W clip of Jackie Robinson stealing home in the 1955 WS. It looks like Berra got him and he is really Po'd

I never got to see him play; or manage really. But he still affected the game I love, he will be missed.

Just a few days ago I was thinking about him and wondered if he was the oldest living baseball player. He was up there, but not in the top 50.

Sad. I always thought he was one of the most likable old-timers, if not the most well-liked.

RIP Yogi. It's hard to feel 'sad' about anyone's death when they're 90 years old, but it does give us a chance to remember them.

Yeah, but this:

Let's assume that he had a happy home and a loving family. If so, given what we otherwise know of his life, what better way to have spent 90 years on Earth?

Except maybe when he was managing for George Steinbrenner . . .

Good ol' Yogi. One of the greatest icons from one of baseball's greatest eras, post-WWII to early 1960s. So few great pre-1950 players are still left on this mortal coil.

"Always go to other people's funerals, otherwise they won't come to yours."

If all those people whose funerals he showed up at could show up at his, I'm sure they would. A great human being, from nearly all accounts. He lived a very full life.

I guess the Heavenly Professional Baseball League needed a catcher. R.I.P. Yogi.
